Resident Evil 2 with Path Tracing Mod & DLSS 4.5 | Graphics Comparison

  • This mod uses Reframework and some adjustments made with Nvidia Inspector.
  • Although the game isn't optimized for path tracing, there are some areas with substantial improvements.
  • Currently, there is no option to use Ray Reconstruction or any other denoiser, which causes artifacts, primarily in light reflections.
  • To reduce this effect, DLSS 4.5 with DLAA is running at native 4K using a 5090p.
  • I hope Capcom will consider officially implementing this technology in the future, as with a polished result, there could be a substantial graphical leap.

No. You need a powerful graphics card to run path tracing. There is no way around
I can attest to this. My 4080 isn't a slouch, and it would not be able to handle path tracing without DLSS and frame generation, or at least the average frame rate would be below what I consider playable.

I hope someday these modders can find a way to inject ray reconstruction into these games to help the denoising and performance. That said, I'm not about to mess with my RE2R install just for this as much as I love path tracing with my 5090. I'm still on the legacy version before the RT reflections patch because it yields significantly more performance for the same visuals (ray tracing aside.) if CAPCOM or a modder can get this going with ray reconstruction I'd probably give it a go. It's funny to see the same bugs here as with RE9 dealing with low poly BVH versions of meshes having broken shadows. I wonder why this happens.

It looks nice but I still don't think RT and especially PT is worth the hit to performance especially as somebody with a mid tier GPU (4070S).

Pre baked lighting can still look amazing if done by talented artists.

You can inject ray reconstruction into UE5 at least. It's helped with titles like Silent Hill 2.
