The waitress’s tip: zilch. The reason: She was black. And now Toni Jenkins, who works at Red Lobster in Nashville, Tennessee, was suspended with full pay for posting the racist jibe on Facebook.

Toni Jenkins found the receipt after she served a couple in their 20s at the restaurant in a Nashville suburb on Saturday afternoon. She posted the receipt on Facebook apparently to raise “awareness” of racism in the state. It promptly went viral.

well i mean she released someone's personal signature to the entire internet so, at the very least, that's pretty inappropriate and short-sighted. not defending the person who wrote the comment - it's asinine.
 
Suspended with full pay is hardly a punishment. Thats a vacation to me!

Did the customer really write that, though? How do we know that she wasn't so mad at not getting a tip that she wrote it to ruin the customer's reputation?
 
Didn't something happen at an Applebee's like a year ago that was tangentially similar? Like some waitress posted a receipt to shame a customer?

Yeah, I'm sure she was fired for posting a receipt on twitter, regardless of what was on the receipt. Non-story.

Pretty much; Red Lobster has to do something, no giant corporation is going to risk giving the impression employees can call out customers on Facebook, but this seems like a good way to send a message to both sides.
 
Was expecting the waiter to be racist and came to mock. Now I'm just mad.

Suspended with full pay sounds like they're investigating. 9 times out of 10 these stories are fabricated so I'll withhold my outrage for now.
 
Is the signature and slur written with the same pen? The color looks a little off. If true that's some fucked up shit to find after working a table.

What reputation? In any case, it's an illegible signature, not a mug shot and address.
 
Yeah I can see why posting someones signature from a picture you took while on the job online might be bad.

Glad she is suspended with pay, I'd rather she didn't receive a repercussion but hey, its time off with full pay.

Do they work in the tip when they say she's suspended with pay? Because if not, what do wait staff get as a wage? I know its horribly low. So that shitty.

Hopefully its not a long suspension either if they aren't factoring in tips since it could affect her living.

The restaurant did the right thing by suspending her WITH pay. She didn't mean to do anything maliciously, but showed poor judgement by exposing the customer. That being said, even though she is still getting paid, she is missing out on tips. She fucked up...<chrisrock> but I understand </chrisrock>

While the south is no stranger to racism, the style of the writings don't even match. One looks like it written by a kid and the other looks like a regular, illegible signature.
 
Horrible people, and I'd have totally done the same.

Suspension on full pay may be a contractual thing, I know somebody who still got fired after that.

This was my first thought. She got stiffed and got pissed. I was stiffed twice as a waiter, and it SUCKS. I bitched about it in back, but that shit happens. Some people suck.

But who knows, I guess the couple COULD have written the N-bomb, but I just don't know...
 
Maybe they suspended her also because of the "jab" at Tennessee and southern states.

Also, suspension may mean they're evaluating on whether to fire her. Some jobs suspend people for a few days until they decide whether or not terminate said employee.

Anyways, piece of shit customer. People like that shouldn't even walk out the door and go to any public place if they're so afraid of anybody who's not their race, religion, gender, height, weight, etc. This is a Red Lobster restaurant, not a KKK rally. Do society favor and stay the fuck home and never even peek your racist face out in the first place. Scumbags.
