Random thoughts.

You know that song by StainD called "So Far Away"? That song was released when I was in high school. It was good, but wasn't anything I'd listen to all the time. Fast forward like 20 years and what I know about the people I went to school with. Some died too young, one girl developed breast cancer, one had a stroke and most recently heart failure, one guy is in federal prison and another is going through life's ups and downs as a single parent with anxiety attacks. That song starts playing over and over again in my mind as I reflect upon the past and how carefree everyone was. Did I reach out? Yes. Did I offer some support? Yes, meals for them while recovering. Why? Those people helped define my youth. Some I cared for as a crush and others were just easier to get ahold of thanks to technology. I reflect on this now and wonder if this was a way to say goodbye to my youth. I'm not hanging out or talking to these people on the regular. I wouldn't want to go back to that time, but I think a part of those people will always live inside me. Maybe as a spirit of caring or having a heart.

It's definitely not the first time either pretty much every day in the Napoleonic mod for Mount and Blade there's people preaching about the Bible and Jesus.
Doesn't really matter what game sometimes you just get these random people who think they're some great intellectuals because they have memorized Bible verses and numbers who are trying to convert people in game chat and they're always the most judgemental and smug assholes imaginable too.
If you want to convert people going into a random Halo game with a lewd name and start calling people sinners and rant about how your father is a devil etc while quoting Bible verses has to be the most bizarre nonsensical way ever to do it.
If anything it makes people less likely to convert and more judgemental towards Christians.

That's one of the reasons me and a dude from my teenage years aren't friends to this day. He'd spend like 9 hours a day playing, but say JC and he'd go all Southern Baptist minister on you. What's weird is we talked about RE2 Remake like a few years ago. I think we had too different viewpoints to stay close friends.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could instruct your phone -- the one you paid for -- to do the things it was made to do without your private information being sold. Or in the alternative, we could get paid for that sharing of information from the device(s) we paid for. You know, with our hard-earned money.

Data collection is part of the ecosystem and it's spelled out in the terms people agree to

You don't just buy hardware, you're opting into a whole service infrastructure

Answer to that is legislation but the US for whatever reason is allergic to legislation and holding tech companies accountable.

Controversial take but most of them are if you ignore opinion pieces and takes.
Most people you hear complain about '' the media™ '' at least don't want impartial news they want someone to regurgitate what they already believe there's a reason why it's mostly people on the far left or far right ( far right includes MAGA... ) who complain about it the most.

US media is definitely quite wacky in general but I don't think it's super hard to distinguish between opinions and just basic factual news.
You gotta be more vigilant about it I guess with American media.
And also this whole idea that '' independent '' news is less biased is total horseshit they're far more audience captured and tend to be way more dogmatic and unhinged.

Probably the best imo that comes to mind is David Pakman.
He's still opinionated too but I don't think he ever really represents the actual facts or lies.
Most actual journalists won't tho because they don't want their network to be held accountable if they outright lie, when it comes to independent news outlets tho they have no such issues and can just lie freely.
David does a good job tho and actually seems to care about actual journalism.

A lot of people will point to news outlets having gotten something wrong too and being held accountable as evidence that they're partial and untrustworthy but that's not really true.
An untrustworthy outlet is one that never holds themselves accountable or admit they're wrong about anything.
Admitting you're wrong when you're wrong is a good thing.
But a lot of people view that as some gotcha and proof that they can't be trusted.

It's like how some people rant endlessly about corruption in Ukraine but never say a word about Russia, Ukraine uncovering and holding itself accountable for corruption in its government is a good thing and what a normal country should do.
There's corruption in every country ultimately, an actually corrupt country that is corrupt to a truly problematic level is a country that never holds itself and its corrupt politicians accountable.
The fact Russia basically never has corruption scandals is because it is THAT corrupt, not because there is no corruption.
 
How is it that the washing machine my parents bought when I was an infant lasted until my sophomore year of college without a single issue but the brand new washer I bought in summer of 2024 has already died after 18 months???

