Rainbow Six: Siege |OT| Idris Elba sold separately

I have a few questions

1. I'm west coast and I usually have around 40 ping. I've only ever seen a few less than 40, and most are usually 80. Am I lucking out with low ping a majority of the time?

2. Why would someone pick a 24 inch monitor over a 27 for competitive fps

3. Why do people fake a russian accent most of the time?

4. Which are the best guns? I really like the thatcher's gun, the L8, is this a DMR? Is there an easy way to look up the various weapons?

You can toggle the firing mode of most guns to be semi-auto but there's only a couple real DMRs. Buck, Blackbeard, and Twitch have them. Glaz has the sniper rifle for this game. Best way to look them up is just an online search. There's probably a rainbow six wiki.

You'd think having a low ping was good thing. Until you come up against a team of players from another continent with 4x your ping. Then you'll understand the true meaning of hell.

I'm just getting this game. It's definitely intimidating playing against others who have a good amount of map knowledge, but I'm determined to get better at this game.

I bought it at launch and then jumped into it much later. It's a great time! Once you learn about the maps and the operators, it gets to be s really good time!

I really don't get on with Bartlett U.

Me too. The map feels like house to me. Too many angles to look out for. Sound propagation makes it impossible to tell where enemies are coming from. Plus I don't like the visual art design anywhere near as much as I did Skyscraper.

I love House, it might be my favourite map at night. I don't know what it is about Bartlett U. - Maybe it's overly-challenging for me? I just feel like there's no proper defense for some rooms or attacking always feels sort of blind. Yeah, the sound doesn't help either, lots of nooks and crannies near staircases.

It's not well designed, no. I don't really know why I don't like it, it just has poor flow; but it's probably the weakest map for me so far.

Conversely, I don't get why so many people I play with hate Favela. I like the verticality of that map.

I mean, the verticality is all well and good, but damn defending on that map is a nightmare.
Certain spots are just a hellhole where you can get swarmed from 3 sides while you only have 1 way to move in and out of rooms.

I bought this game at launch but really couldn't get into it

Then I found this topic and I watch plenty of youtube videos.

The siege reddit is fun for a laugh or 2

Yeah I guess a tonnnn of people found ways to unlock any and all DLC without grinding or working for it. I had a good laugh the other night as names just started popping up from BattleEye

My group is so frustrated with defending on Favelas that we no longer call the rooms by their names. Instead, it's either, "Yellow Murderbox", "Red Murderbox", or "Green Murderbox". It's not impossible to win as a defender, but I feel like it has to be the toughest map for defense.

Rook, Sledge, Kapkan, Fuze are all really good beginning operators I think.

Just work on learning the maps (where the stairs are to get to each level, where cameras are and where objectives usually are) that is the biggest hurdle between new players and experienced ones.

Also, unlock a grip on the guns you want to use right away and watch the training videos if you havent already (free rep).

Learn the maps, situations is a good primer on skills. Use peek, and master angles- very important to gameplay.

Best beginner operators for attackers would be Sledge or Thatcher imo (use his EMP grenades when you see barricaded walls). Defenders would be Rook or Kapkan (put his traps at different levels on doors/windows).

I see those have already been mentioned, so there's a consensus for a reason lol

Ew why would someone want to remind everyone of the first Watch_Dogs?

Thank you for the tips guys, I have already unlocked Sledge, Ash, Rook and Kapkan and I'm feeling quite comfortable with Sledge and Kapkan atm

I'm on the same boat, bought the game last week and yeah, I suck, but it's so fucking good that I'm really determined to invest a ton on hours to git gud. I still have to learn most of the maps, but I'm feeling some progress after only 15-20 MP games, also managed to win some 1v2, 1v3 situations

The tension when you are the last man standing is fucking real man

Barbed wire is the key to a good defence on favelas

Map knowledge just takes time and experience; different operators present different opportunities.

You can play solo games of terrorist hunt to gain map familiarity, test weapons and operators. Certain YouTube channels like Prodigio Pete have plenty of little tips that can help you.

In many ways though the most important thing is the "meta" game, the common strategies of the playerbase in other words. This can be basic, like the most popular rooms for defenders on maps and where you can expect to find them, to more complex things like the Bandit vs Thatcher/Thermite thing where Bandit will wait for an EMP grenade to go off before planting his gadget to block a Thermite charge.

This sort of thing just takes time in Ranked matches to learn.

Indeed high ping destroys me from 200 nd possibly higher. I definitely feel I get shot really quickly even when I know when they are coming and they don't know.

