Sony Reveals New First Party Org Chart Categorized by Studio Focus

Based on the leaks, unless Insomniac went back to the drawing board, Wolverine was not going to live up to potential.
Agreed, but the leaks werent supposed to go public and alpha versions are never a good indicator to finished game.
Intergalactic seems like a trolling initiative more than an actual game at this point.
Oh, behave its going to kick ass, the rendering alone (as I have mentioned before) is absolutely top notch and it's Naughty Dog so it will play extremely well. Now story is up in the air but we know very little about that but so far sounds like typical Sci Fi which I have no issue with whatsoever (Uncharted in space will be perfect for me). There have been some very weird takes about this game so far but we know so little about it.

It'll all be ok.

Xbox is necessary for Playstation to be good. I wish Xbox would have thrived a lot more. And I've never owned any Xbox consoles.

I wish xbox never would've went third party. The biggest mistake they made was doubling down on gamepass when the results weren't adding up because now it's left them in a terrible situation. They should've realized that it wasn't working and cut the cord which would've pissed off fans in short term, and in the long term they could've went all in on making content exclusive and being cut throat. I just fail to understand why they're so hell bent on gamepass when the growth has stagnated and it's completely sunk the brand reputation in the process.

Its the same reason as any business. Whether we like it or not Microsoft is making more money than they ever have and also have a robust subscription service.

Sony platform owners are buying their games and pc and xbox users are signing up to gamepass.

I agree with you whole heartedly about them cancelling gamepass and going all in but the reality is Microsoft cant get away with signing big third party money hats like sony. They dont have the userbase and everyone complains at them when they do it for a bigger game than something like stalker 2. Etc.

On one hand: Very good.
On the other hand: The singleplayer games that Sony's first party put out this gen were largely cinematic bore fests with shit writing. So hopefully they're doing more video games that actually aren't embarrassed to be video games, like AstroBot.

Just my personal taste.

Horizon is awful. Ragnarok was OK to fine and Ghost was fine apart from boring as sin in places.

Sony first party AAA games are basically ubisoft games and we all know it deep down.

I agree to disagree tbh. I like horizon, astro bot, returnal etc. I think ragnarok is overrated tbh 'found it boring in spots' but i can't say that sony's first party games are ubisoft games lol. Ubisoft games all have the same feel too them and they run together tbh.

True, but what are the odds that they won't try to load their multiplayer up with live service elements, like a battlepass, daily login rewards and the like?
Well they were working on a multiplayer Spider Man game but I believe that was shelved and that most likely would have been Live Service. I'm not sure they are working on anything multiplayer currently although it wouldn't surprise me if a future single player game had multiplayer elements but I think they may have moved away from the Live Service stuff.

The wolverine combat leaks looked perfect honestly with alot of brutal kills and dismemberment which is what wolverine should be. The story won't be a masterpiece, but if the level design and combat hits then the game will be really good and worth a buy.
For one, disagree about the gameplay. It doesn't look expressly bad, but it could be a lot less mundane and similar to SM.

Second, the story needs to be a masterpiece, and they need to make good choices for the characters that will eventually populate the X-Men duology. Otherwise, it's going to be an overall underperformance. We've seen the X-Men be mediocre before, the standard is now up.

Intergalactic needs to show off a gameplay demonstration because naughty dog gameplay is usually top tier. If they can nail the aesthetic and create a great story then it'll be a banger. I feel like alot of the hate for the game is the bald protagonist, but it seems like she was shaving her head for a reason that they'll probably explain in a gameplay deep dive or story trailer.
The aesthetic looks like an absolute mess. Generic 80s nostalgia + ripping off Akira + robotic soulsborne is the kind of thing one of these indie slop games looks like. I actually didn't want to believe that that was the new ND title when I saw the reveal.

Those all sound like optional things that. you don't have to engage with. You can, for example, play The Finals once a week and never touch the battle pass. Same with Fortnite.

