Resident Evil 4 - Got it, some questions...

regenerator.jpg

Hey look! It's Matlocks mom!

The cricket type enemy's were pretty scary too at some point.

now I mow them down with my typewriter like there ain't no tomorrow

Haha, and that chief battle was really easy except in the late fight when he was hard to track...then it was just annoying.

Fuck the tram, tho. Fuck it HARD.

Tram was okay if you used the shot gun. Widespread shot and the fact than any little hit would cause em to fall off helped.

Village chief Round one was easy, Round two was harder, especially with his one hit kill.

...! Never thought to use the shotgun, didn't think it would kill them with a stray pellet. Oh well. :lol

IMO, the sniper rifle's your best bet on that tram. All of the enemies always fall off after one hit, and a single shot can go through all of the ones on one car if you aim right.

Anyone else here think
Salazars right-hand man was the hardest boss?
freeze him and send a rocket his way?
easiest boss in the game ;)

i used the rifle too. alternated between shotgun, rifle and opportunistic grenade throws.

Use the sniper rifle to shoot the guys that jump onto the tram before you even get off the tram. Then yes, shotgun works well there. I remember having a hard time with it the first time around.

And yes, the right hand,
Verdugo is the hardest...well maybe not hardest but toughest boss in the game. He has so much hit points, and at that point of the game you probably JUST got the broken butterfly so it'll be weak. So it'll take a whole lot of shooting to take him down. They give you the option of escaping that boss battle for a reason.

I didn't even bother trying to kill him, figured most people would have just kept running and dodging until you could get out of there.

Try looking under Ashley's skirt!

(Best way to do this is let her stand on an upper platform, go down and look up! :-)
That's really great!

has anyone here not bought new weapons? I've stuck with original handgun, TMP+Stock, shotgun and rifle+scope the whole way through so far. I've just upgraded them all.

haven't bought the better rifle, shotgun, magnum or mine thrower. was this a good idea or should i have been buying all those weapons instead of upgrading the standard first weapons from the start of the game? the exclusive upgrade for the handgun is nice (chance on critical headshot * 5) :)

BTW, the 2nd time around (restarted the game all over) I didnt take the shot gun with me. It just took up too much space and I had to leave behind lots of valuable ammo. It was pure hand gun and tmp (for the village chief) before i picked up the next level shotgun in the castle.

If you're at the exclusives already I guess they're is no point to selling them. But you should get a magnum (you can get one for free but you probably missed it). I would get the better rifle so there isn't a 3 second break per shot plus disorientation (but the reload looks so cool). Saving the original shotgun is a good idea until the Striker is available. Mine Thrower is something you buy, laugh using it a couple of times, and then turn off the game without saving.

I'm playing professional mode, and I just kept the regular shotgun and that free handgun without upgrading them all the way until the castle. Then I sold those two weapons, and bought the new handgun, shotgun, and rifle, and upgraded them as much as I could (I've still got 100,000 dollars left over. :) )

I did a "No Merchant" run where I prevented myself from making ANY dealings with the merchant whatsoever. This meant I could only use weapons that I found lying around and I couldn't upgrade any of them. This was actually easier than my handgun run. I do all of these little challenges on proffessional mode which imo is the "Real" game. My ultimate goal is to beat RE4 using just one of every weapon in the game. I've already done the Handgun, Red9, Punisher and TMP on Pro Mode. I think the Bolt Rifle will be the hardest to beat the game with because of its inanely slow firing rate. I find the challenge insanely fun but I just hope they make a RE4Rmx where they add new difficulty levels with more enemies and the
Double Chainsaw Guys
in single player. I have no idea why they decided not to put them in the main game.

I'm sticking with Red 9/stock, TMP/stock, shotgun, and some grenades here and there.

I might consider buying a more powerful shotty or smg, but I dunno.

While that may be true, nothing beats the pure pavlovian reward inherent in the shotgun--pull trigger, watch people explode into a fine red mist. :D

Just kind of disappointed that you can't buy ammo at the merchant, wtf.

You can, sorta. Use your gun until you're out of ammo and don't reload it. Then go to the merchant and upgrade your guns ammo capacity. Free bullets! I always did that for the magnum.

You don't have a rifle? Are you mad?

Seriously, get one. And lose the TMP, it's shite. Well, some seem to like it but I don't have a clue why.

*stand in front of El Gigante*

*aim at face*

*unload TMP*

*El Gigante dies*

Yeah, same here. Magnum bullets are so rare, I don't bother manually reloading and only use it when I have to (pretty much only boss fights), so I save the bullets I find and get the free reload on upgrade.

Since I found lots of TMP bullets I kept the gun, and unload like hell on swarms of people trying to rush me, it help me keep a balance between my shotgun usage latter on.