Also seems my shots don't register, same for thrown nades.

Even when I get lucky nd it says 80 it can be as bad or worse. Not sure what's up with this game and the net coding. My connection does kick me out here and there though.

I think like good murder holes and a very good knowledge of which window watches what side is even more vital there.
The issue is that there are too many entry pathways a lot of times, so barbed wire can be a bit of a cointoss in certain objective spots.

There is some truth to high ping advantages, but it applies in particular situations, like peeking. Most of the time, you're getting screwed over because of the shit latency. I would know because it's the bullshit I have to deal with. My latency is usually at 80-100 but r6 never connects me with less than 160 ping.

That's a fair enough point; I think that's what I like about it personally, but I won't argue that it seems slated for the attackers compared to other maps. Then again, I think it's a map made for roamers/traps, which many do not do. Also the rooms tend to have a ton of walls to reinforce, and I noticed that it's a killer on that map more than any other when someone fails to reinforce.

There will come a day very soon where you will pull off your first 1v4 or 1v5 win. Feels good. Also I think winning 1 v 5 happens more as an attacker because defense teams seem to get cocky and rush when they really shouldn't.

I just pulled a draw the other day because the enemy team decided that since they were 5v1 they were going to rush me outside. I had the height advantage and downed two, mopped up two more inside, then my claymore took out the last guy right as he killed me. Not what I was going for but it'll do.

And knowing that some people rage at the silliness in their tactical shooter makes me that much more likely to buy the next ones.

Without fail, every time I get up to about Gold 3 or 4, the entire enemy team has 130-170 ping while we are sitting at 80.

Had a match on the plane map where it was 1v5, all my teammates being dead and the enemy planted the defuser in the cargo hold. I catch 2 of them by surprise with my semi-auto shotgun. I then find the other 3 and the defuser. Montagne blocks me at the door entrance so I can't enter the room, while his teammates take potshots at me while trying to not hit him. I have the luxury to be reckless with my shots and kill both of them. There is only Montagne and me, staring at each other face-to-face, until time runs out and we lose :(

Problem in this game is the tick rate being 64 instead of the 128 that is CS. I'm guessing if they did that the game would be much less forgiving with ping and it would match you with really low pings, however, matchmaking times would increase substantially.

I'd like to see them increase the tick rate when next season starts. Wouldn't surprise me if some big changes come then.

He's so good now that he's really the only shield operator worth using imo.

Talking about shield operators, what do you guys think about Blitz? Bought it yesterday because I really like the idea of that shield + stun, but I'm having a rough time with him. Any tips?

My tip is to not use him. He's pretty broken. Montagne is a great alternative.

I'm not sure how far that blind even goes. I flashed someone at close range and the killcam didn't show him affected and he proceeded to kill me. Montagne, on the other hand, is soooo good. One of my favs. Playing him with a well-coordinated team is very satisfying.

He's useful in such extremely limited situations. The problem with Blitz is that his ability requires close range for maximum effectiveness, but he's far easier to kill because of his high speed/low armor, and relatively poor shield covering- especially at close range.

The only time I've seen him used recently was in the airplane; and he got me, because I wasn't looking as he came down a narrow hallway in the luggage hold, basically leaving me blinded and with nowhere to go. Every other time I've killed him before he became a problem.

I'd have to check the patch notes, but I think they nerfed his flash radius since launch because next to no one uses him now. If you use him, I would say sneak with him to flank enemies (but then you have to be careful not to flash your own team), or use him to taunt people into coming to you around a corner or something, then blind them. Even then though, they usually just start shooting blindly and can still score a kill on you.

killcams usually don't show the full effect (or any at all) of status, with flashbangs or Yokai disorientation. I got a final kill while 100% affected by Yokai, and the replay showed no distortion at all.

Well I'm definitely terrible at this game. Spent most of a round in that biker bar place trying to find a way to get downstairs that wasn't the deathtrap stairwell everyone else died at, but I ended up going in a giant circle and time ran out. Then I chucked a Smoke bomb at the hostage in the following round and downed them while trying to save my team from windowpeople...
except the attackers revived the hostage and escaped with them anyway, for whatever reason
. Is there really no better way to familiarize yourself with map layouts than just playing the multiplayer?

There's an app (not Ubisoft made) that allows you to look at detailed map breakdowns and I think it was updated with tips for gadget usage too. I don't use it myself and don't know what it's called but a friend I play with swears by it.

You can set up a custom game and just pick the map you want and can play by yourself and explore. Or terrorist hunts.

