I came across this, a dodgy-looking Zone 0 (any region) box set of all 5 seasons of Ren And Stimpy. It's a sponsored Amazon link - don't know if that gives it any credibility? But anyway, the price looks good, and I'm wondering if they might even be the completely uncut versions which are still eluding everyone. Anyone know anything about this set, or can harbour any guesses? I know that the quality went downhill after Season 2 when the creator got fired, but they're still very watchable IMO.

I just know that the internet lacks good screencaps (or any, for that matter) of Evil Ren, Hideously Evil Ren, and Apathy/Indifferent Ren.

If you can rectify this glaring problem with these dvds, I say go for it.

Bah! Ignore the screencaps... where may I find a sound file of Evil Ren's laugh/cackle? I would love that.

I would avoid that set. In a recent chat with John K. , he revealed that they're planning an "ultimate" Ren & Stimpy DVD set that will have more stuff than the old set as well as correcting the censorship on the previous "uncut" DVDs. I just wish they had done it right the first time...

John K.: I think APC is coming out at the end of the year. There is also an "Ultimate Ren and Stimpy" DVD set in the works. That's where they sell you stuff you already bought, but add some crap to it. Actually, I think that's the one that will have the animatics on it. And maybe on that one, they would let me do the artwork and cover - if they thought the fans would want that.

Didn't he say that there's no way of getting back the stuff that was lost though? I think he got all the content that they had stored and put it on the Season 1 & 2 set. It probably just has more interviews and stuff.

Gah, what I hate the most about DVDs (after scratches) is putting out better versions of things after they've already been bought. I haven't bought any R&S DVDs yet luckily, but goddam it it's such an old cartoon, you'd think they'd just get it out in one go.

Also, is the "Adult Party Cartoon" or whatever that he mentions in the chat any good? Oh, and what about the R&S episodes released just a couple of years ago? Were they done by John K or other people? Cheers.

Whoops, you're absolutely right. I misread it and thought they were going to correct some of the cuts. Talk about disappointing.

Yeah, the APC were done by John K. a few years ago for The New TNN channel. Some people loved them (like me), and others thought they weren't as good as the originals. They were billed as being truer to John K.'s vision of R&S because they would be uncut and untouched by the censors. And they were a lot more graphic and risque than the originals. But New TNN got cold feet and didn't air a bunch episodes due to "risque content". I think only around 4 episodes aired, and there's about that many more that still have yet to be seen. Hopefully they'll get released in they're uncut glory on DVD.

I see that site you linked to has all of the cut parts downloadable, which is cool. I might just wait until a definitive DVD collection is available before I buy anything. They can say they need the support, but there are two versions already and another one coming out, and I don't have that much money.
