Resident Evil |OT| Wow. What a mansion!

Welcome to the Resident Evil OT for the Community section.

Beginning in 1996 this survival horror series took the world by storm starting with the original game in the series. Taking place in the Spencer Mansion S.T.A.R.S. team Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, and Barry Burton are sent to investigate bizarre cannibalistic murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City and become trapped in the thought to be abandoned mansion. Of course, we know there's a lot more to the story than that. This game popularized what is now known as the survival horror genre with emphasis on survival, item management, puzzles and tight claustrophobic corridors filled with the undead.

The original game was also known for it's awkward dialogue, which provided many funny quotes and moments which still get referenced and live on even today. One of which I used for my OT title. Barry Burton became known for one of the most famous quotes with the Jill sandwich line.

The game unsettled players with its incredible atmosphere and scares which stick with people even today. The most famous of them all:

Later in the series with the introduction of Resident Evil 4 in 2005 the franchise began to take a more action orientated approach. With over the shoulder gunplay and faster paced style gameplay and combat. Zombies would take a backseat in favour of more unique enemy types. Including the most frightening of all:

This switch in style would divide fans of the series, but Capcom has since returned to their roots of sorts with the muchly anticipated remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3. Although the latter didn't recieve as warm of a reception on launch, the remake of the second game was regarded a huge success with many fans of the series loving the return to more classic gameplay with more emphasis on the survival aspects the franchise became known for.

Capcom's latest mainline games have taken the series in another new direction which has also recieved mixed responses from fans. The games have retained some of their classic elements whilst opting for a first person view.

Over the course of the franchise there has been less emphasis on zombies, so that is why myself and many others likely gravitate towards the older titles. I enjoyed the new games as standalone horror titles, but in a a lot of ways they didn't really grab me as Resident Evil games. Although, I feel Resident Evil 7 was the stronger of the two. It gave me vibes of more old school gameplay despite the change in gameplay perspective. The Baker family were also very interesting additions and well-acted.

Over the course of the series there has been many villains, with perhaps the most popular being Nemesis. An intelligent, strong and powerful tyrant determined to take down the last remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. in Resident Evil 3 the character would be hot on the tail of Jill Valentine which made for some very tense gaming moments and boss battles.

Another popular favourite is Albert Wesker. Originally assumed to be on your team in the first game, he becomes one of the central villains of the series. Especially Resident Evil 5 where you face him many times. Hell bent on power and control.

If it's Resident Evil related, feel free to discuss it here. That includes everything from the games, movies, TV and novels/comics. Also don't be shy about sharing fan art or whatever else you find interesting.

Thats one lame ass OP

Gotta agree not only with the quality of OT but the choice of character(Leon RE4 lol).

Theres no wrong choosing either Jill of Chris. My choice though is Jill. Sturdy and smart character, never tried to be that badass (like doing karateka or cheesy Hollywood moves)but shes still badass on her own, and defeating Nemesis is no easy task. Sad about RE3 remake though, lowass game, rather stick with the original. Pure quality game.

Shame RE series lost its identity long ago. RE1, RE3 and RE1 remake will be treasured forever.

I realise RE4 Leon isn't a popular take, but it's my personal opinion and I've really enjoyed him in all of the games. Except maybe Resident Evil 6 because that was very action orientated, more-so than 4 and I didn't care for it very much.

I do love Chris and Jill a lot. Especially Jill in RE1 Remake. It's one of my favourite games. I enjoyed replaying it many times to unlock everything.

This is my first OT in a while, so apologies if it isn't up to standard. As I've said, I'm more than open to improving it with help from others.

No worries on both personnal preference or OT. It just needs more juice.

Talk about the story of RE(doesn't need to be history channel boring stuff), talk about characters+villains(while giving your personnal take), the main thing about RE that differs from the rest and perhaps some medias and/or trivias.

No worries at all. I appreciate you guys pushing me to make it better.

