The story was borderline retarded.

Only boardline retarded? Don't give it too much credit. :lol "Muhaha, I, Lex Luthor, have kidnapped your friends and put them in this virtual reality machine. If you want to save them, you must too enter the virtual reality machine and...fly through these hoops in under a minute! Faster or you'll never see them alive again!"

Did anyone actually play the multiplayer mode? It was was even worse than the singleplayer, I think. Superman 64 was the complete package.

Remember when this came out. Was in a video game store with my mate and told him that this is one of the worst games ever, the guy working there overheard and jumped in with: 'You know it is one of the best selling games in the US at the moment!'

I was completly dumbfounded. I... I... I couldn't get another word out.
Needless to say that store, and franchise, recently went out of business. Can't say I ever bought much from them after that day.

I remember EGMs 0.5 score and I never played the game till about 2 years ago. A local gamestore had it in a kiosk (probably a joke) and literally hopped on it with enthusiasm. I must say, very few BAD games live up to the hype. Superman 64 fucking did. Wow, just wow on so many levels. Awful game. But awesome game.

Multiplayer involved flying around in some sort of vehicles if I recall correctly, it fit the game really nicely by making no sense at all.

Trying to fly through those rings was truly a bitch. I don't even know why I tkept trying.

I thought the multiplayer was fun though...

Only because of the pathetic laugh every time you killed someone.

"Huh huh huh."

This game was so horrible. Luckily it was only a rental. I couldn't imagine buying this game. I think you probably get a one way ticket to 'you know where' if you did....

It was especially dissapointing because of the SNES superman Beatumup that was pretty good. Forgot the name. Doomsday was in it.

I bought a used copy of this game just to see if it was as bad as people said. It was. Possibly even worse. It was like someone distilled the tears of a thousand children into an N64 cartridge and fused it with pure, unadulterated hatred for gamers.

I never got to play it but I remember reading in several mags that Cosmic Race was really bad. From what I remember, Game Players gave it a 0. From what I gather they didn't even have collision detection in the game which meant you could drive through anything on the track (through mountains or through the bottom of the actual track) and it didn't matter.

This game looked worse with each year this game was shown off.

1997 - I was looking forward to this game right here..

WTF! It looked nice there? Those screens can't have been real.

LMAO Superman 64 was hilarious. These posts rekindle the hilarity. Ass am off.

A good friend and I rented this in the States many years ago, and sat in his basement playing, and laughing, and laughing some more.

When you do Superman's punching combo attack in the air, we used to crack ourselves up thinking it looked like he was having a seizure (bless our little cotton socks). But then my friend's sister would get mad at us for laughing at his "disability" :lol So funny.

I remember seeing a woman raising her voice to a Target employee because they told her Superman 64 had been delayed or they didn't get it in. I'm 95% sure they said it was delayed. In any event, she was in a real hurry to buy this POS.

Also, someone really needs to post the CG renders that EA tried to pass off as Portal Runner gameplay screens early on. The final game looked horrible.

Yeah and for then on, in the score breakdowns of percentage meanings like 90+% meant awesome or something like that, thier 0% stood for Comsic Race.

Superman needs glasses. Where's Clark Kent when you need him?

You guys shouldn't be making fun of this game, the reason it looks so crappy is because you're not Superman. In Superman's eyes he can see the REAL game because he has SUPER vision, and it looks beautiful, 60 fps, 2 million polys per character, and music played by the london philharmonic (Superman has Super hearing too).

Unfortunately being lowly earthlings, our eyes aren't capable of seeing the REAL game which is why it looks like shit.

This thread is depressing. The Superman license could make for an amazing title in the right hands. Yet it has never happened. Id like to see a next gen Superman title with an open city like the recent Spidey titles.

I remember cyberspeed. It was like a poorman's wipeout, featuring worse everything. But I don't know, I still think it was more shippable than our notorious Super.

never played Superman, but as far as worst games go it would have to be CyberSpeed.

CyberSpeed was actually a marginal game. It wasnt good by any means, but it was probably a 3-4 overall. The game was actually somewhat playable and the graphics were actually pretty good. I think it even reviewed fairly decent.

Hehehe, this is probably the worst N64 game ever made. It's probably one of the worst game of the N64/PSX/Saturn generation.

I've sold it, so I unfortunately can't take pictures of it.

I played a game that's worse than Superman 64. There was an import that I picked up for the Saturn, because it was very inexpensive at the time. It was a psuedo-horror... game called Death Crimson. It was an utterly unplayable mess. There was slow down in the intro. The FMV was pixelated mess, it seemed like there was a delay whenever you tried to turn, and everything was a dark brown. To this day, I still say that it was software that should have passed beta testing.

What's worse? They actually made a sequel to it for the Dreamcast. I think that Gamefan back in the day actually had it in their import section once.