I am so sick of planned obsolescence and cheaply made crap. I have an extended warranty through 2027, now I get to fight to get them to honor it. 😡

another dream i had last night:

i'm at work. new girl called Rachel. we get together. not really the point but it happens. I don't know anyone called Rachel. entire dream changes and we're inside a real life RPG. we're in a forest and my stats are high enough to instantly detect an enemy who is standing in plain sight (i know it doesn't make sense) wearing a full knight armor. Rachel is super impressed by my detection skills even though they are really shit.

said knight slams me to the ground and all i can see are the trees and between the trees are huge eyes staring at me. the knight turns into a huge ass troll/monster thing with fat legs and pins me to the ground. i keep shouting HELP and Rachel keeps shouting I'M NOT HELPING YOU. i can feel myself about to die. game over.

i'm now in my old house (when i was a child). my mum and dad are there. they are arguing with each other over something. they stop talking. i keep staring at my dad waiting for him to talk to me but he never looks at me. IRL he's dead so i think "dad you need to speak to me!" but i realise he won't talk to me. he won't even look at me. I realise that it's only a matter of time before he's dead "again". I am desperately wanting him to acknowledge me.

his house that i'm in feels like a trap. it's the top floor of a very tall building. the only way out is by sticking my finger in a plug socket to electrocute myself :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Have a 2025 vehicle and already had to replace the windshield in November from a rock.... Well today ANOTHER rock cracked it on the freeway. Had to pay $120 to get it repaired but it shouldn't spread. So freaking ridiculous

US leftist will tell you they are all reliable (except magically FOX) and it's a fantasy by people who think the media is bias. Meh. These same people will usually say they aren't "liberal" they are "independent". It's the #1 thing the people protesting every weekend will say. Lol.

US right wingers will tell you they are all bias, acknowledging even fox has biases (this is the most accurate take between the 2).

The truth is a bit more nuanced though and somewhere in the middle... especially if you are reaching for broader scopes outside of ONLY US politics...

  • FOX does incredible live event / breaking news coverage
  • CNN did an impeccable job with the debate they hosted in the last election
  • MSNBC...
  • ABC has done some really good world news coverage, and even domestic political coverage in the past
  • CBS has shown an ability to do very competent news stories, but has been muddied with some notable scandals over the years


The truth however is that very few (if any) have no slant. Something like GROUNDED which shows you how both sides are reporting the same thing and how bias the source is and where they fall on impartiality is the best way to go. Personally, when I see / read something at one news source, I Google it and read a few different ones, and then match up to statistics / data / police reports / government releases / whatever hard data I can get too. Granted, I was a top debater in my University, so it is something I probably do that is a bit overboard because the info is seldom worth the time spent reading as an adult (LOL).

As someone else pointed out, just follow the money. It isn't some crazy hard thing to find, you will see which party they favor pretty easily that way.

Jim Carrey's transformation is strange. Wouldn't have thought he'd be one to get cosmetic surgery so I'm not sure what's happening there. Doesn't seem to be natural aging, weight gain, or even lack of makeup/beautification making him look so different, so what's going on?

I lucid dreamt one time, and I'm so boring all I did was float around in the room I was sleeping in, look over at my sleeping body in the bed and go, "huh, so I'm dreaming?"

The type of Christians who try to brow-beat nonbelievers into converting...how many times has that ever worked? In contrast, I've never met a Mormon who tried to shame someone into converting; every one I met has been one of the nicest people on earth. That's probably a better way to win someone over.

I got lots of plastic surgeries after accidents but he just looks as an happy lesbian, which is rare by itself.

I was sure it was his female look-alike, because damn ...he looks like shit. Hardly recognise him.

Plastic surgery, fillers/lifts - out of vanity, almost always makes you look WAY worse after a handful of years. For both genders. I get it when there's a real physical quality of life involved or accidents. But most of Hollywood seems to be allergic to aging with grace. It's so sad and pathetic.

Yeah, you might fool some people to think you under 50 for another 5-10 years...but then suddenly one day you look like you've had several strokes and your skin is made out of playdough ...mixed with a creepy doll.

it wasn't too dusty so didn't take the full thing apart. couldn't be bothered puting new thermal paste on either but doesn't need it.

also updated my BIOS.

feels good. thought about a clean install of Windows but too much trouble.

it's sad to see Jim fuck his face up like that. it's what made him famous. it's like Ronaldo or Messi cutting off a foot.

but then he is some what retired and doesn't owe anyone shit. i love the guy and his movies are classics. they got me through so many difficult times. i wish him all the best and wouldn't dare to make fun of him. i just hope he's happy and at peace with himself.
