Clearly it should've been Basketball, instead of Boxing.

Videogum:

On the one hand, I give them credit for removing any pretense of this movie being anything other than robot fight porn. You want to see robots punch each other in their robot faces with giant robot fists and that is what you are going to get. On the other hand, I’m not sure I can think of a movie with lower stakes*. “Oh no, what if the robot breakzzzzzzzzzz!” Nope. Like, unless Hugh Jackman’s sick grandma needs 25,000 Disney Dollars or else she’ll lose the hologmortgage on her hover house and the Big Fight just happens to have a grand prize of 25,000 Disney Dollars but where is Hugh Jackman even going to find a robot in time and it has been years since he…controlled a robot with a remote control…so he’s got to get into remote control shape but who is going to train him in time, other than that I do not even know what the dramatic tension could possibly be. UNLESS it is just to see whether or not Hugh Jackman’s frequent pants urination will short out his prize-winning battle bot in the middle of the important round. That’s probably it.

*BESIDES Entourage: The Movie.

the only problem i see with this movie is that the robot designs are just really boring. we need more mech and less tech.

Agreed! The more projects involving robots that come out of hollywood the more apparent it becomes that no one knows how to do mech designs well. :lol

That being said the designs in this looked leagues better than anything to come out of Bayformers. Baby steps.

I actually love the concept, but something like this is going to be riding entirely on execution. I'm not exactly hopeful but if I have the money when it comes out I'll see it in a theater.

EDIT: OH snap I remember that episode of the twilight zone! Screw it, I'll see it the day it comes out even if I'm broke :lol

District 9 says hi.
The mecha suit in District 9 was so good, best part of the movie. It not only had a good design, but the weapons were great as well.

The mecha designs in this at least look better than Michael Bay's Transformers series.

Ya'll are crazy. That looks entertaining as fuck :lol

I AM surprised they didn't try to get the Rock 'em Sock 'em license though. Maybe they thought the name would be too hokey.

A mecha suit with a giant glass cockpit right in the middle pretty much kills the entire "function" aspect.

1. It's dense, high-impact resistant.
2. They gotta be able to see a wide frame in front of them given how they control the suit.

Doesn't make sense at all for a ground combat machine. Ground based vehicle platforms are armored up tight due to them being in close range situations. High-impact resistant glass and such is used on aircraft and such for visibility and they are kept at long range that protects them from most projectiles and usually not fired upon. Course the gunships high impact resistant viewports were penetrated by arrows in that movie.... :lol

Only the smaller Scorpion gunships, not the Dragon gunship rawr! And the Scorpions were only penetrated given the speed and strength of a Na'vi dive-bombing.

The dragon should be a beast, but the scorpions one would expect to be stronger than that. Modern combat helicopter canopies can withstand a 20mm round which has much more power and velocity than an arrow would, even with the dive bombing factored in. This is supposed to be the future and the canopies they are using are apparently worse somehow. One could say that they were using substandard gear being a PMC and not having access to true military arsenal...

But not with bones REINFORCED WITH NATURALLY OCCURING CARBON-FIBRE! :lol

As for your other comment. If you read Pandorapedia, you'll find that they have much more advanced tech that they couldn't use due to the magnetic fields on Pandora.

how to make this movie better:

instead of the robots, the fighters are criminals who have been subconsciously implanted with powers while under cryosleep. hugh jackman is a cop from the past who was also under cryosleep, falsely accused of being responsible for the deaths of several dozens of civilians. but now hugh jackman is the only one who can stop the super criminals from causing mayhem.

we'll call it "the unfrozen police officer vs. the hyperthugs"

instead of the robots, have bladed spinning tops with metal pieces (not plastic). hugh jackman is the disgraced vet of the blade circuit. he owns a flat overlooking a bay where he passes his days as a semi-hermit reflecting on his blown opportunity. one day he's called back to the ring for another chance. 80's training montage, cheesy rock music, jackman becomes the champ

we'll call it "Bayblade"

...oh yeah and the movie would have cursing and blood and partial nudity.

fixed

I can't say I haven't enjoyed some downright terrible movies in the past, but wow, that trailer makes the movie look like garbage.

Must watch.

I wonder if they'll make the robots intelligent and raise some questions on the ethics of making sentient beings destroy each other to death.

Kinda looked like it in the end when Jack was painfully watching his robot get dismembered after probably deactivating it so that it would lose - that big wad of money points towards the game being fixed.

Then I suppose he uses his old fighting robot as a base and rebuilds it to be stronger, faster and better while fighting himself back to the top league - slowly developing the bond between him and the robot.

Maybe we'll even have some robromance.

So some Hollywood studio exec sees Transformers, or rather sees Transformers make almost a billion dollars worldwide, starts looking for other children's properties involving robots that can be exploited in similar fashion, somebody at their little brainstorming session brings up Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, and... this is the end result? Because if that's how you tell me this happened I'll believe you.

When can I expect my Rock Lords movie?

Basquash? Never heard of it. It looks nice. Is it worth the while?

I watched like half of it, Im not quite sure why I never finished. It is a pretty cool over the top type anime though.