Well why would you use a rifle in a situation where you need speed anyway? Hell I keep it just to look ahead like a pair of binoculars.

Get the semi-auto rifle when it's available then, that'll solve your speed issues.

EDIT: TMP bullets? Oh yeah, I remember. I just called it free money.

The rifle is far too slow for my needs. I only bought it, then resold it after the tram ride.
Err... you did buy the scope for it right? You weren't just using it like a normal gun were you?

And the TMP is good against the Chief guy when he's in half, if you don't know the trick of that boss fight. Makes him "shiver" after 10 shots or so, which helps out.

How does RE4 look with the component cables? I read it's in 480p so I may pick up some cables if it looks really good.

Or I may just wait for the PS2 version since I already have it set up.

LakeEarth said:

Yes, and no. Used it for the tram bit, found it inadequate for my needs, and traded it back in for a shotty.

Didn't know about the TMP trick in that bossfight, just watched him climb around, then pointblanked a shell into his face when he cocked back for an attack. :D

Well you really really need a sniper weapon for some parts coming up. Without it is gonna be pretty hard. The rifle is only to be used when no one's around you anyways so I still don't get the slow comment.

When I can spot a dot on a guy from far away, make a quick adjust, and snap him with my red 9...wellllll...

Well sometimes they're far off. It's not impossible to beat the game without the sniper, but some parts will be harder. Make it in the castle yet?

I would like to know where I stand in RE4 in regards to guns. How many guns did you guys hold in the game after a while?

Screw Black, RE4 is gun porn! So satisfying to shoot in this game, I think trying different ones out is more fun than artificial limitations!

Matlock said:
Just got there, at the firey boulder catapault part, not sure yet how to get through it.

The rifle is very handy for this part.

I usually held on to a pistol, a shotgun, and a rifle. My first time through the game I ended up with the last types of each of those, simply because I always wanted to see what the new thing offered was :).

I didn't really bother with the TMP, as I found that per shot, it just wasn't as strong as some of the other weapons.

Behold the brilliance that is Resident Evil 4. They're not Zombies this time around, which means like us living people, they can take several shot gun hits to the face and chest.

You obviously don't have a clue about the game. They're not zombies but they're not normal people either. How many normal people do you know that are controlled by evil parasites?

Around 3 guns average huh?

After a while near the end I bogged down myself with the Blacktail, TMP, Striker, semi-auto rifle, and Broken Butterfly. It sure made things like space for genades and sometimes ammo troublesome, but then I felt like a walking armory with like 11 full health items included. Total badass!

Youll need the second rifle later on. The first rifle I never used cause it took up too much space. Wait till you get to the castle.

People actually avoided going into the cabin in the opening village because of the chainsaw guy? :lol That's one of the best parts of the game. Just barricading the door and then watching him chew through it as if it were nothing. He's not that hard to kill either. Just throw a gernade at him when he's on the ground and it should soften him up quite a bit.

Now that I am all caught up, I never used the TMP at all. I always sold off the ammo as well. First tiime I used it was in the
shooting gallery
and found it pretty useless so I stayed away from it. I bought the red9 and stock before the cabin fight with Luis and kept for almost the entire game. Such an excellent weapon and has a great reload animation. Same thing for the bolt-actin rifle. I knew I could have upgraded to the semi-auto but my current rifle was already upgraded qutie a bit and I didn't see the point in switching. Of course I went back through and purchased every last gun on subsuquent plays. Every gun has it's own distinct feel and it's a blast to play around with any of them.

The semi-auto rifle was a keeper for me. Such power and being able to shoot multiple shots in a row before reloading rules! That and the monsters you would face later on...

Yeah, the semi-auto was brilliant. I ended up switching later in the game on my first run just because the enemies seemed to be moving faster than my reticule so those extra seconds in between shots really helped. I sold my bolt-action rifle for so many pesetas though.

Pfff, so it's function is to make the game less fun?

I dunno about that. I only discovered it by accident.
the second path with the El Gigante, I for some reason didn't see him coming and when he busted out it scared the crap out of me! I actually screamed at the TV! I currently had the TMP equiped and in the heat of moment I forgot I could switch weapons. I was just screaming at my TV "AAAAAAAAAA FUCK AAAAAA" while unloading the TMP into the guys face.
It was the most instense moment in my entire gaming life. so I don't know if I'd say that makes the game less fun.
I still had to climb the guys back and stab the parasite that comes out. Then repeat the TMP to the face buisness a few times

Same with me. Never used the TMP ever.

I also stuck with the bolt action rifle. While the automatic was nice in that it could fire faster, it was far more squirrelly than the bolt action.
