RE4 for PS2 on Halloween

I would get it, but I've already beaten the game a bluebillion times, and chances are most of my money will be more interested in the X360 launch.

I just wanna know what downgrades have been made, specifically how frequent and lengthy the loading screens are. I could care less about lower resolution textures, or slightly worse lighting if the game loads quickly.

I just want to point out that Halloween (in 2004) was also the same day that RE4 on PS2 was announced.

I clearly remember, because it's announcement made the craziest Halloween ever.

It wasn't announced that early. Was it?

I think I still have a screen I took of the Gamefaqs' RE4 board when it happened. I'll see if I can't find it and post it here, it's pretty amusing.

I wasn't a member yet when this shit came down. But I was hyperventaling when I read the story of some Gamecube fans on IGN wanting to kill Capcom employees.

Ohh, it will load super fast on my HDD. :)

I want to see some new videos of the game. Screenshots never tell the whole story, especially on PS2. (dodges the flames, pulls out crucifix to counter the PS2 Fanboy name calling) It's true from my experience though, look at Tekken 5 screens and compare them to the vids. The vids always look cleaner, just like on my TV.

Gamefaqs during the RE5 announcement was also hilarious. Someone argued that the Famitsu scan listing PS3 and X360 meant that it's actually NOT for those systems (hence why they're listed), but for Revolution. :lol

Edit: Here's the "Capcom Death" statements from the announcement thread for you all to enjoy!

I honestly hope people from capcom start dying now. I don't care, let it be by car accident or being murdered, i seriously want them to suffer for this crap, cause they screwed nintendo over for so long. I really just want someone to shoot capcom employees and game producers and all the important people who work at capcom. Let some kind of OMen go across there heads. I REALLY want people to start dying.

I really can't stand this stuff, Capcom may have made good gamnes but nowadays they are just terrible....

:lol

Uh.. have they even announced HDD support for it? I don't think so..

The screenshots look either "average" or "total crap" compared to the GC one (but pretty good for PS2). The video looks better, but still, obviously, not as good as GC.

And ugh, I was going to tell Wario to shut up and not be retarded until I saw that GameFAQs screen capture.

.. Troll away.

:/

I've got the slim model PSTwo, so guess I'm gonna be up shit creek if the loading is as bad in RE4 as I've heard the Outbreak games can be sans HD.

Never heard of that 3rd party product, thanks.

What does it do and how does it work exactly?

And really, it doesn't matter what 3rd party things do, if the loading is really bad on the PS2 version, that takes a lot of goodness away from the game. HDD doesn't matter when it comes to it.

It loads the disc to you HDD making loads far far faster.

Doesn't matter?
It matters if you own it.

It lets you rip games to the harddrive you have hooked up to the system. It cuts down load times significantly and can actually fix some bugs too. It's a brilliant product.

No, it doesn't matter when it comes to the quality of the product, even if you have HDD.

I'll go a little easier on it though. If RE4 has real HDD support to make the load times (if bad) good, then that's pretty good. Still not good enough for people without the HDD or the slimline PS2.

But 3rd party? That matters in no way to the quality of a product.

If you need to buy another 3rd party product to make load times not suck, especially in a game like this, that's a bad thing.

Again, it matters if you HAVE one...and since you were talking to MidgarBlowedUp, it matters.

No one said shit about quality of product.

No one NEEDS to buy anything as were not trying to make this into a feature battle with the cube version. Deactivate damage control sensors. :lol

The point is that if it has shitty loading times that can only be fixed by buying something else, that is not a good thing. I could care less if you already have something for it, that's good for you. But that doesn't make the fact that there are bad load times any better.

And uh, damage control sensors LOL!! eh? That didn't make too much sense seeing as how I'm just stating something in general. Not trying to "damage control" anything. Why would I?

We are talking about people WITH the HDloader. You turned this into universal load times. I could not give a flying fuck about people without a HDloader as I own one.

Yay! 3rd party device bad! Nintendo doesn't make you buy HDloader!

Forget it...I'm finished arguing with a wall. :lol

Uh oh! I sense a lot of graphic bashing coming...run for the hills my fellow Sony brothers and sisters. Let the great tidal wave known as the PSP wash away the sinners.

Haha, oh wow, people were so delusional then.

Whatever, you obviously don't seem to get what I'm saying. That's great that you're talking about people WITH it. I'm bringing up that if it has bad load times, it doesn't mean a game is better just because a 3rd party device fixes it. It's still bad for people without it (which is, most people), therefore the game is not as good as it should be. That's all I'm saying.

LMAO at that Gamefaqs screen :lol

tbh the PS2 screens do look a lot better than I expected. I still prefer the GC screens for their colour palette (it seems a bit richer in colour, IMO) but if I hadn't played the GC version, then I wouldn't have anything negative to say about the PS2 shots

I'm buying this for PS2 as soon as an official list of upgrades are released by Capcom. I've beaten it over 10 times but the game is so damn good I could play it another 20 times if the new additions add to its replay value. I'm crossing my fingers for at least 4 more Mecernaries boards and maybe some sidequests for
Krauser, Hunk and Wesker
.

BTW how much is the HDD Loader?

remember guys, less barrels = less ammo and health pickups. ps2 version is more difficult than the gamecube version.

Um no? I am seeing the exact opposite myself.

And lower grade textures as well.

And just because there are less barrels doesn't mean they can't put more in them.

Here's the deal, and there's really no way around it.

PS2 has ~30M owners in the US vs ~10M Gamecube owners and while RE4 is quite possibly GOTY, 99% of those PS2 owners that don't have a gamecube DID NOT AND WILL NOT buy a gamecube to get this game.

So, the PS2 version is going to sell very, very well. If it turns out to be an aces port, it should have a great shot at selling a million copies this year even despite being a 9 month old game. It should give us a really good idea of where the Resident Evil franchise stands in the US.

HDD Loader is FREE, it costs $0.00 and you do not void your consoles warranty.
The only thing you need to buy is a SwapMagic disk set.
I recommend every PS2 owner get a SwapMagic disk just for the simple fact it allows you to play imports.
Slimline PS2's by default load games faster than the old Fat PS2's.
I know this because I own a slimline and a V10 fat PS2.

or sharkport...or that action replay thing that can transfer files from pc to ps2 memory card

When was Halloween moved to the 25th? Crazy.

This is the same day that Jak X Racing, Ratchet Deadlocked, and Soul Calibur 3 are slated to come out also. Big day for the PS2.

i really hope it sells well (ie outsells the gc version). what was capcoms target for this on ps2? 2 million copies sold world wide?

I just thought it was neat that everyone should have a copy by Halloween.
It might not be at all the stores until the 26th or 27th.

Jak X = $40?

SC3 = $50?
RE4 = $50?

Me = Broke!