I've made a couple of tweaks and used the wiki to make sure it's correct. I've tried to go over the history of the games a bit better. I'll continue to work on it.

lol the OT is fine Sidney Prescott Sidney Prescott , just take your time and add a little bit everyday if you want to improve it, thats what i did for the back 4 blood OT. within a couple weeks it'll look all snazzy. most people wouldnt have even taken the time to do what you did.

and my favorite character is jill because of them tig ol bitteeeehhhhs. lol no jk. RE3 was me and my buddys favorite RE growing up, and just one of our favorite games in general. we would even set up our lego towns and characters to look like RE3 and chase each other around the house saying "STARS" and "braaiiinnss".

it became my summer game after it released and i would get up everyday and wait for my mom to go to work so i could fire up RE3 in the living room and be scared af lol. playing RE3 is one of my fondest video game memories growing up and itll always be a special game for me. so i guess its less about jill and more about the game itself, but just by default, all the hours i spent running around with her and avoiding nemesis and mixing ammo powders, makes her my fave.

i still have yet to play the RE3 remake bc i heard its short, plus the zombies were pissing me off in RE2 remake with their "from across the room" long lunges, and sometimes doing 2 or 3 lunges in a row, and being able to take literally 8 headshots before going down, so i decide i had enough of RE remakes for a while... ill get to it one day

I played Code Veronica quite late and it's up there as one of the best Resident Evil games. Classic RE and Claire is a great protogonist. Quite a lengthy game as well with a good story.

I was pleasantly surprised by it.
I'm a huge fan of Code Veronica even with all its oddities That was one hell of a game. I played it late as well, about four years ago I bought it on the Xbox 360 and chipped away at it. Toughest RE game IMO

Think about how it would play with the Capcom remake treatment...it's going to be modern classic if they decide to bring the game to fans one more time. This is the game that brought the large scale mission appeal to the series. It was Resident Evil 4 that would use the underpinning that Resident Evil Code: Veronica created and nearly perfect it; the Village to Castle transition was perfect but Castle to Island transition could have been better. Fully believe that Resident Evil Code: Veronica has the most potential when it comes to the atmosphere and theatrics that could be added to the game. That would be one hell of a remake to experience, maybe even on the level of Resident Evil 2 Remake

Dude, if they could nail a Code Veronica Remake like they did with RE2, I'd be totally down.

I'm actually playing through Resident Evil 2 Remake now, and I finally have got in to it after all these years. It took me getting over the initial hump with Mr. X and the lickers. Enjoying it a lot.

I’d love to see what they add / change / remove in the remake. It would be the first time we could see both Chris and Claire in the same game with modern day graphics, would be epic. The game itself was already outstanding, where the original would benefit the most would be theatrical revisions; all they need to do is nail the cutscenes and it’s another modern classic from Capcom

I’m maybe 50% through RE2 Remake, will come back for it. Mr. X is probably the craziest part about that game so far. I love that they decided to do that; can only imagine how insane it must have been on the original RE2 for N64 and PS1

Nice OT.

At one point my wife and I watched all the movies. Some of those later ones were horrible lol.
Thanks. :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

I like the first two movies. They are nothing like the games, but I at least enjoyed those ones. They didn't really stick with what the games were about aside from bringing some known characters in to it.

Alice was their own creation, but Milla Jovovich does a good job playing her. I think the first movie had the right blend between action and horror, but the later ones were super cheesy.

Yes I legit liked part 1. Part 2 was average and then the rest were forgettable.

Yo, finally a Resident OT.

Longtime fan here, my love for the games started with getting RE2 as a present from my aunt. Had to mod my console as it was a NTSC game. I was waaay to young to play (10 in 2k) but my dad was ok with it (as he already fried my brain with Silent Hill and RE was really tame in comparison).
I fell in love with it, a perfect gamecin my opinion and i still do yearly playthroughs.

Since then i played the PS1 trilogy, the shitty Gun Survivor, got REmake, Code Veronica and 4 for my Gamecube, RE: Outbreak for PS2, tried 5 (but didn't like it...), skipped 6. Even found a copy of Gaiden for the GBC in my local second hand shop. Loved RE: Revelations (a beautiful 3DS game) and the RE2 Remake ❤️
Like you OP i like the older titles more. Tank controls, zombies and a less convoluted story are my game.

Even though i love RE i waited till i get my hands on a PS VR before i made my first RE VII playthrough. And i'm super happy i did. Mostly unspoiled after all those years. This is the first time i'm fealing a nice tingling when i need to go through the mansions rooms.

My favorite character would be Leon from RE2. Yeah, first game etc. Really felt for him when he got that shitty first day at his job 🤷🏻‍♂️

So, finished RE VII in VR. Holy shit what a ride. But i need to be honest that the game has some pacing issues and it has it's ups and downs. The Baker mansion is fsntadtic, the swamp place is good, but then it goes a bit down hill. It picks back up at the boat section but the mines 😐

Eh, better than 5 and 6, and thankfully the dlc is awesome. Blackjack in VR is amazing
