http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=161033

The year is 2117. The evil Arelian Empire has been in control of planet Earth for 70 years. Initially, the Arelians brought peace and prosperity to a world ravaged by war, disease and ecological devastation. Later, they controlled Earth's inhabitants through fear, using their henchmen the Zorn, to abduct people when they turn 30. Now a band of rebels rises up to fight against the Arelians.

* Four Play Modes - Campaign, Skirmish, Multiplayer Hotseat(1 for Game Boy Advance) and Multiplayer Link Mode.

* Turn Based Strategy with a twist - Destructible maps and gas canisters, use the environment to your advantage with true line of sight(in 8 directions)

* Turn Based Combat System - Players control individual soldiers in a turn based combat system. A replay option lets players review what happened during their opponent's turn.

* RPG elements - Experience true character interaction and development. Equip characters with different types of weapons and equipment, including grenades, sniper rifles, missile launchers and laser rifles.

* Stealth Skills - Players hide and dodge at the end of a turn in preparation for an enemy attack.

A new recruit, Jorel, quickly advances through the ranks and becomes their leader. He organizes the rebel forces and builds a powerful global army. Soon he'll challenge the Arelian Empire for control of planet Earth.

Namco sure has jumped on the GBA bandwagon recently. What's that about? They're pumping out their own games like crazy, not to mention acquiring titles from other developers.

I don't know, but then, I'm not going to complain, either. Namco's just all over the place this year releasing excellent games (Death by Degrees and Starfox notwithstanding)

Because that system is very profitable for them.

I'm always down for some RTS/Turn-based strategy games for a portable. Sounds pretty damn good so far, would love to see some screens though.

Saw a picture and paragraph on this game in the Nintendo Power... it's supposedly from the developers of those old X-Com games... which I never played but heard were pretty good. It's got kind of like a Blaster Master style to it, graphically... SD characters and stuff. Looks like it might be pretty cool.

BTW, if this is the same one that was in the newest NP, then this game is being handled by the Xcom team.

Looks sweet IMO. Reminds me of Xcom and if it is indeed by the Xcom team, +1 SALE

jan, Business Director, Namco Hometek Inc. “Role playing elements and a new twist on turn-based strategy bring depth and high replay value to Rebelstar Tactical Command.”

Very sweet, but I have to wonder why this isn't on NDS? Oh well, at least I'll be able to play it so I'm not complaining

GBA's bigger installed base means a game like this (which is likely to be a niche title) has a better chance of being profitable. At least, that's my guess.

OMG awesome.

Hopefully it's more like X-Com and less like SO HARD YOU'LL KILL YOURSELF RATHER THAN PLAY Terror from the Deep.

I had no problems with TFTD...

It was generally twice as hard as the original X-Com. Still good, but hard as fuck.
TTFD difficulty was just right (once you found out that lobster things could be killed in one hit with the drill, it became a whole lot easier too).

X-Com was way too easy - and it was also broken. The higher the difficulty level, the easier it was to play (higher level = more aliens = more money and artifacts, faster and easier game progression).

maps were bigger which was great! AI was smarter which was great! but both games are just the luck of the draw... in the TFTD game I beat, in the start I never had to shoot down an UFO this means I had a butt load of resources and was able to make killer weapons...making the game a lot easier

Hurry up August!! Just in time for my birthday!

Between this game and Sigma Star Saga, I'll have to give it up to Namco for giving some developers out there a chance to create some new IP's instead of churning out sequel after sequel. I hope it pays off with some sales at least (they have my dinero for both :))

more companies need to create new IPs... esp for all the new consoles/handhelds coming out!

Threads merged. Next time use the search. I'm gonna start banning for these duplicate posts... it's getting annoying.

Hate to bring back such an old thread but...

I just saw this game for the first time tonight and I'm already excited. I can't say I'm a huge fan of X-Com. I honestly didn't give it much of a change (then again, that was a *long* time ago) but the concept was cool and this game looks great and I love turn-based strategy games. Hopefully it will join my little GBA library.

I'm a huge fan of X-Com. Too bad I have no GBA and no DS. Namco please port this to the PSP to reach the widest possible market! :lol

no, PSP fanbots can rot with their "pretty graphics," this will stay on the GBA. This is what you get for buying a handheld only when Sony entered the market.

Oh excuse me, then I wonder what the GB, GBC, GG and WSC are over there. Oh right, they must be SONY handhelds. It's not my fault the majority of the GBA library completely disinterests me, so watch where you're throwing those stupid "fanbots" comments. :lol

Terror from the Deep > Enemy Unknown >>> Apocalypse

Still, the greates turn-based games EVER made (I loathed JA series).
