Resident Evil 4 - Got it, some questions...

Right now I'm still hating the controls, but forcing my way...just going into the first village, and all the people go batshit and come after me. I've got a little stockload of ammo, some grenades, all that.

Now...uh...I get in the building that triggers the cutscene, and Chainsaw Man comes out. I peg him repeatedly with the shotgun, but to no avail. Headshots do NOTHING to him, it seems. What the hell do I have to do to keep him down? I've tried headshot shotgunning, fire grenades, knifing to the back when he's down, and nothing works...

As well, do I have to kill all the people, or just kinda survive until I trigger a cutscene?

Behold the brilliance that is Resident Evil 4. They're not Zombies this time around, which means like us living people, they can take several shot gun hits to the face and chest.

Just keep at him. Eventually he'll die and drop a tonne of loot. But it's gonna take A SHITLOAD of shotgun shells to take him out. Headshots DO work though. They take more damage off him than just plain ol' body shots.

So keep at it. KILL HIM.

I was playing the other day, to try to show a friend the chainsaw man, and made it through that scene without even seeing him (I didn't go in that building). So it must be a time-elapse/number of kills thing. Somebody who knows for sure will post soon enough, though.

I usually bear left the whole way until that lady sees me, then it's all survival from that point.

Edit: Crap people are fast.

Oh, headshots still do good damage to him but he's a very strong enemy. So use only the shotgun on him and multiple enemies. It is advised to take those guys down once you see them because you are rewarded 10000 coins worth of cash. Just use the shotgun when he gets close enough.

Surviving the village means to take out as many as possible while trying to stay alive, but remember to at least kill the chainsawer.

You can kill all the people or wait around until a cutscene is triggered.
My advice; don't run into that house. Its crazy hard taking him down with low-level weapons. Grenades work well.

Well, first of all, ignore everyone who posted above me. They're all wrong and non-trustworthy. Anyway..

Dont be green about killing people. Go batshit insane and shoot anything walking. The chainsaw guy meanwhile, just shoot a lot of shells. Basically, everytime I found myself in a jam or wondered if there was any strategy to something I was trying to get past, I realized this was RE4. Shoot the damn gun. It unlocks doors, kills bosses, opens up the right path in mazes :lol

As far as the gameplay and camera view, it begins a little akward and gets better once you get used to it. Eventually it's a real joy though. Felt the same way about MGS3's system and camera. Just a bit of a learning curve and then it's easy as can be.

you guys never went into the building because of the chainsaw guy? FUCKING WEAKSAUCE

the chainsaw guy has massive hitpoints. you need to hit him lots of times if you want to kill him. and when you do, you're rewarded with a hefty sum of pesetas!

Just as a heads up, there's another chainsaw guy hanging out at the end of a path near that big tower in the village. He won't come after you unless you go over there, though.

And don't let him attack you. :lol

*watches the 70MB video of all the ways you can die in RE4. :D *

:lol at this thread.

Open up a can of whoop ass on him. I did.

I don't think I've ever seen someone complain about RE4 as much as Matlock is in here. :D

Damn right! You can actually kill him twice by running to the big gate where you are supposed to go after the nasties go to church (he should be there with 2 flunkies) and then run into the house and he'll be back for more!

Edit: GoutPatrol and Vlad beat me to it ;p I advise throwing a flash grenade while hes revving up, then use a incendiary on him and shoot his head loads of times with the pistol while hes down on the floor.

The shotgun works wonders. 1 or 2 shots up close will down him and you can fire away while he's down. Remember the shotgun is much more damaging up close since it "sprays" the shell over a wide range.

To survive the initial onslaught, it works well to go in the house across from the house that triggers the chainsaw man cutscene. You can barricade the door with a desk and blast the villagers through the door.

Dang, now I feel like playing RE4. See ya.

That guy's got nothing on the dual wielding chainsaw bitches from hell. Those things are a damned pain in the ass in mercenaries mode.

(unless you use the masked guy, since you can conviniently snap their necks)

Heh.. same thing happens to me. Every time I read a RE4 thread, someone always mentions some part that I want to play again. I swear, that has to be the most consistent game I've ever played. It's just one good part after another.

I usually just go onto the outer roofs and keep pushing the ladder down as he tries to climb up. If he comes through the house... grenades. But there's no substitute for a proper scolding.

Sorry, no. I think I got it from yousendit, but there's no way I'm uploading it, with my 20-30KBps upload which seems to be several times slower on yousendit. :(

Whatever you do, don't avoid fighting him because fighting chainsaw guy is SO FUCKING GREAT. And it's just like that throughout the whole game.

Best title this gen.

Not only that, but compared to some of the stuff you fight later, chainsaw guy is a bit of a pushover. Best get the practice now.

...and I took the road less traveled by. And then I took the road more traveled by. And I killed every last one of them until their
tentacles
exploded. And that has made all the difference.

I was planing to take both paths but forgetton because I kept pushing forward, now it's too late to go back. I hate missing goods and kickass fights.

Just curious but which path did you take?

The one with the villagers and two chainsaw chicks. Bitches cut my head clean off the first time while I was busy fending one of them in front of me and didn't notice the second flanking me. But I killed them good the second try. Didn't give them a chance to stay a top that long by shooting them to the ground and knocking the latters down. I killed them all good I did.

You're weaksauce if you cant kill the chainsaw guy, ESPECIALLY when you have the shotgun.

Just keep shooting at him and run, also you can shoot at him till he falls down, then throw an incendiary or explosive grenade on him.

Still, weaksauce. :P

P.S. - :P

Go to the back where you can't be surrounded. Let them come to you and pick them off at a distance. That's the easiest way to own them.

Nah, don't bother using the grenades, save it for latter.

There is a place on the roof of the building to the right where you got the shotgun that villagers can't flank you. You can just wait for them to come at you. Mastering the art of head or leg shots into a kick combo makes it all managable, you should have more than enough shotgun shots to take the chainsawer down. If you are more daring wait for more villagers to group together behind the chainsawer before you blast him in the face up close, they fly away nicely.

The best part of the battles in RE4 is finding the places where you can't be surrounded. practically every area with enemies has one.

Even in the cabin in the village where the chainsaw guy comes running at you, you can just run around the side of the building and pick them off as they run at you. It's so narrow there's a good chance they'll fall off the side of the cabin.

Come on man, half the fun is being surrounded.

So frantic and thrilling.

I remember playing the demo version and being completely unable to survive once I reached the village. Chainsaw guy kept slicing me.

I need to go and finish my second play through of that game... once I finish the backlog.
