Recommend me a PS2 game!

Im thinking about getting a PS2 game.
The last game I got was Katamari Damacy.
What are some good ones?

I was looking at:
GT4
Mercenaries
Virtua Quest
Y's

Anything else I should check out?

I was thinking about doing that. Can't find it anywhere though. So Its only worth a rental?

Great game, but decidedly short.

I rarely buy games, so it's not a slant against the title. Don't take it that way.

God of War is worth buying, I'd say. It isn't too terribly long, but I think it's worth owning. Of course, this depends on how you feel about the whole issue of buying/renting.

Ys VI is awesome too. Haven't played through the PS2 version, but I did finish it on PC a while ago. Very fun if you enjoy ARPGs.

Demento/Haunting Ground is also pretty awesome. The comments about ICO + Shadow of Destiny + Silent Hill were suprisingly accurate.

The last game you got was Katamari Damacy. (What was the last game you played, though?) If you're anything like me, you have to counterbalance the bright colors and quirkiness with something dark and gritty. God of War or DMC 3 gets my recommendation - the latter, especially.

Ys is great, especially if you like oldskool 16 bit style action RPGs. Nice to see this gameplay isn't all but dead in this day and age. This gets my vote.

God of War was meh, a bit overrated. The fatalities are cool the first time, but by the 30th time you start to get sick of it. Plus, the challenge level just isn't there, there's lots of cool combos and stuff, but it's just as effective to pummel the square button as fast as possible. This style of game has been done before and much better (Ninja Gaiden, DMC3).

God of War is worth owning. Make sure you play ICO. Stella Deus is suppose to be good if you're into strategy games.

King of Fighters 2002/2003 or Street Fighter Anniversary Collection if you like fighters.

Metal Slug 4/5 if you like 2D side scrollers

Buy God of War. If you want to rent it good luck. I STILL haven't seen a copy in at any of the rental places.

So I just bought it, and have no regrets.

God of War is good but lacks depth compared to others in it's class. Id reccomend DMC3 before God of War if you're willing to invest some time into learning how to properly play the game. It's immensely satisfying once you do.

fuck "learning" how to play a game. This is videogames, not trade school. GoW kicks ass from minute 1 until the very end and doesn't let up, like old school action games (i don't remember having to "master" a fighting style in Castlevania 4, or Turrican, or Contra ect.... My personal GotY by far. Mercenaries is cool as hell too. I would recommend both of those.

While I can certainly understand this viewpoint, it's like the difference between DoA and VF. One is more flashy and has a great pick up and play feel to it, which is fine, the other is deeper, and more satisfying in the long term. If you're willing to put the time into learning the nuances of DMC3 (which some aren't, and that is absolutely okay), then it keeps giving you more to learn and master. It's just a very 'rich' gameplay experience, while I see GoW as more of a cinematic experience. It's a matter of what you're looking for.

EDIT- I should also add that DMC isn't really a hard game to learn. It just seems that way at first. I've played DMC1 only breifly, and never played DMC2, so DMC3 was for all intents and purposes my introduction to the series. It didn't take me long to start really digging into the game and figuring out how to make it do what I wanted it to in terms of abilities.
