Remember when we categorized generations by bits?

I remember being so fascinated that so and so system had 32-bit over 16-bit and the N64 was 64-bit, therefor the best system!

... Now it's not even an afterthought. And how do we classify the current gen?

Xbox has a 32-bit bus and 32-bit registers.
GameCube has a 64-bit bus and 32-bit registers.
PS2 has a 128-bit bus and 128-bit registers.

All consoles have extended instructions which can process multiple data in one instruction (SIMD).

So ...

Xbox = 32-bit
GameCube = 32-bit
PS2 = 128-bit

when i worked at gamestop people always came in and asked how many bits the systems were, or "How many "Bit-Graphics" does it have?"
