Reggie Fils-Aime on Xbox One/PS4 lineups: "Meh"

Most major 3rd Parties are on Wii U as well. You forgot Batman Arkam Origins, which is also coming to Wii U, Splinter Cell Blacklist, which is already out on Wii U.

Especially on GAF people should definitely check everyons games line-up more thouroughly before making ridiculous claims and comparing them.

Those are the PS4 and Xbone launch titles. 3rd parties are highlighted red. :)

Batman and SCBL are not launch titles, which is what Reginald is talking about.

The WiiU has the wonderful 101 and as someone who has the game I will say this, I doubt any of the launch titles for the other will come close to it's sheer awesomeness. It's amazing. Trouble is america won't find this out for a short while.

For those criticizing Reggie as an executive, he has proven himself to be a very smart marketing guy and has made Nintendo a lot of money. You have to realize that he has very little actual control over what Nintendo does hardware or software wise, his main job is to sell what Nintendo does to a North American audience. I don't think there was any strategy involved in this statement but at this point considering Wii U sales, any publicity is good publicity.

It really is incredible how Nintendo PR is the same year after year, launch after launch. "We have zelda, we have mario, etc..."

Really crazy how these software companies year in and year out talks about their software. I hear Adobe is still yapping on about Photoshop - they really need to get some new IPs.

It's a Zelda GameCube "remaster" and a now NSMB homogenized 3D Land sequel. This is a huge comedown from many moons ago when Nintendo fans were frothing at Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy on the Wii. Zero excitement.

Bring on Drive Club! Evolution Studios are great racing developers.

There was a time when Reggie was a name that commanded respect on enthusiast gaming forums.

Yup, during the days where Nintendo was the underdog and feeling like they were close to going the way of SEGA ;)

Fuck the successful. Fuck them 10x harder if they found success with a product I didn't ask for!

I just looked at the Wii U's line up for the rest of the year and uh... what's so good here that I am missing?

A 50 dollar Gamecube port, a Mario game that looks like a 3D Land port and a Donkey Kong game that looks identical to that one that just came out on 3DS. That's pretty lame imo.

I'm not gonna get into whether the new consoles have better line ups than this yet again, but one thing I can say for damn sure is that the Wii U's 2013 looks laughable compared to the PS3's line up this year both now and through the remainder of the year.

It'll certainly be interesting to see where things stand in a year's time for the Wii U against even more prepared competition if at the moment it is failing to be more appealling than a machine it is supposed to be a generation ahead of.

Like fine wine. I'm mainly a PC gamer, but until Sony starts making their 1st party titles on PC, I'm gonna have to buy their consoles.

Thats why I said I buy consoles for their exclusives ;)
That and I find console gaming way more convenient. But that has nothing to do with graphical prowess

Wii U launch lineup, and fall lineup for that matter (IMO) is nothing to write home about. When the new Zelda, Mario Kart, and Smash come out, then I'll call their lineup amazing.

The thing is the wii u launch lineup is a thing of the past. Theres no reason to dewell on that. Everyone has their growing pains and now its PS4 and Xbone turn.

Any real gamer that likes games cant really knock the Wii U lineup this holiday season.

Current gen has a much more exciting lineup of games from now til the end of the year. Makes easy skipping on next gen.

Ask "Media Crate", The game sold only 5000 copies + the Wii U ended up with 7000 units last week.

Reggie's W101 didn't even help to maintain the 10k units per week lol.

And that is funny exactly how? That a great developer and game from them did not sell well because it is not aligned with your dudebro shooter agenda? I am actually sad as Platinum is an excellent developer and by the impressions W101 is a deep action game with a solid story.

I really cannot understand the behavior by some people in here, really sad :(

Yes but he's comparing launch titles to titles already made available on their console during the past year. Give Microsoft and Sony one more year and let's see what happens and then compare.

Got to agree as far as the rest of this year but I hope Nintendo can keep up with the PS4 and the X1 next year when they'll more than likely get a ton of content (highly doubt they will keep up).

I think it's pretty sad a company like Nintendo keeps milking the same old franchises and is afraid of trying to create some new IP.
Making HD ports (Zelda) and "recycling" a 3DS game (mario world) is not something I'm particularly interested.

