This political ad is about to begin playing in Kentucky and other battleground states. Its a pretty bold ad, and I'd be curious to hear GAF responses to this ad.

It is definitely taking advantage of a building paranoia in this country regarding Ebola, and it smells of desperate politics. But damn is it effective.

This might be the most impactful and well-timed ad I've seen in a few election cycles, but I'd be curious to see what other GAFers think are more impactful political ads.

EDIT: Article from TPM on the ad itself

It's poorly made and fear mongering to boot.

They do kill and are extremely harmful, but focusing on ebola is laughable.

tl;dr its trash

This is the first time I've seen an ad by Democrats that was as poorly edited and fear-mongering as the ones by the Republicans.

It's not wrong in that the CDC's funding as been cut. It's budget was cut because it wasn't actively fighting any diseases, thus the people in power felt it didn't need the money to prevent anything. Now that a disease is in the country, the organization is underfunded to properly combat it.

Politics as usual.

It's a "great" (in quotes because the situation is terrible) ad that shows the consequences of the bullshit republicans have pulled over the years.

Good lord is that disingenuous. The republicans do enough wrong that you don't need to make up stuff, like they're responsible for Ebola killing poor black people.

Atrocious ad. But seeing Neogafs sociopath libertarian side coming out is always alarming (outside of PD who is just trolling). THE SIDES ARE ALL THE SAME VOTE RON PAULLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Holy fuck... this can't be real, can it?
It's real in the sense that some group calling itself "The Agenda Project" has spent 20 minutes of an intern's time cutting it together and posting it to YouTube. Whether it's real in the sense that it's playing on air anywhere, is anyone's guess.

Wow, what do you have against Ron Paul? He's a Great American who has vowed to stop our country's imperialism and drug war.

All's fair in love & war. The GOP uses this tactic nonstop with the military budget . . . anytime anything happens in the world they start complaining about cuts to the military. So much so that we are at the point where our military budget is like the size of the next 10 countries combined (most of those are our allies). What's wrong with pointing out that there are other dangers that also need funding?

That said, I don't think it will be very effective. Sadly, most Americans are not going to care at all about black people dying in Africa. :-/

I am hoping this doesn't turn in to a political thread, but if it does, here are the three opinions you will see:

The Republicans are wrong, the Democrats are right!
The Democrats are wrong, the Republicans are right!
Both parties are like literally totally the same guys, am I right!?

There. I saved you some time.

WTF - video currently has like / dislike ratio of 238 / 294.

Current Republican Party would be quite happy to cripple many government organizations, through defunding (except the military...), if it meant yet more profits for it's donors (Corporations and the super rich)... Democrats are not much better (also beholden to big money donors, but not in the same league).

Any GAFer who is happy with this state of affairs needs to think again. Money is destroying the U.S. political system and until its influence is drastically reduced, our government is never going to represent what's best for the vast majority of Americans and the World as a whole.

Pretty terrible ad that sets themselves up for attacks.

CDC has a budget of almost 7 billion dollars. They aren't exactly hurting for money. They spend roughly 1.3 billion a year on "preparedness" for bioterrorism. A noble cause but I am sure they could realistically drop that down to a much lower figure and spend funds on other things.
They spend more on Bioterrorism preparedness than they do for any particular disease prevention.

On top of that the AD starts with a blatant mistruth. 2010 Budget for the CDC was so high because the Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009 pumped 800 million dollars into the CDC above the usual budget. remove the temporary boost and budgets pretty inline with the usual

That assumes that facts matter. To about half the electorate, facts don't matter. Only feels matter. And the republicans have, for every election but 2006 and 2008, locked down the feels of the feels-only electorate for the past 20 years.

I think ads like these are provocative and inaccurate and probably necessary.

Quite bold, but it's basically true even if the ad in and of itself is poorly edited and hyperbolic (especially showing people dying who aren't even from the US -- that's incredibly stupid imagery).

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

The core message isn't really politics as usual -- it's the truth. The GOP's completely perverse obsession with cutting every single thing they can get their hands on (with the sole exception of the military) poses a huge threat to our country's ability to deal with a crisis.

The ad sucks, unfortunately.

It has a valid point about the impact of cuts and the danger about talking about them in the abstract, but it's really crudely made and fuel the Ebola panic.

The greatest troll satan ever pulled was convincing others that he was not trolling.
PD is most certainly not the greatest troll.
