Red Orchestra 2 Beta is Now Available on Steam

Turning off Ambient Occlusion really helped my FPS. Back around 60 now. Need to turn off a couple more things and it should be like butter. I wonder if this title favors Nvidia or AMD?

Tuned off ambient occlusion and reducing shadows to high really helped with my FPS. I'd also love an option to disable AA without having to go into the Nvidia settings manager.

As a new player (I have never played RO before) I am definitely turned off so far. I will keep plugging away...but not tonight. :)

Woa chugs on Crossfire 6970s.

Crossfire probably doesn't work for it yet. The game seems pretty scalable too. You just need to turn down some of the effects like Ambient Occlusion and you should be good to go.

edit: after reading a bit more, maybe it's not super scalable. I don't really have lesser hardware to test it out.

Yoshiro kept posting the the official ro2 steam chat about this page, the gray box specifically, to solve the server browser problems

mine's still downloading so i've no idea if this is the solution

Finally got a few games in and the game is GOOD. Lots of bugs to iron out and a little bit of the trademark jank but overall i'm very happy with how it plays based on the couple matches.

A few maxed out shots, without bloom, comparing the different post-process filters.

Normal:

Enhanced:

War Tapes:

The game is AMAZING. So refreshing. It's a lot prettier than I expected too.

Lots of bugs and stuff, but being a beta and all, I'll report them in detail and hope they fix them before the release. Either way, this is certainly a fantastic purchase for people looking for a realistic mp fps.

Yes, it really does. Usually I'm not a fan of filters, but I think both Enhanced and War Tapes look better than Normal. War Tapes has a great photorealistic feel to it.

Oh, and some other guy's screenshot, if you want to see how bloom ruins the picture.

Wow, definitely another game that has me turning off bloom. The enhanced filter seems to add a lot of color to the picture and will make up for the bloom. I'll have to compare enhanced and war tapes when I play to see which I like more.

I'm 80% downloaded so I should go on the RO2 forum and bitch that they lied about me getting to play it on the 30th sort of like some people have done already when they said it was the next day already in Europe...lol. Note that I'm being sarcastic while a lot of people on their forums aren't. :P

Apparently reverting back to "default" controls fucks up everything. Couldn't move at all or aim after pressing default in the options.

I'm loving this. Worthy of being the sequel to my favorite FPS ever. Runs and plays great in-game. I've gotten a few crashes when in the server browser (which also kills the menu framerate), so I've had to play instant matches.

This is the buggiest game I've played in my life.

And I've played Magicka.

It's to be expected from a small developer who doesn't have access to massive QA facilities. Hopefully it improves a fair bit by release.

The core game appears to be functional very well, which is a good sign, at the very least.

And its a beta...
Well yeah but still.

I bet they'll push the release date back farther.

Yeah this is the problem I'm experiencing right now. It's the worst!

According to Can You Run This, I'm all good on the minimum, with the only thing in the red in recommended is the video card. My trusty ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 should be alright with a stack of the eye candy scaled back.

Less floaty feel to controls/movement, better hit registration, better cover system.

Folks, this is a beta. Is the game perfect? Ofcourse not but lets wait to actually see how it progresses after release.

This game feels great. Really fucking great.

I could do without those English voices though.

I didn't see an option for that, unless minimal chatter cuts out all the English lines?

Good news to wake up to. Too bad it is still buggy but I was kind of expecting that, this being a beta and a Tripwire game. Today is gonna be a looooong day. I probably won't be able to try it out until after ten tonight. Oh well, maybe a patch for the server problems is out by then.

Not working for me. Graphics@max (auto).

Single player mode gets me to difficulty select screen all the time and multi crashes when loading server D:

Probably won't be playing this today, but downloading now. Fortunately I have a free weekend from work so you know what I'll be doing.

Apparently you can't change the english voices to russian/german in beta. Hope it's planned for the release build, though.

This game has a huuuuge learning curve. I've played a few maps/rounds and it's really hard to tell what's going on.

One of the devs confirmed SP isn't available in the beta. Not sure why the option to play it is there.

Is the black and white screen effect bugged? Actually, what is it supposed to mean? I thought it was for suppression or whatever but my guy shat his pants at one point and went right into that while no one was shooting at me. At another point I was the one doing the shooting and it kicked in again. I'm guessing it's bugged like everything else at the moment, but yeah, what exactly is it for, heh.

fyi -- this is an actual beta. not an exclusive demo. they're gonna work out the problems.

That being said:
THIS GAME IS AWESOME. I love the sound and feel of the weapons. The slow pace, the risk/reward of advancing position. Just how important everything feels. I'm scared to die when i play this game.

:)

So how is it performance wise? Also how many video optios are there, is it pleasing us PC enthusiasts?

I have a 2500k and a 6950, I'd like to know how it will run on my system, actually I'd like this to be an open beta and THEN buy the game.

Also we need videos, I'm not really a fan of WWII games but hey if it's good it's good.

TeamSpeak and Vent servers will be a must!
