Report: New Xbox Live Pricing Revealed

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=6365

August 30, 2005

Information made available to a French consumer site has revealed what seems to be the new U.S. pricing bundles for Xbox Live on the Xbox 360 console. Featuring what appears to be genuine box art, five different bundles are listed at various prices.

The 12 Month Premium Gold Pack listed on the site includes a 12 month Xbox Live subscription, an Xbox Live headset, a $20 money off coupon for Xbox 360 games, 200 points for the Xbox Live marketplace and access to the Xbox Live Arcade game Billiards. This is the most expensive of the five bundles, with a quoted price of $69.99.

A 3 month version of the Premium Gold Pack, costing $39.99 is also to be made available, with a headset, $10 coupon, 100 Xbox Live marketplace points and the Xbox Live Arcade game Joust.

Three variations of the existing Xbox Live subscription card are also detailed, with the most expensive being the $59.99 12 Month Gold Card, which gives 12 months of Xbox Live access, albeit at $10 more than the equivalent card for the original Xbox console. A $19.99 12 Month Gold Card and $7.99 1 Month Gold Card are also scheduled.

As previously detailed by Microsoft, an Xbox Live Silver subscription is available free to all Xbox 360 owners, but only allows them to log on to the service to use the marketplace and chat functions, with an Xbox Live Gold account needed to actually play games online. Microsoft has not yet officially confirmed pricing for its Xbox Live 360 subscriptions.

How about getting the gold pack for cheaper since you get a headset with the premium pack.

Its not to bad if you get the Tard pack. Still, I think $59.99 should be the max price.

Stupid.

I don't have much else to say.

Well im getting charged $49.99 at the end of the month for a years renewal ive been told via email from MS, so i assume this will work fine on 360, and i wont feel the price rise till next year.

Why is this spreading like wildfire? EB has had the XBL SKUs for a week now, 12 month card is still $49.99. They're not raising the price.

Meh... Increase in price for renewals apparently.

I really hope they put some dedicated servers now that games could potentially reach the 64+ number of players. This has been my biggest Xbox Live pet peeve. Great service, but lacking big time in dedicated servers.

Isnt $59.99 what it is now?

Without driving to work, I think it's that much (or maybe $10 more) for the bundle pack that has the card, the headset, and the game. $50 for the card/renewal thing.

So you use points on marketplace to buy things?

Good way of getting people to forget the actual cost of the skatepark they are buying.

Should be interesting to see how people look at Xbox Live if Rev and PS3 have free online setups with Xbox Live-like options.

Marketplace points? So what's going to be the entry level offering in this "Marketplace"? I haven't been following this part of the story very close.

It's like at the carnivals or beach boardwalks.

50 points will get you some gum
250 points will get you a rubber ball
1000 points will get you a stuffed animal
100,000 points will get you a PSP

150000 points - watch Velocity Girl get nekkid.

seriously though, I was curious what they were offering on day one. I guess no one really knows yet.

If you thnk about the 69.99 pack is cheaper

You are not going ot buy no games for Xblive so u buy 1 game and save 20 bucks

thats 69.99-20.00 = 49.99

so its really the same if not better.

Price of your X360 at launch with games, back compat and online? $1000
Having enough marketplace points to get that Hello Kitty gamercard skin?

Priceless. :lol

Its 20 dollars off a games purchase.

12 month XBL subscription
- A communicator headset
- Xbox Live arcade game: "Billiards"
- $20 discount on a games purchase
- 200 points in the XBL marketplace

So that makes it cheaper/same.

Wait. This means the premium pack buyers are getting owned. There better be some hot shit with coupons in the premium pack box. Especially if they raise the fee to $59.99. Hope it doesn't happen, but who knows.

They need to either switch Joust and Billiards, or let people choose the XBL Arcade game they'll have access to for themselves. (It is supposed to be 'all about choice', after all--letting me choose a game I'd actually want to play as my bonus for signing up for a year would be a nice place to start. :p )

Yeah. I thought I read somewhere that there would be promotional weekends for online play.

I've got like three 12 month sub cards, does that mean they won't work anymore?
Damn, that's a good question. Has MS even commented if current subscriptions carry over next gen?
