i think 360 and PC is a given. But MS dont believe in subscription fee's for games, Shane Kim said this a week ago. MS must of declined RTW when they pitched to them

plonkers

Final Fantasy 11 had a subscription fee...

It's a bit confusing. The IGN preview says 100 players per city instance, but the GS preview suggest hundreds.

Not confusing at all, really. The individual criminals and individual law enforcement agents=human players.

Shop-keepers, truck drivers, cannon fodder, etc=NPC

Also, the game uses the Unreal Engine 3 and Realtime Worlds has only licensed it for the PC and Xbox 360 as far as I know. They must have heavily modified Unreal Engine 3 to achieve this... I would have never known if I didn't happen to look it up :P

None of their listing under "Careers" mention anything about the PS3, everything is for PC and XBOX360.
I really don't see this game coming to the 360 and even less likely, the PS3.

So if i got it right, the game automatically makes you encounter with other players with similar stats/lvl right? But what if your stats are much more advanced compared to the other player's?Can we expect a differentiation within cities based on players' stats/lvls?Like a lvl 1-10 city,11-20 etc etc...?
Also i hope this will the ps3 too,it's a very interesting concept,it would be even more interesting if it had cross platform gameplay,i can already see the xbox gang battling the sony defense force cops:lol

pr0cs I will take you up on any kind of bet you want.

Loser has to make a youtube video of them in a pink bikini jumping around singing barbie girl in a girly voice and post it in this thread?

MS and Sony won't allow cross platform multiplayer to happen, Harmonix talked about that issue when developing Rock Band. They would have loved to have cross platform multiplayer in that game.

I was a bit confused by this comment from Dave Jones:

"We will not create any of the players in the game. The players will create them,"

I think he was talking about models for the player characters. They aren't going to have a load of presets for you to choose from.

This is mental, I love the concept so far, it's very much the ideology of CoH/V executed correctly. However we need to know more than we do before we get too excited.

I just hope it goes beyond a GTA style romp in regards to gameplay though. I want criminals to be able to take hostages, the police getting cash bonuses and criminals getting reputation if they survive, or notoriety if they're executed or killed. I want to see the ability to arrest rather than kill, the ability to threaten npcs so that they don't call for help, that kind of thing.

I also think it needs some larger scale elements, in players can't interact with each other apart from in instances the world is nothing more than a combination of instance space and hub.

I don't understand why not,it's not like it hurts financially one hw house or the other,it's just a great opportunity to take multiplayer gaming to a superior level being trown in the trash can....

LOL, I wouldn't take that bet in a million years.
I secretly hope I'm wrong and this game comes to the 360 because I can see it doing really well assuming everything they showed in the video ends up "doable" on the 360.
A persistent world/character using a sandbox genre played with 10s if not 100s of other people would likely sell like mad on the 360.
I just have a feeling that the technical aspect of the game and it's mechanics are suited better for the PC and would require some serious changes to work well on a console.

I'm really surprised it's using UE3.0, everything shown in that video looked like a revamped version of the crackdown engine, or was crackdown also using UE3.0?
It just differs so much from UE that it's hard to believe that UE is actually driving it.

Now that's a great bet!

Man, why the fuck does GameVideos even exist? I mean, it's clearly not part of the solution here. Everyone complains about it! It isn't part of the problem. IT IS THE PROBLEM.

Last straw here, fellows. I'm indefinitely boycotting GameVideos unless they fix their shit.

Gametrailers > GameVideos

I just wanted to watch that character creation video, but noooo~.

Sorry, i ment MS arnt interested in publishing MMO games. Something about no real formula for making money and it being far more risky than normal game development. True Fantasy, Marvel MMORPG both failed. Unfortunatley.

Which was my original point of MS probably declining this project.

Looks promising for the 360 add this title to the list of:
- GTA 4 exclusive (episodic) content;
- Left 4 Dead
- Dead Island
- Alan Wake
- Gears of War 2

I mean that's what I call a 'line-up'...

Just for clarification, RealTimeWorlds wants to make a Xbox 360 version of the game but is awaiting approval from Microsoft (presumably about the dedicated servers).

Here is an interview with destructoid.

DESTRUCTOID: When I spoke with Colin Macdonald last week about Crackdown he had mentioned that an Xbox 360 version of APB may be coming out. What are the plans so far on that?

NICKY HUNT: We are talking with Microsoft about the Xbox 360 version and I think we have approval, but we haven't started the development process. Our priority though, has always been the PC.

EDIT - It appears that was an interview at last years GDC but was posted just a few days ago on that site. Its a YEAR OLD INTERVIEW.

:( That's too bad - might be a long wait if it comes to the 360. This game is lookin' good.

This game will be big..well literally, and figuratively on oh so many levels.

Looks incredible. If this gets shown a little bit more...No doubt it will generate quite a bit of hype at E3 and then the hype will trickle down to the gamers.

It'll be amazing if this comes out by the end of the year for PC and spring 2009 for the 360.

They've been touting it for the 360 for at least two years now, so one assumes they've taken that into account while designing the game.

Edit: Oh, and I'll take any kind of bet I can win with Gowans, just so I can see him dancing in a bikini. Trust me, you'd want him to lose.

"That may generalize things a bit but the point is clear: Things like AK-47s are instantly recognizable whereas their "geek" counterparts (a Braggarts Bow was cited as an example) are niche. Jones' advice is to, "Make games contemporary; make them cool, it lowers the barrier."

I feel like I'm reading an Onion article.

Looks very impressive, just what the sand-box-crime-fighting/gangster genre needs. Nice to see someone reputable handling it too.

Whoop don't have time to read the preview, but right now :

MMO that's not about fucking elves and dwarves : Cool

MMO by the guy who brought you the awesomest sandbox experience this gen : do want.

Is this for real?

Read IGN's preview. It looks like the testers loved the character customisation, and they wanted to make their own movie with their characters. They made a J RPG spoof.

correct....

Wonder why they didn;t make crackdown 2... seeing as this game shares some features?

Politics?

Oh shit... is this coming to PS3?

This looks great... I think that what they're talking about with the instancing could be really game-breaking.

Think of the single-player GTA3+ experience, with your "wanted level" gradually increasing - the parallel in APB could be matchmaking automatically adding more and more enforcement offers to your instance pursue / stop you. And it could all be transparent (seamlessly joining the instances of various parties), instead of sitting at a menu screen.

Very next-gen.

They just need to make enough fun mission varieties, and add in enough social avenues to provide a payoff for the customization. And pull off 60fps and no latency and all that :)
