Please recommend some movies!

2012 - flood!

The day after tomorrow - everything freezes!

Wandering Earth - totally over the top!

The Wave and it's sequel The Quake (Norvegian movies, a great example how to make a great disaster movie on a small budget).

San Andreas - not too bad.

Deep Impact - old and special effects are dated now but still pretty good.

And of course, Titanic.

Crawl was decent if you’re looking for a recent one.

Greenland just came out and I’ve heard good things about it.

otherwise my go-to is day after tomorrow. (Or ID4 if alien invasions count.)

deep impact Armageddon is also a good one. Volcano has a cheesy 90’s vibe. Or twister for that matter. The perfect storm I’ve heard is also a good one.

I've seen them all. Good ones.

I recently watched Greenland with Gerard Butler. Thought it was gonna be trash but it's actually pretty decent.

How about To The Lake (Russian pandemic TV show). Doubt you've seen that.

Knowing with Nick Cage

Melancholia, but it is Lars von Trier. It's dreary.

The Road

Cloverfield is a disaster movie pretty much.

The Wandering Earth, awesome Chinese movie on Netflix full of CGI, destruction and Weta Workshop wonders

Geostorm is underrated, you get three movies for the price of one (disaster, Gravity clone and Tom Clancy thriller)

I watch The Road once a year just to remind myself how good shit is and to take advantage of it. I'd be doomed running around with a kid and a dirty coat hiding from marauders.

Crawl had a good premise and the alligator CGI was cool, but it was crazy how much the female lead could withstand (including gator bites) while minor characters were killed off easily. I understand wanting to keep the movie interesting, but they went too far imo. Normally you avoid this by introducing several main characters and killing them off one by one. ;)

Deep Impact is probably still one of the best disaster movies even if it has some cheesy scenes. I also like going back to Cloverfield and Twister. The Wave is a pretty good Norwegian tsunami flick. Melancholia may be tough to watch as a whole, but it has several great scenes.

War of the Worlds, the Spielberg version. People hate on it, but I liked it, one of my favorite Spielberg movies.
Yeah, I quite liked it too. Pretty fun movie. When I hear weird noises in the hills here, I always assume one of those damn pods are going to come over the hill and I’m going to freak the fuck out.

What about the News? They're pretty disaster movie-ish these days.
Just wait till after Covid-19, they will still find some doom & gloom to bombard you with each day, they know this is what sells. Part of why I successfully managed to ban daily news at home.

I think 2012 is peak disaster comedy. I love that movie so much, it is one of the most hilarious movies ever made. Yuri-bear is the best character in the movie by far :)

Me too and that was one of my best decisions ever. I feel so much less hate and terror without having to think about all the shit going on in the world. It's not only what's happening but also how it's communicated.

Volcano with tommy lee jones if you like magma.

Or train to busan if you consider a zombie invasion a disaster.

always chasing the next thrill
The premise alone gives me a proper headache and steers me away from watching it. Disaster movies went with various crazy scenarios in the past, but this has to be one of the craziest ones.
i watched it because of this thread.. fuck that dude that recommended it. i bet you he has a love pillow collection.. that movie was weeb trash

You can add in horror/comedy too, stuff like A Quiet Place, This is the End or Shawn of Dead.

Even Warm Bodies was pretty cool.

The 2006 Wicker Man remake with Nic Cage is a 10/10 comedy masquerading as a 1/10 Horro movie

I saw "The Wave" recently, a Norwegian film about a fjord tsunami. Not too shabby. Apparently there's a sequel called "The Quake". I guess I might see that one tonight.
