RE5 controls: Prepare to get rocked with awesome

Thank GOD! When I saw the controls were still like RE4, I was pretty disappointed. I'm so glad to hear that they're probably addressing this. I want this to control like Uncharted or Gears so bad.

The only way for RE to be...all other schemes can catch a Mr. T super water punch.

No wiimote controls, no sale.

Not going to play an RE game without point and shoot controls.

Really, I'm not looking forward to playing any shooter-ish game with a regular controller anymore. Best they can do will be third place behind KB&M and Wiimote+nunchuk.

completely agree

Wow, people are getting there expectations up really high over this control news. I'm not expecting much, I'd rather be surprised.

This is bullshit. I want a modern RE game, not a fucking GEARS clone.

One of the things that made RE4 so great was the fact that it was essentially the same as the other RE games, but now the camera moved and the ammo was more plentiful. They should improve upon THAT formula, not try to steal someone elses. It won't be a RE game if the toss in Sidestepping, or firing from cover. Especially since its painfully obvious that they haven't upgraded the AI or enemy animations at all sidestepping and cover-fire would totally BREAK THE DAMN GAME.

DO NOT WANT.

The wiimote thing is true, nothing they can do can match the greatness of wiimote control.

Maybe RE5 is very different (but watching videos I highly highly doubt it), something like dual analog can totaly upset the balance of the gameplay that RE4 did masterfully. RE4 is not like every shooter, RE4 is not in the same category as Gears or anything like that, yes they are similar in that you shoot stuff but they play differently.

There is something about RE4 where every single shot matters, every time you fire your gun it feels important, like it has weight to it, like it impacts the game. You dont run around and spary random fire at objects far away, everything is about the up close and personal. You lose that when you character can run around like a crazy man, it would destory what makes RE4 action so unique and incredible.

oh shi- didn't think of that.

Here's to hoping they don't fuck it up. Dunno why, but I have a bad feeling about this. :/
I highly doubt Capcom would fuck with the controls just for shits and giggles.

I bet what we will get is RE4 control scheme with an addition.
You can shoot without aiming which allows you to move around while shooting but it wont be as precise. If you aim properly you might be able to move slowly though.

On random side note, I watched the HD trailer and the 4 HD gameplay montages from gamersyde (<3 blimblim and co) ...

... to the crack babies that've been claiming it simply looks like part 4 in HD ...

:lol

seriously

Holy shit, over a decade and they are actually changing the control scheme. :lol

I'm not counting the alternate controls for N64 RE2. :P

have you guys watched all the gameplay vidoes on Gametrailers?

God damn they are being played by noobs. Seriously I couldn't stand watching it and even yelled out directions tot he player, something I've never done while watching a game video. Probably because I loved RE4 so much I can't stand watch somebody noob their way thru a game I won't have a chance to play for 3/4 of a year.

How does this change that this is the sequel to the first real "gritty 3rd person shooter"?

I'd say Max Payne, The Suffering, Winback and Kill.Switch were around before RE 4.

I remember a time when I could buy Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 3 and Syphon Filter and be totally satisfied because all three games were wildly different in basic gameplay. Now everything with a western audience in mind is just becoming a shooter with a hook or gimmick. Whether it be chainsaw guns, cyborg ninjas, spring loaded minorities or RPG leveling and dialogue trees.

I think that's why I trend towards open world games these days. If developers are going to just regurgitate the same basic ideas, just let me save the money of buying more games and get two in one. Sorta like a breakfast wrap. :lol

I couldn't care less about new control scheme. Tank controls are fine by me.
Yep, me too. Control scheme is fine. RE4 control scheme with Wiimote was spectacular, and GC/PS2 controllers worked fine as well. I won't, however, discount the possibility that a new control scheme could add positively to the overall game experience.

Yeah, tell me about it. I always wonder why in a lot of these gameplay demos, the players are a bunch of retarded scrubs. Do these guys even play their own games? Why don't they get one of the QA testers who has gotten to be badass at the game record some demos? Or maybe they suck too?

I dunno, it kinda reminds me of those two pro Starcraft players at the WWI who tried out Starcraft II for the very first time and kicked two Blizzard employees' asses.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing, on one hand, all games controls the same, and it's nice to see an original control scheme. But after playing Gears and Uncharted, RE4 feels really archaic, also the one stick thing made a lot of sense with the GC controller, but not that much with a Dual Shock 3 or a 360 controller.

Well as long as both control style are well polished, it's a win-win situation I guess.

Ugh, why don't they just add bunny jumping? Well, if they make you're aim unstable while moving and slow your movement down I might forgive them. Even then, making a major change like this so late in the game tends not to be a good idea. I don't want the gameplay from Left4dead, that looks lame precisely because you can run around and jump like somebody from Unreal Tournament.

Edit: Besides I liked the sense of realism and the power that the weapons received from the standing and shooting mechanic in RE4. Moving and shooting with a large caliber shotgun just seems silly.

Still, maybe the only change will be that move with dual stick, but still have to hold down the trigger to go into aim mode, I wouldn't mind that.

He mentioned Gears and COD, for all we know, he could be implementing first person mechanics.

Anyways, I wouldn't mind if they changed it up a bit. I don't see why he can't implement at least some movement. Just standing still is alright, but they need to make it less stiff. Shit like taking time just to put down the weapon needs to go. That split second could be so much more fluid. Turning and the like could also use some tweaking. Doesn't mean you're gonna be roadie running like gears.

I think the RE4HD people are referring to the gameplay and scenarios being strikingly similar. Not that the graphics are shit.

Yeah nice, but before you add some new control scheme create new animations and add some sort of radgoll goddamnit!

with RE4Wii in mind, I don't think two sticks would be detrimental to gameplay balance
You could not move and shoot at the same time in RE4 Wii, what else would you use two sticks for in a RE4-style game, if not for moving while shooting?

This is great, next gen graphics, gameplay and atmosphere with better controls and online co-op.

This is the best RE game that Capcom could have possibly thought up

I'm pretty sure this is going to be the God Hand style dodge. Three major things were leaked by GamesRadar. Online co-op has been announced. In the videos from E3 I noticed that, around the health bar/ammo counter, the word Cover was there, which was the second big thing to come out of the leak, so I would presume that the right stick dodge is probably what they're talking about.

Yeah... if it truly incorporates the dual analog layout then this truly was the E3 of the ultimate suckage.

Oh well Mikami can't stretch to everywhere now can he :(

People, I would say this doesn't mean you can run and gun like gears and other games, but that the analog sticks will function more like the other games.

WHAT!?

Hell no, what's wrong with the RE 4 controls? They are awesome and definitely not broken. It's still my most anticipated game of the HD consoles, but man...
