sounds just like me

I also just recently got into The Killers, and now I see what I've been missing. When I gave it a quick listen earlier this year because everyone was spooging over it, I didn't really feel it. Then I happened to be at a friend's house and caught a few minutes of them on that Hard Rock Live show and decided to give it a try again. I liked it, my friend got it for me for Christmas, and I'm loving it.

My new "new" band is The Servant. I checked out their website after hearing "Cells" in the Sin City trailer, and I loved the other songs, too. Now I'm going to have to pay to have the CD imported. They remind me of Muse, except actually good.

You guys aren't implying that The Killers are elite, are you? Their album has been in the Best Buy ad nearly every week and they've been on MTV on Hard Rock Live. They're hardly elite.

Aren't The Killers that group that sound somewhat like The Feint, who sound somewhat like Interpol, who sound somewhat like Franz Ferdinand, who sound somewhat The Arcade Fire, who sound like The Rapture, who sound like... ad nauseum.

This "Disco Rock" trend that's hitting the airwaves is real bizarre (and derivative). I'll stick with PiL... decades on, and still a hell of a lot better.

killer's album is just overall very well produced and catchy, nothing wrong w/ that. i agree with the oiginal poster in that, its good refreshing fun music if you are burnt out on nu-metal and cliched modern rock (3 doors down, POD and what have you).
now the feint, they are different though. they are a lot more danceable and broody. the emphasis of electronic elements in their albums is a lot more prominant. i have all three of their albums, and while somewhat repetative, they are quite good.
franz is the only band amongst these i'd consider truely "disco". ok, rapture as well.
interpol is just melodious joy division.

nitewulf... c'mon. Interpol sounds nothing like Joy Division, musically speaking. Joy Division's music was really sparse and cold.... the only similarity is in the vocals, and it's blown way out of proportion.

Having been brought up on the likes of Joy Division, Bauhaus, PiL et all in the 80s. I just don't get the appeal. It's like de ja vu... and the fashion / aesthetic trends that seem to running in parallel to this "movement" are equally vapid. But this is just one cynical mans point-of-view. :)

i know you are a huge interpol fan. :D
yes, JD is very minimalist, thats why i said interpol is a melodious JD. the similarities are too prominent to ignore though. :)
but being influenced by JD isnt a bad thing at all you know.

i know. what im saying is, better this than cliched angry nu-metal, and cheesy angry gangsta rap. at least these bands exude a "feel good" vibe. the younger gen listens to just the music anyway. they are not gonna care about the lyrics all that much.
i mean, you know as well as i do that JD, Bauhaus are never gonna be mainstream, even if some of the new waves trends come back. just like fad gadget, gary numan never became really mainstream superstars. most ppl are gonna listen to the stuff thats watered down, always.

The Killers are what mainstream pop music should sound like. They're not particularly deep or innovative but I'll be damned if they're not good and fun to listen to. I'd exchange any 5 artists getting heavy rotation on MTV for 1 band like The Killers any day.

Well, I see what you mean... but to me they are not much different from cliched angry nu-metal or cheesy angry gangsta rap -- just a different audience. But with that said, I do enjoy the occasional Interpol track, much like I enjoy the occasional gangsta rap track or cheesy pop song.

new age? you dont want that shit, thats hare rama/hare krishna stuff! :lol
i think you meant new wave, i'd suggest starting with pet shop boys and depeche mode. then moving onto new order, fad gadget, gary newman, devo and so on.

Talking Heads?

Everything up until Andy...great stuff. Catchy, easy to listen to pop music.

Everything after it other than Midnight Show? I can't stand it. It's derivative, boring, and generally uninteresting. I think I would have ignored how crappy Natalie and Indie are if they weren't right next to each other, but as the album is laid out it kills it dead for me.

Still a good album overall, mind you, but nothing amazing on the whole. Some great tracks in the first half, though, definitely.
