RE4 PS2 to support true widescreen

RE4 wasn't even one of the best games of the year, it was a disappointment to me. I would advise PS2 only gamers to rent, not buy.
wasn't? It came out this year.

I think you're in the minority (of those who actually bothered to play RE4) concerning the game's quality.

I know it came out this year, i'm saying i didn't like it. I loved RE and RE2, and thought RE3 was ok. RECV and RE4 i just didn't like, i could not bring myself to finish either game. they both bored me.

Just know now that you're in the minority on this game. I hate RE titles and I loved it.

I know i'm in the minority (at least on GA). If anyone is wondering how far i got in RE4, i made it to Chapter 4-1 before i lost interest.

So if you know that, why would you tell people to rent instead of buy?
The mind reels, Jagernaut.

RE4 is one of the best games this generation. Hell, it's one of my favorite games of all time. Do not listen to this man, PS2 owners

I second that. Resident Evil 4 is the best game of this generation, and has a very different feel to it than the other RE games, so it doesn't matter if you didn't like the other RE games; this game might as well have a different title since it plays differently. The action is faster and the game never lets up; It's too bad Jagernaut never played through RE4 since the last three or so hours are arguably the most exciting part of the game.

I would advise not to make a big deal out of widescreen support. Seriously people, it doesn't make games better or worse to support widescreen.

i'll buy it. the gaf praise have me convinced.

Because i don't think this game is for everyone. The constant praise for RE4 made me think i would enjoy this game as much as RE and RE2, but for me it was another RECV, praised in magazines but really not fun for me. I think old school RE fans especially won't enjoy this game as much as RE newbies.

If you want the graphically surperior version, get the Gamecube version. If graphics don't affect you as much and you want some nice additions, get the PS2 version. Either way, if you don't play it, you are a failure as a gamer. Sorry, there can be no exceptions.

Yep, with a visual downgrade. That's a worthy trade-off.
content > graphics

:D

the ps2 version looks really smooth. check the e3 trailer and you'll see. can't say i care if the gc version looks better or not, since i've never seen or will see it in motion. i just want my ps2 copy to run smooth and deliver this "feeling" everyone is talking about.

and the fact that this comes on one dvd with true 16:9 makes the deal even sweeter. capcom hotness.

Hmmmm does it support Pro scan? If so I might have to finally get it , is it really that much worse than the Gamecube version? I guess I could always rent both and see whcih i prefer.....

The feeling doesnt have to do with the "smoothness" it has to do with the graphical atmosphere that was created.

Saying "source: Capcom" doesn't actually mean anything, link please.

That would really depend on how well the visuals hold up. IIRC, the letterboxing was a performance issue as well an aesthetic one

Actually it wasn't anything to do with performance. GC's 2MB of embedded framebuffer has a separate bus for nothing but frame and z rendering in that memory. So rendering at a lower res is pointless for saving performance as it only wastes framebuffer space and bandwidth that can't be used else were in the system anyway. As the director of the game said the perspective was purely aesthetic. Why they didn't include proper wide screen is anyone's guess, didn't want to delay the game further probably.

Lyte Edge is smoking crack again with his RE4 is the best game of this generation comment! :D But the game is worth owning! In fact, I'm buying it again to get true widescreen support! PS2 version superior.

I'm surprised nobody has done this yet.

I confess, I'm no hardware techie, but I swear I've heard of instances of games running in widescreen with (more) notable dips in the framerate in comparison to their "fullscreen" counterpart. I believe some of Tony Hawk games on the XBOX suffered this fate and maybe some of the EA college football titles, if I'm not mistaken. Wouldn't this run contrary what you've just stated?

I hated all the other Resident Evil games and have beaten RE4 2 times now.

same.

yet i still don't own re4.

i am not waiting for the ps2 version, i'm just waiting for the content enhanced version of re4 for gamecube.

that or it to go to 20$, one or the other.

It doesn't seem to be lacking enemies.

It, however, appears to be done with the real-time engine.

Are you trying to fool me or something, i've played and finished RE4, and i do know cut scenes are all real time, BUT they're still cut scenes..........

I agree. RE4 is no where close to RE1 and 2. It's sad that capcom will probably make later RE games just like 4 and forget about the games roots.

No duh. The point I was trying to make was that the PS2 is still rendering all those characters. We still don't know what the framerate is, of course, it could by all means run slow as hell. But lay of the DC button for a little bit, will ya?

There hasn't been any other title I had as much fun playing and replaying as much as Resident Evil 4. But it just barely beats out the likes of Jet Set Radio and SF3 for me.

The game has roots in horrible combat, horrible controls, and some of the lamest puzzles I've seen. The change to 4 was nothing but a good one.

I really don't think the series has been the same since the first one. That one was a B Movie made into a game. It was completely cheesy but that was what was great about it. The voice acting was bad, but it fit the actual mood because B Movies have bad acting. Ever since then its been more flashy and action oriented than the original.

I still like RE4 alot, its a great game. But there's something still very cool about the original.

RE2 is better than RE1. You want to talk about a successful sequal in a video game, RE2 is it.

What Capcom needs to do is make a new Parasite Eve (which I still need to find again).

uh, Parasite Eve is from Square

It was more succesful, sure. But I still prefer the original to it for the reasons I mentioned.

Parasite Eve is Square's series. They basically ruined it by trying to turn it into RE with its sequel.

I actually liked Parasite Eve 2 MORE than PE1 *shock and awe*

Better monster designs, great music, loved the creepy, unnerving South West atmosphere... PE2 was great.

Fuck Square for not making a PS2 Parasite Eve 3...

The graphics have taken a hit, but widescreen more than makes up for it IMO.

Really? More than makes up for it?
Would you rather have less enemies and widescreen?
Would you rather have crappy lighting and widescreen?

RE4 relies on the excellent graphics for atmosphere.
