I actually stopped by the library to flip through some design an artbooks that deal with things from that era. I got particularly interested in the style from old film noir posters, though I don't think I'd make my designs so dark and sleazy.

Yeah, kind of like L.A. Noire was a thought I had for a base. Something sleek and slim, like this.

Led Zeppelin! jeez. Led Zeppelin. smh@myself.

Yeah, we had a nice Zep discussion here today.

I also posted this video of Time Makes Two by Robert Cray, which is probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen, with some guitar work that is both blistering and incredibly soulful.

We should do a "Make yourself look similar to your regular avatar" day. I know some people already did that. Wouldn't be fair to HP though. She'd just use her old avatar >>
More people should do this, I have no idea most RP-ers old avs tbh. :lol

I like to try pretty much anything, but my palate leans Old World. For whites, German Rieslings, especially the drier Prädikats (terrific price/quality ratio), and white Burgundies (depressingly expensive). For reds, red Burgundies (especially entranced by Chambolle-Musigny), right-bank Bordeaux, Barolos, and Barbarescos (hysterically expensive x4). Among sparklers, blanc de blancs champagne. I don't drink much sweet wine, but I'd pick sauternes and sweeter Prädikat rieslings. Also a fan of sherry and port.

I'm not an alcoholic, I swear.

You say you don't care for sweet, yet German Rieslings??? O_o I've had perhaps one that didn't curl my toes (in a sickly sweet bad way), but in general I avoid them. I suppose if you are going drier white they'd be palatable, but I have not found many old world wines that I cared to casually drink (whether for taste or for price). I do have to nod at your hysterically expensive Barbarescos (working as a hostess in fancy french restaurant I had the good fortune to taste them), and am curious if you care for any California wines. I went to Napa and Solvang previously on wine tasting forays and enjoyed some of what I had muchly.

No.

In vino veritas

I have two guns...

I do like your idea though.

I enjoyed both of those clips immensely. I believe I've actually seen that movie, though it was a long time past. I saw we combine the two. capitol Records and tiny mugs of 2-buck-chuck. ;)

You guys ever go wine tasting? For awhile, some of my college friends and and I would go up to Napa Valley ever year and get sloshed on good wine for the whole weekend. Fun times. Haven't gone in three years because of my travels, but they're still doing it.
That's a lot of fun, especially with a stop in Yountville for The French Laundry.

You have to like Cabernet Sauvignon though; the region doesn't excel in much else. Also, the better wineries often require appointments, and many of them charge a tasting fee.

I think I see that movie at least twice a year. it's so incredibly quotable. Now you're making me think of capital Records the movie.

did anyone know that cats can pass on illnesses to humans? i didn't, and my cat was violently ill the past two days, and now i am showing the exact same symptoms as him. :( lo and behold, i looked up the name, and yeah, it can be passed from cat to human.

Yeah, but usually I wouldn't worry too much about it if they just have a cold and and stuff...

Didn't even know cats could get sick, let alone pass it on to humans. Animals get randomly sick? Thought that was a human thing.

Hmmm... My cat may be harboring great knowledge and just pretending to be the dumbest pet I've ever owned. If I consume her brain, will her terrible secrets pass to me? :D

P.S. Feel better.

he's been pretty sick though, he had acid indigestion and has been throwing up anything he eats and tons of stomach bile... yesterday he just didn't eat at all all day long. we took him to the vet and this morning he seems to feel better, but i felt sick beginning yesterday and this morning it's just... ugh.

i've never been that careful around my cats when they are sick cause i always figured we can't pass anything to each other. but this is one of the rare cases where it's possible apparently.

What about dogs? I was always under the impression that they usually don't catch most common flues and colds. I wouldn't want to pass something to my puppies.

What disease was it?

That sucks, I hope you feel better soon :< I know we can't share colds, I figured it was the same with everything! My cat has never been sick with anything but colds.

Oh, and aren't cats adorable when they sneeze? I have to kiss her every time she does...

If anyone is drinking, I recommend this song:

Neon Indian - Fallout

It'll put you in a good mood and give you the best buzz. Timedog posted it in the drunk thread awhile back.

