I must concede that if Redfall was a next gen graphics tour de force at 4K, the fervor against 30 fps would be less impassioned. But the game looks mid at best. This was definitely a last gen title ported over to next gen.
These lengthy dev cycles need to end. By time the game comes out it goes from great graphics when revealed to middling graphics once released. This is an Xbox OneX and PS4 title trying to compete with AAA current gen games.
Arkane is learning a tough lesson. There's a big difference between being a mid-tier 3rd party developer to a first party studio. First party games have a higher expectation. Hopefully their next title takes this into consideration.
If Microsoft actually had a bigger stable of first party titles that were ready, Redfall would have been delayed a couple of years to move it to UE 5 and polish up the visuals a bit more.
Arkane is a B-tier studio that's out of their depth as a first party.

It's clearly true, I mean there's no way MS would've released Halo Infinite in chunks like they did if it was retail only. Imagine going to store to pick up your $60-70 copy of the new Halo game, MS's premier franchise, only to find out you can only play multiplayer, then a week or two later you get the campaign and then close to a year later you get co-op campaign and maybe some day, if you're lucky, you'll get forge.That'll help the whole "gamepass leads to games releasing incomplete" narrative.

very bad take. neither i5 nor ryzen 5 1600 are slouch cpus, at least compared to consoles
probs xbox pushes around 35 45 fps avg. cpu bound. them cpus can easily push 30-35 fps similar to xbox
this is a single thread performance bottleneck, and a coffee lake or a zen cpu is not that afar from zen 2, especially low clocked, low cache console counterparts

The long dev cycles are a necessity if you want to make your AAA even more AAA. But it got to a point where some games are too long in a sense. There has to be a way to streamline that. But it needs good studios with good direction, and to choose to do smaller games. Not easy to decide when graphics and having huge amount of content is king in marketing terms. We do not need GOW Ragnarok to be that big, but it had to be or the trilogy would have been ended around the PS6, and that had been said by Cory Balrog himself. If one of the best studios can't get away with it it will be hard to escape that.
I disagree about Arkane. They have no responsability in this. They are not a B- tier studio. They just are a small one. Nothing wrong with that. When they got into the Microsoft umbrella they lost control of their future. And it became Microsoft responsibility to make the right choices about this game. Failure can happen in the gaming market as in any market. Destruction all stars bombed not that long ago. It was Sony responsibily, and it was their failure. Same for the TLOU pc port that we got recently. Nintendo failed to bring Metroid 4 to completion and it seems that the game is far from being done. Those things happen.
But we can easily find excuses for those failures. Destruction was just not a good game enough. Covid made consoles hard to get so there was not enough consoles when the game was out. Nintendo got unlucky and the studio they send Metroid failed to do it justice so they got it back in house. And will probably make it a switch 2 launch game. The TLOU is a port, and the "real one" was good on PS5. Shit take but for Sony the PC is just an aftermarket at the moment. They got Nixxes to help but they can't do it for all of Sony games.
Halo Infinite got delayed. It still was out unfinished. This game seems to have the same problems. We heard rumors here that Starfield too will be coming hot after another 1 year delay. Being considered as a first party is all about being compared to some of the best studios in the world. And if games like Kena, Sifu or Stray can do it, Arkane can do it too. Returnal is proof that even a small develloper can grow to do great things with help. And hellblade 2 will be I hope the same for Xbox.
Arkane is paying the price of Xbox weak momentum. I am certain that they are full of people that do all they can do to ship a good game. Like 343 was before them. But bad choices have been made. And they will pay the price by having lay offs when it could have been prevented by either stopping it earlier if the game was not good enough for Microsoft ambitions or delayed until it is ready.
Sorry for the rant but I see so often people attack the studios when they are just bound by impossible deadlines and mandates that the executives consider indispensable.

Yeah, when you think about it, Far Cry 5 released initially at 30fps, so it is not like games like this aren't released at 30. No doubt it will feel a bit slow to the CoD or Fortnite crowd though.

Might not be getting compensated/embraced like he thought he would. They even use some of his material in their promotional tweets, doubt he gets paid accordingly for it though.
Mugs like him are the reason they can get rid of much of their marketing team and reduce marketing spend.

It's an excellent game with insane level design that unfortunately also features Arkane's stiff controls, terrible sound mix and weak performance. It's still fucking amazing, especially if you value emergent gameplay.

No doubt. I fully expect Starfield to be 30fps, as that is what the rest of the Bethesda RPGs have released with on their respective launch hardware. With the 60fps options coming in later versions of the game on more advanced hardware.
I was thinking more about shooters when I first commented, but I had forgotten about Far Cry which is a big shooter that does also typically launch at 30fps.
In the end, I probably won't be able to hold out and will end up playing Redfall at 30fps anyway. But I have to have my "I can't believe it's only 30fps" moment first. LOL

When the Series S was announced I knew that was pretty much MS's way of saying they are going to focus mainly on the casual audience now, that why that console gets so much hate because of what it represents going forward.

This is not the way to go, especially when we look at what the competition is giving their fan base.
The fan base wants new high quality AAA games with experience not found elsewhere on the most powerful console, not this.
When a company spends nearly 70bn on an acquisition for games the fan base was getting anyway, instead of investing that into new high quality AAA games. It's obvious that fan base is going to lose hope.

Not trying to justify it. Just pointing out why some single player games have 60 fps modes while coop ones tend to have issues. This is obviously unacceptable for a first party game. I just dont think its a simple fix or devs from gotham knights, bungie (last gen) and arkhane wouldve fixed it already. MS shouldve offered help or resources to get this sorted out by launch. this is not a good look on MS the publisher.
Klobrie was probably paid at some point. Xbox Ambassador program recruits guys like him and they are paid for sure. I think one of the era mods was an Xbox MVP. whatever that means.
His 180 has been good to watch. If a bit too late. Him along with other xbox fans shouted us down for years about the boneheaded decision making at the top. We warned about this, and they just stuck their heads in the sand. Now they are the third year with no real exclusives, the power narrative failed, the series s didnt help them win the charts, and might have caused more headaches at first party studios, lack of meaningful controller and UI changes, and well, MS top brass are just not well equipped to handle first party studios. Stuff we'd been saying for years.
That said, i think this is an overreaction. Shipping this coop with 30 fps is not the end of the world, and starfield and forza will make this a great year for Microsoft fans. He will be back singing Phil's praises in six months time.

Another thing I noticed with this is how they don't even specify a release date for 60 fps patch. Is gaming industry the only one that seemingly lacks any and all sense of deadlines? Imagine if a filmmaker said "yeah that CGI? You'll see it finished some time from now."
Online patching has basically killed the sense of having actual deadlines for your projects. Redfall is already a project that has gone way over deadline numerous times now. Not being able to commit to a deadline is IMO very weak form.
