Rayman Origins Gamescom trailer and gameplay

The 3DS version is from the same team that did Rabbids 3D, IIRC, so not terribly optimistic.

If it runs at 60fps and has no compromises other than a few missing graphical eLements here and there, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

:( Please don't mess this up....

Only the console versions are done by Ubisoft Montpellier.

Is the 3DS version the same as the console versions? Might have to eventually double dip on 3DS and PS3 in any event.
I don't think we know. There aren't solid details on either of the handheld versions.

Why shouldn't they? Doesn't look to resource heavy for modern tech. Even the 3DS should be able to get a 1:1 conversion at it's native res.

Ugh. If it's the same with the Vita version, then I'll definitely just stick to it on the PS3.

Why? The Raving Rabbits for the 3DS is a completely original game, not a port of any kind.
Making a bad game is one thing, porting a game to a platform which should have little trouble with it another.
edit: Man, that thing even looked bad

I'm already on the fence about buying a handheld version due to not being able to play multiplayer with my family. It being handled by a mediocre developer is just enough to push me over.

strong view this is gonna be a killer app for the 3DS, 3D should look great.

Do you mean on a personal level? Sure, it's your call anyway.

For consumers at large? That's a definite no. The game comes out on many platforms (including one with a strong focus on platformers), and Rayman as a series has yet to prove a killer app for any system. And if 3D has any appeal, a 2D game won't sell it. That's like saying that parallax scrolling was a killer app back in the day.

When I got to play this at E3 it was basically some of the most fun I had on the show floor. If this game doesn't sell like mad something is horribly wrong. This game is pure fun.

Good lord, that art looks so pretty. Day 1.

Question, though: are the handheld releases and console releases identical to each other? Or do the handheld releases differ from the console versions?

It feels like the exact complement to New Super Mario Bros Wii to me. NSMBWii was all about precise platforming and skill testing, and to that end the very clean graphical style never ever left you in any doubt as to the exact level layout and the solidity of various walls, with levels built out of clean straight lines and angles.

In contrast this feels like its going to be less of a pure raw test of skill and more of an experience. It may be harder to tell whats solid and whats not with this graphical style, but it looks artistically gorgeous. Not saying that its not going to be challenging or anything, but it feels looser.

I think both types are absolutely awesome, btw.

What the fuck.

The art is incredible but the smooth framerate sells it, the animation is so fluid. I'll be buying the PS3 version at the earliest opportunity.

This game is so beautiful.

Do I buy PS3, 360, 3DS, or Vita versions?! I'll probably buy PS3, and Vita with some hope of transfarring magic or something.

Yes I'd like to know this too.

Getting this on Vita, regardless of any HD version, I want to play this wherever I want. :) it's a plus if Vita, and PS3 versions are compatible.

This game looks absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, I won't have the budget to get it this year. If the game turns up good on Vita, with no compromises, then that's the one I'm getting next year, otherwise I'll pick a cheap console version.

Sorry Ancel :(

I like you and I like this post.

this looks really great
this scale of game seems like the perfect fit to get some of Michel Ancel's crazy brilliance out there.

The flow of the game still seems a bit sloppy, like every other Rayman in existence, but looks like fun. The art is indeed gorgeous though...holy shit...

I played it yesterday on Gamescom for a bit, tried all the demo levels. It's really beautiful. The screens they show it on are ridiculously oversized though, especially regarding you have to stand just 1 m away from them.

Gameplay was solid. It's no DKC Returns, but gets close at times. One sequence where you get into an ever shrinking bubble that protects you from a swarm of bugs definitely evoked the masochistic pleasure of some of the DKC levels, with almost perfect timing a prerequisite.

what did you play it on?

Hope they give an option to do the multitouch zoom is on the backpanel. If the pressure sensitivity is good, at least.

Good lord, that framerate + the artstyle is a delicious combination. Very interested in this- cooperative platformers are truly some of the most fun to be had in video games