Breakfast club vibe to it. I like

I'm brainstorming to this song right now.

*air guitars*

music to get you thinking? yeah, lots of people do that.

Somehow I clicked through the links on youtube and got to Kylie Minogue... :P

I have no idea how they are related...

You're.... kidding right?

Is this like a Sherlock moment where the most obvious things in the world don't click for him...

we actually just got a new kitten and the breeder called us yesterday and said that he had the intestinal bug (forgot the name), but he's not showing symptoms. but apparently he was still contagious and passed it on to our adult cat. who then passed it on to me judging by symptoms. if we had a dog apparently they could catch it too, it's like some freaky interspecies epidemic :S

I was expecting some super hype song but yeah, this would be a cool one to hear while puttin a few back.

My mind's been blown about the cat passing on sickness to human thing.. sorry to hear that.

Good night protag and good luck with the stories all.

To be fair, my dogs never get sick, since they never come into contact with outside animals. It's easy to forget that there are viruses and spreadable ailments for them as well.

Good night, all! The inexorable call of work tomorrow beckons me to sleep.

Night, hon.

I probably won't stay up too much longer either.

The Germans have a pathological need to classify everything. Among German Rieslings that qualify for the Prädikatswein designation (highest category):

From relatively dry to extremely sweet:
Kabinett
Spätlese
Auslese
Beerenauslese
(Eiswein)
Trockenbeerenauslese

Eiswein (ice wine) is produced through a distinct process, but they are generally about as sweet as Beerenausleses. There are additional trocken (dry) and halbtrocken (half-dry) modifiers to confuse you further, even though the Prädikats are already based on must density (i.e. grape ripeness and sugar content), and further "special" classifcations, including Goldkapsels, multiple stars, and an obtuse vat system, can indicate extra ripeness.

But yes, there are completely bone-dry German Rieslings. The very best of them (Grosses Gewächs/Erstes Gewächs) are the equal of the best white Burgundies from the top producers in the Côte de Beaune. Just like any other wine, the producer is the most important variable. Look for Dönnhoff, J.J. Prum, Weingut Keller (among others) for the really good stuff.

As for Californian wine, there's plenty that I like. Napa is especially strong for Cabernet Sauvignon (whether as 100% or as a Bordeaux-style blend). On the other hand, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are tricky, as you'll have to pick specific regions (e.g. Russian River Valley, Anderson Valley, Sonoma Coast etc.) and producers (Rhys, Arcadian, Copain etc.). More obscure grapes tend to fare less well.

Sup RP GAF?

I've not slept all night and I'm in that over tired like phase where I have all these crazy/cooky ideas that seem awesome to me.

Just spoken to a friend who also stayed up all night (doing a uni thing but not liking it etc) and he's in like the same boat as me, not enjoying what he's doing, not seeing himself as good at anything, not knowing what to do etc so I suggested we start up a videogame website with reviews, news, let's play like things etc.

It's a good idea right? At least for something to do. I think it's a good idea. Maybe not as good as ordering a wrestling mask but still good.

If it's a simple, relaxed thing, they can be fun. I mean, all my site is is a place for me and some friends to post articles and podcasts when it hits us.

It can also be a decent resume builder.

If you telling us it's a good idea, I guess it is.

but it probably isn't

Sounds easier than it is, I went through the same phase of 'let's make a website of stuff we enjoy doing' with a friend... didn't end too well. I did however have a decently successful YouTube account of spankin new video-game trailers and stuff, sometimes before the big name sites even. But it's abandoned now, so... that's not exactly a happily ever ending.

So if I join this party, must I use a brand new photo? I hate taking pictures of myself because I look like a goon whenever I try, and I have a picture from a few years back that is still very representative of how I look.

You don't HAVE to, but participation on themed days is a lot of fun!

You know you want to.

On the other hand this makes "take a picture of yourself like your avatar" day rather difficult for you (if we actually did such a day that is.)

Slow night tonight. I'm no help. I keep drowsing even while I'm drawing...

I've always imagined you as the handsome handlebar'd gent in your avatar. My life is now broken.

It is slow. And I am also no help.... these last days I have nothing to say to RP-Gaf.... somehow I feel....disconnected to it :O