Tbh i don't mind third party money hats from any company 'sony, nintendo, xbox' and i feel like they're good for the industry cause it's a competition after all. And xbox really wouldn't of needed third party moneyhats anyway because they bought 2 publishers and could've supplemented themselves with all the exclusives that buying those publishers provided them 'besides COD'. I feel like making games like indiana jones, doom the dark ages, oblivion remake, etc exclusive would've been massive if they didn't have gamepass and were just going all in on exclusive content for there hardware.

I like Insomniac but i can't name the last time that i'd call one of their stories a masterpiece honestly. I feel like taking a marvel IP and creating a masterpiece in terms of storytelling is almost impossible do nowadays 'points at all the junk marvel movies'. I'm just expecting a good to great story that supplements the good to great gameplay that the game will have which will lead to a great product.

And i think intergalactic will surprise people once they show it off more but it's hard to come to any conclusions about the aesthetic, etc because we don't know enough about it. I did like the tiny sliver of stuff we saw and i feel like akira is a good influence to borrow from because that movie is incredible to this day.

I'm talking about on a creative level. They weren't doing enough with Wolverine on a gameplay level as I think they could and should on the PS5, and the choices they were making with the likes of both Logan and Jean were just... ugh.

Spider-Man started out being probably the best version of the character and then they just totally ruined it with SM2. I don't have the same confidence in them now.

When you decide that you're going to spend seven years to make a new IP that looks that generic, with a protagonist designed around owning the chudz, I cannot presume that the dev team is serious enough about their own jobs to make a "kickass" game. Especially not after years of concession to browbeating for the work environment that created past glories.

Hope is not lost. Remember that the best games on ps3 came on the tail end of ps3 era. I believe renaissance of ps5 is about to happen starting with DS2, then GOY, then next year Saros, Marvel tokon,Wolverine, etc. But yes Ps6 im sure will be back to the good old Sony PS.
PS3 had great exclusives (actual exclusives, not cross gen, not having PC ports) from day 1 right till its end. PS5's first party output is nowhere near PS3 and let's not even get to the third party games.

Development on games coming out over the next 3 years started ~3-5 years ago. Decisions seemingly made today or over the last 12 months will not affect those projects.

There was a time long long time ago around E3 2006 when MS was showing a fantastic game called Gears of War to launch in Holidays 2006, at the same time Sony was announcing the awful Genji: Days of the Blade as a launch title for PS3.

Almost 20 years later and the history is very different, but a strong Xbox is needed for the industry.
Sony first party AAA games are basically ubisoft games and we all know it deep down.
Ubisoft would like to have even 50% of the sales of Sony first party AAA games.

I agree like MGS4, Gow 3, Resistance and Killzone. But xbox 360 has allot of hits that time especially Gears of war and Forza, that is why its neck to neck with xbox 360, but the later part of ps3 life it really took off with Uncharted 2 and Last of us 1.

The Ps3 and Xbox 360 neck to neck battle is legendary. And we got great games from both that era like Gears of war, Forza, God of war 3, Uncharted 2, Last of us, mgs4, killzone, resistance, Halo, etc.

Single player was always a larger segment

Sony closed Neon Koi and Firewalk, but made LFG a new studio branched off from Bungie.

The graphic in general is largely patch work to begin with.

What makes San Diego Studio more of a live service studio than Polyphony Digital? I'm sure Dark Outlaw Games' new game will have live service elements, though it's great to see that their game will probably have a single player mode.

My advice to Sony would be to put all their live service studios into multi-genre.

Isn't Insomniac hiring for multiplayer? I know their next game Wolverine is single player, but whatever project after that may be live service focused.

Tried to explain to people that multiplayer =/= live service.

You have co-op and you have online multiplayer, but that doesn't make your game live service.

We know that one of their next games in their pipeline will be X-Men. So you might take what you have from the framework of Wolverine and make it co-op. Spider-Man 3 may be co-op, or even the next Ratchet and Clank game.

Do we know what Media Molecule are working on in that category? I've been wanting to see it for the longest.

If they're smart their next game would be LittleBigUniverse...
