In terms of sales, accolades, influence, fame, etc I can't think of anyone who comes close to Kanye for how long he has been able to sustain the success that he has had. Sure he suffers from mental illness now and is a completely unstable human being, but many of his hits are timeless to many like me.

How can people say not rapper but artist? Really? That's a competition against people like David Bowie, Prince, members of The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Johnny Cash, Freddie Mercury? I think they're way ahead of him in talent.
Kanye West is famous and makes good music - to the point that I like it a lot and it's not even a genre I listen to frequently but I make an effort to listen to his music. I've heard him playing on the radio all the way from Berlin to Moscow and his music has wide appeal, but certainly not the greatest artist of all time for me.

He has wide appeal and is a great producer, but his mic skills are weak. His verses always come off as weak, compared to other rappers.

If you add up his production, lyrics (pre-Yeezus), influence, sales, accolades, controversy, impact and everything surrounding hip-hop? As a full collective, he's probably #1 there I'd say. Since he joined Roc-A-Fella 2000 he's been changing the game. I don't think he'd win 1 category but if you add everything up on a scale? He's a monster. That's 16 years of quality.

No. He isn't even on the top 100. His skill is entirely in production, his rapping ability is subpar on a good day. His production has also become quite terrible in recent years, which means he has nothing to offer anymore and should focus on charging suckers hundreds of dollars for the cloth sacks he passes off as clothing.
