Resident Evil 4 Sales Thread

Don't worry, it will be bought. But like ToS, Japanese might be willing enough to wait out a whole year to do so.

Thanks for that useful comment.

I can't see it suddenly selling a million on PS2 in Japan when it's struggling to match RE Zero sales so far.

That really is quite poor.

It isn't also particularly encouraging to see on sites such as Amazon.com, EBGames etc that GTA:SA has jumped back above RE4 in weekly (daily?) sales...

:-(

You know I was joking right? I think people are overreacting.

So a RE4 bomb is coming for January NPD also? The bad news never ends.

I wouldn't say a bomb. But no press releases from Capcom- "half a million Resident Evils sold in...." or whatever.

GTA:SA will do 200-250k in Japan and RE4 has been ahead most the month with some likely big launch few days, so 300-350k may be a possiblity. It needs to / should / deserves to do soooo much more though!

I wonder what Cubers do with their GC. I mean, title after title seem to sell less than expected. Especially the killer-aps, which is a little worrying. Have they all abandon it or what?

One theory I had a long time ago is that the GC suffers from being an alternative console. No one has the stats, but I think a bulk of the GC owners are multi-console owners and that hurts the GC when there's so much other software out there or if a port is announced.

In RE4's case I think the word of mouth is spreading about other console versions, but if you OWN a GC I see no reason to wait for the PS2 version that comes out 9 months later.

Maybe its release date in January will have negative effects too...
I think that a release on Christmas period, along with GTA and Halo, would have achieved much better results

The tie ratios aren't much lower than the other systems; at least not in the US. Definitely more concentrated into first-party titles, though.

Those of us who own GCs usually play videogames. You know, it's a videogame console. It plays videogames.

I'd like to think that I could come up with a better retort, but your comment is just so retarded that I don't even know if it's possible.

EDIT: Nevermind, just understood the purpose of your comment. I thought you were implying that those of us who own one should bury it or something because the games don't sell enough. As if to say that if the games were selling more, we would develop a shrine or something.

Not really shocked if that's true.

Nintendo really has zero foothold with older gamers (which would be the core audience for a game such as RE4).

That audience is almost strictly PS2 or XBox only these days.

The N64 had some success with GoldenEye selling 6.5 million copies and Turok 2 amassing over 2 million in North America alone IIRC, but with GameCube it looks like all these people have moved on to the PS2 or XBox.

In Japan, its probably been close to a decade since a third party game on a Nintendo console has come close to selling a million copies. Over there, Nintendo consoles are now known primarily as niche game machines strictly for Nintendo's own software.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves !!

No official figures have yet been released, in the US especially.

I hope it can reach a million in the US, it at least derserves that much.

i think we shouldnt get scared about the sales from today. there are over 20 games released today in japan. and 90 k copies in one day isn´t so bad, perhaps resi4 can reach 200k (or more) in the first week. sales in the past shows us that cube games sold good for a long period of time...

sorry for my english !!

You make a fair point. RE4 will have legs, and half a million in japan still isn't out of reach if it's done in the region of 100k on day 1.

It is still pretty disappointing though- as is the fact they only shipped 150k?

Very low estimates. Some of you should be ashamed for having no faith. Resi 4 has been top of Famitsu's most wanted since it was announced - Its going to explode in Japan. I'm going for atleast 600,000 in the first week in Japan.

Total sales

Japan - 1.5 Million
US - 1.6 Million
Europe - 1.2 Million
Are there even 1.5M GC owners in Japan? :lol And it won't sell nearly that many in EU either. The US is the only place Capcom should hope to sell that many. PEACE.

looks like the thread starter was off with Japan, what a shame, but I wouldn't be surprised with 1 million+ in the US after a few months, then there is always this holiday season + Player's Choice to help out...

If Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker can do 1.5 million+, so can RE4 hopefully...

I think it was some analyst company that had predicted the 1.7 million shipped world-wide, and I think they were expecting better Japan #'s...

hopefully the US can make up the difference, cause I definitely thing 1.7 (or was it 1.8) million shipped is definitely possible because of how great the game is and the fact that at least there is a new Zelda on the way so maybe people will pick up some of the more popular GCN games...

I love looking at old threads and looking at how reactions changed as information on the sales came in.

:lol

Total meltdown after Japan sales came in low, but the topic died right before the reassurance of the NPD numbers came in (320k for January).
