It looks amazing, I totally love the design, it looks WAY better than the PS2 design IMO. It looks really nice horizontally,tried to make due by rotating the image.
 
Thanks for the shot. I love that they'd retained PS2's two-tier design theme.


Edit: And since there will be, anyway, ....let me be the first to say: But it's HUGE!!! And the controller's butt ugly!!!! (one of these is true)

Yeah same here, but it looks a lot better on the PS3 IMO.

The first shots didn't really show off the two-tier aspect (that's what makes it look good in either orientation). I wish I could find a good horizontal shot to show, it looks mighty fine in that orientation too (going off Sony's PC).
 
I hate the two tiers and I hate the design. I don't know which is worse, the PS2 or the PS3. At least the PS2 is honest about being ugly as sin, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

Ah well, BC means I only have to have one of them standing around, so I'll manage. It's just sad the days of a console looking like a console are seemingly gone :/

RIP PSX, PC Engine, White Saturn, Core Grafx, Super Famicom, Dreamcast and soon GameCube.
 
Yeah, I'm horrified that the days of my consoles sticking out like sore thumbs due to their extreme hideousness is gone too.

-1000 to Rev, Xbox360 and PS3 for actually blending in with my entertainment system and not being fuck ugly.
 
bump, in case anyone is interested. The shots so far have been crap, and the system isn't getting the love it deserves for its design.

Revolution > XBOX 360 = PS3

Sorry, but the revolution being that tiny is just awesome. LOL, I really could care less about how these things look or how well they fit into my other accessories, but Nintendo's gotta get credit for size on this. And this is coming from an Xbox owner.

Speaking of XBOX, I alwayd felt that it still looked the best because its horizontal. Truthfully, I can't stand how the PS2 looked or how these new consoles look vertically, I'm keeping mine horizontal!

But XBOX 360 and PS3 are about the same to me.

Don't get me started. If it's not redesigned, I will be extremely sad. Even if they don't want to redesign, I'd rather take a DS3 (exactly the same as DS2) with wireless. It'd be the lesser of the two evils.

I inverted the pic cause I couldn't find a proper horizontal shot. The ones I did find were taken from a high angle, making the system look like crap. The two-tier design needs to be highlighted as it's the strength in the PS3's design IMO.

I'm a vertical fanboy. I love how PS2/PSTwo look vertically. PS3 looks even better, and now that it's a tray system, no more awkward loading into sideways trays/flip lids which is awesome.
 
I just hope the Spider-Man font is placeholder and they replace that with a PS3 in the same font as the PS2 on top of the PS2.
 
It looks nicer when you can't see the insert disc arrow and the power icon, yeah.
But those USB ports... why the hell do I need 6 USB ports (2 on the back too)? Are the controllers gonna use these?

Looks like they've added curves to hide the fact that it's actually bigger than PS2. It looks to share the same basic form as the PS2 though, which is ok as I've grown used to it.

If anything the convex curves make it look bigger though, not smaller. I'm still not sure it's really that much, if any, taller than the PS2 (when it's vertical) given the size of the disc slot. We're bound to get a better size comparison at some point though.

It would be perfect if the system was about the size of the PS2. Hopefully it's not Xbox1 size :(
 
I like it.

Anyone realize most of Sony's products are metallic in colour now? It was black b4 (my old Sony receiver & PS2); I have a newish Sony DVD player & receiver and they are the same colour as the PS3... I think they will look nice together :D
 
Ugliest of the nextgen consoles, and worst sony design lately, at least you could rotate the PS logo on the PS2 so that it was always facing the right way, on the PS3 the logo only is right when the console is vertical.
 
Looks like the building of the future standing vertically...or something that was robbed from Superman's fortress of solitude.

Ehhhh, no :) well, looks like the logo rotates, that's ok, and the more I look at the thing the more I like the PS3, but nontheless I think it's the ugliest of the 3, too rounded, and looks cheap, at least the PS2 had LEDS.
 
Hmm...just how big is that thing? I'm having a hard time working some dimensions from the slot drive. IGN puts it at like 3" taller (longer) than the Xbox1 and .5" thinner. That's pretty damn big. And it dwarfed KK...who's a dwarf. But it looks like that slot would make those dimensions wrong. Meh.

Anyway, I like the look a lot, but hate the Spiderman font. And I hate the controller. PEACE.
 
This has got to be one of the ugliest console designs I have ever seen. I can't stand the convex and concave shapes of the 360 and PS3. The X-box 360's ugliness may stem more from the horrible face design and toxic waste on white color scheme, but I don't know. This monstrosity is just pure hideos. I'd rather have Plain Jane, but tinily sexy and simple Revolution. Wtf is wrong with Sony/MS?
 
The product shots don't show off the glossy finish of the white and black models, which I think actually looks pretty sleek:

I think the PS3 is by far the worst looking next-gen system. The size alone just makes it incredibly ugly.

If the three consoles were all the same size, I'd say the X360 is still the most aesthetically pleasing, followed by the Revolution. I just don't like the shape of the PS3 either, there's absolutely nothing 'sexy' about it. It looks like one of those huge VHS players.

Well, as it stands, the Revolution looks the nicest to me. Iwata said it's going to be smaller in the final design as well, I can't wait.
 
The more I see the live photos, the more it's starting to grow on me... Definitely more interesting than the blah, sterile looking, aluminum high resolution product shots.
 
Sure is nice to know console looks are more important that what it can do.

I thought I was at GAF or something.

I've seen the number at IGN as well and I also don't get how the hell they calculated it or if they got the number from Sony or not.

Looking at the pictures so far it seems less tall (long) than the original PS2 for one.

When looking at this picture (found with Google) of the original PS2, the disc drive is about 263 pixels long and the console is about 619 pixels from top to bottom. That means the console is about 2.35 times as long / high as the disc drive.

When looking at the picture posted in this thread, the disc slot is about 197 pixels long and the console is 436 pixels from top to bottom. That means the console is about 2.21 times as long / high as the disc slot.

Assuming the disc slot of the PS3 is about as big as the disc drive from the PS2, the PS3 seems less long / high than the PS2. Am I making a mistake or what?

You're absolutely entitled to your opinion on its looks, since these things are subjective, but: LEDS and buttons are better than back-lit touch-sensitive ones?? Are you kidding? :lol