Really crazy how these software companies year in and year out talks about their software. I hear Adobe is still yapping on about Photoshop - they really need to get some new IPs.

Wow, what a great comparison. Wait, it isn't.

Am I praising Assassin's Creed or COD? I got bored with them within 2-3 games. People complain all the time about these yearly rehashes. However, the systems those games are on feature plenty of other quality experiences.

yeah but most of those games you highlighted will be on other systems, or PC. so if I have a good PC, then why should I be excited about the launch line up when everyone knows you buy launch systems for the exclusives. I mean, sure if you are impressed and don't have a good PC or a PS3 or Xbox 360 then ya I guess it's a great line up, but just like the wii Us, I see a lot of games on there I can get on something I already own.

So yes it is Meh.

Reggie is straight up trolling GAF.

And I fucking love it.

Meh, bitches.

Dis gon B Gud

Yeah he is trolling GAF. "I have a system that is not only not selling, but lacks the power to compete with other next gen systems."

We do not need Assassins Creed, Watchdogs, GTA5, and so on. We do not need Madden, Fifa, and NBA2K whatever. I am sorry I cannot continue to play the fool. I think that maybe they have a year discrepancy on ... Sorry it would just be mean for me to straight up. Delve into the situation,

Kamiya, EAD Tokyo and Retro Studios.

How anyone can call that assault "lame" is beyond me.

But you're right, they look like N64 games.

He's not wrong. There is no killer app or "must have" titles in the launch lineup of either the PS4 or XBone.

I made this argument in my Indie Love-in topic, but i think the definition of killer app is different for everyone. For some people, a "killer app" is not merely a lone game, but a healthy eco system of games that allows you to feel comfortable knowing your idiosyncratic tastes are satiated while at the same time ensuring new quality content keeps coming.

That is why Sony's indie strategy, and Microsoft's every one is a dev kit, and Nintendo's extreme indie friendliness is all extremely positive developments for me: because alongside their AAA games, which take a little longer to develop and polish (ok: a lot longer), indie games will constantly be coming out to fill in the gaps. I know my investment is sound because these systems will have an extremely healthy gaming ecosystem, and that is the killer app.

If their launch line ups are meh, then what the hell is Nintendo's launch line up? Utter dogshit?
They had ZombiU which is one of the best horror games since Resident Evil 2.
There were lots of other games out on launch but most of them weren't that great. (Exceptions e the already mentioned ZombiU, Nintendo Land, Sonic Racing Thingie and Scribblenauts Unlimited)
It's a matter of taste though, like always. Some people prefer Killzone/Killer Instinct over Sidescrollers, Puzzle games, Party games or Horror stuff.

Reggie was right PS4 and Xbone line up is "meh", only thing interesting is Dead rising 3, ff15 and kh3, and dont even know when those last two are suppose to be released. Wii U launch wasn't any better especially since Rayman got delayed along with Pikmin. But doesn't mean Sony/Microsoft are immune to a crappy start as well which it definitely starting to look like considering the line up.

Reporter: Have you seen Titanfall?

Reggie: meh

Not a launch game.

To the OP, I think Nintendo's fall/holiday lineup is pretty "meh" too. The difference of course is that Nintendo isn't work long with the uncertainty of a "launch" anymore. They should be getting into the full swing of great games by people who understand the hardware.

While there are a few solid games in there, Pikmin and W101 for example, the listing is hardly exciting. Rehashes of your staple franchises without anything interesting to set them apart from all the other iterations you've already done, some quite recently? Come on Nintendo, you've got nothing to brag about.

I made no comment on the quality of the titles, simply stating that Reggie was calling a large number of third party games "meh." Not really a good look if you're looking to attract third parties to your platform.

So I'm not a "real gamer" by your vague arbitrary standards for not getting hyped for another DK game, an HD port of Zelda, Pikmin, and a new IP?.... ok sir.

Reggie just became GAF public enemy No. 1 hahahah.

But I'd say the same, both the PS4/Xbox One launch lineups are WEAK. Let's be real.
