Red Alert 3 on the DS ?

A port of Red Alert would do.

Those pics above wouldn't be possible though. C&C got ported to N64 and that one looked pretty bad iirc.

The N64 version was in 3D, besides the fact that the DS is apparently more capable in the 3D field, there'd be no reason not to stick with 2D for the DS version, which it shouldn't have the slightest problem in handling.

Edit- Ahh, see you're talking about the first two pics, still, I don't see why EA would bother with trying to create a 3D engine capable of the amount of on-screen action the C&C series is known for on the DS. 2D makes far more sense, so I'd say we're looking at something in the vein of Red Alert 2.

I love how this thread continues to grow...

You really have a connection to te RE3 team Ferrarisimo? And if so, has it ever happened before that you didn't know about a game, you were working on, being ported to another console?

Since it's EA now... It kinda makes sense to me. Though on the other hand, They'd have to make a whole new game for a single platform which can't be ported. I can imagine they only want to use their money and team to create a game that can be played on every system.

The name of the studio that is developing Red Alert 3 for NDS is called Petroglyph , and they're developing the game under supervision of EA Pacific.

EA Pacific hasn't been around since March 2003. And as far as I know, Petroglyph is only working on the Star Wars RTS.

Oh my God, Red Alert, Red Alert 3, or any Red Alert on DS is music to my ears!!!!

that means a decendant of Herzog Zwei is coming to DS. Herzog Zwei afterall, was basicly the first RTS game ever, not counting the original Herzog on MSX. anyway I loved Red Alert on PC and PS1. one of the better RTS games made. Please let this be true. I crave RTS (Red Alert, Command & Conquer, Herzog Zwei) and turn based (Advanced Wars, Nectaris/Military Madness) games on DS

...

There's no such thing as EA Pacific anymore. It hasn't been since 2003. C&C dev is being carried out at EALA...

Petroglyph is making star wars empires at war for lucas art.

I'd think making a new engine from scratch with perhaps the same missions that'll be in the obviously upcoming PC version would work. Make a simple 3D map and have sprites appear with layers or something so that air units would be properly displayed. Make the sprites themselves fairly small as well. Either small or scalable so you zoom way out, to the point where as many as 50 sprites would be on screen at once or zoom right into 1 sprite. Make the top screen of the DS a minimap that also displays your resources and objectives. The bottom one would contain the game and upon clicking a structure - mini build menu's.

I think it could work.

The only new code would be to translate the mouse interface into the touchscreen interface + the buttons. Not quite the same as building an old game from scratch as this will be a new PC game that is being developed simultaneously for the DS.

As for whether it will be 2-D or 3-D, it will most likely be 3-D. The DS can handle it just fine.

I have nothing to do with Resident Evil 3 :)

Heh, no but seriously do you have anything to do with Red Alert 3 or EA in that matter?

Just so I can remember you as an industry insider it's not like I will release a tidalwave of questions to you :)
