You need to take the plank path off to the right to find the item that goes in the church door. The green gem is just something you can sell to the merchant.

That's not how you open the door. You need to go much further, then eventually you'll come back to the church with the proper item.

Rounds gems tend to go into certain rare objects, so don't sell them right away untill you complete a set, you get way more money that way then selling them individually.

When you walk up to it and the icon comes up saying "JUMP", I can only assume that means one thing.

I think it was what made RE4 so awesome, no big ass puzzle to slow things to a snails crawl. It was straight forward stuff for the most part; RE4 was kickass paced from begining to end.

Uh, if you are patient, you can use said gems and insert them into other items you find later on to make "uber" items to sell.

RE 4's puzzle generally don't expand more than find certain item that fits into certain door to open said door. There are a few puzzles that require a little bit of thinking, but lets just say the puzzles aren't that strong in RE 4.