Thank you for the info, I will give him another chance but yeah, that flash only seems to work at really close range.

So the other shield alternative is Montagne. Is he useful as well playing solo or only really worthy in a coordinated team?

He's a team player. You have to trust your teammates won't shoot you in the back though; he's great when paired with Blackbeard because of his ability to peek around Montagne with his mounted shield. He's great at blocking objective doors or in general being a good harass/distraction though, and most players can shoot around him well enough. If it's Montagne vs 3 or 4 enemies though, his chances are slim unless it's a really good player.

Yup, most of the shield guys need teammates to back them up. Referring to your other posts I hate how the effects don't show up in killcams. It makes it super hard to figure out if it was dumb luck that they got you or they just weren't blinded/distorted. Getting hit by multiple yaokai blasts sucks. I found Montagne to be super good with a revolver if you can get hits. The problem is reloading. I think the shield guys need a little buff and I'd like a new shield person in the DLC.

Ah, I thought you needed at least one other person for the custom games. Thanks, that should help give me a better idea of what's located where in-game.

Doing it with at least one other person is best IMO, it helps you figure out what room is above or below what other room, and what angles can see into what area, etc.

It helps so you can just ask each other "can you see me here?, how about here? etc." Gives you a better sense of the flow of each map.

Also be sure to turn on the time limit to the max so you have plenty of time to explore.

Montagne is not really a solo character. Works really well with a team. You can use him as a flank while your team is attacking the same room/objective, though. You can shield up and apply pressure at an entrance or breach, while the teammates attack from a different but nearby approach. If the enemy shoots at you or is distracted, your teammates can take advantage of that. If they ignore you and focus on your teammates, you can pistol them up.

I remember a fun match I had as Montagne in the plane map. The enemy was bunkered up in the conference room. I was the first one to approach the door (but not entering), drawing fire my way. Meanwhile, my team was entrenched along the corridor and trading shots with the conference room via holes in the wall. Meanwhile, I moved forward along the corridor and isolate a lone enemy in the back room. He is trapped and can't get past me. So I shift my attention btw that lone player (making sure he remained trapped and unable to threaten the corridor) and the ones in the conference (applying pressure on them as well and allowing my teammates to get opportunity shots). We managed to wipe out the conference room, while the lone player yolo'ed and got himself killed. It was a lot of fun.

Yeah Montagne is like a full-sized Twitch drone- good for a variety of purposes, but can be clutch helpful to distract the enemy while others assault. It's amazing how many people freak out when he comes at them shield full; the fact that they dropped instant kill explosives against shields just cements that further.

I made a ps4 community for neogaf members on ps4. Just search for siege neogaf, it might be useful i dunno. Just dont mind the background it is the best picture i got xD

I decided to get back into this after almost a year and I fucking suck. I was never godly at the game but I could hold my own and actually be useful.

Uh, not anymore. I even feel like I'm back in the swing of it getting used to the sensitivity and movement and buttons, etc. but for some reason I'm just getting absolutely dominated. I'll unload on someone and it either takes forever to kill them or they kill me first even though I shot first. Seems like the hitbox is off or the TTK has been upped? I have no idea why I can't win 1 on 1s when I get the jump on them.

I'd say 99% of my deaths though are from people I can't fucking see for the life of me. I'll even record some of these deaths and go back and watch, stand an inch from my screen and squint and I still can't make them out. No idea where they actually were. I don't know what happened to me but I've completely lost what little touch I had in this game. Tonight I played two games with randoms and didn't get a single kill. I'm having zero fun returning to this.

They changed some of the attachments btw. If you used muzzle brakes they now reduce single shot recoil instead of a balance between the flash hider and compensator. I was getting dumped on, couldn't figure out why I was shooting so wildly all of a sudden.

Last night I got blown up by a Fuze grenade through a reinforced wall. That was a tilter for sure.

Yeah, I didn't even notice they changed the muzzle breaks until last week; doing much better now lol.

Also, yes, I killed a teammate with Fuze that exact same way the other day. I like that they gave Fuze a third charge, but they need to do something about how damage radius works out because it's absurd right now.

I was in a relatively small room last night that got Fuzed twice- no damage at all. Other times, I'm on the opposite side of a large room behind cover and I die. Why. I Fuze a room and end up killing my buddy in the hall, but missed 3 guys in the room. Wat.

Yeah it's very inconsistent. My friend was downed in a room getting Fuzed. I was watching, grenades bouncing all over but they survived two Fuze charges until the Doc came. It was hilarious to watch from afar. Grenades bouncing like in her face and stuff.
