'Resident Evil' Series to Get a Reboot

Good fucking christ, I wish Hollywood would suffer some sort of credit crunch-esque megacrisis that would make them re-examine their quite appalling lack of creativity.

Personally I'd rather see the movie series dropped, but a reboot couldn't make things any worse.

First step is to get rid of Jovovich and the Alice arc. All it accomplishes is to make Jovovich smuggier than ever, and the Alice arc basically shits on the story established in RE vidygames, which was pretty crap anyway so the movies really outdid themselves. I mean seriously, you got all this zombie shit, umbrella and survival and what they do is do "ALICE IS A SUPER HUMAN, SHE IS TOTALLY AWESAOME AND EVERYBODY WANTS HER". Let's get rid of super humans and make it so the story is concentrating on survival and discovering what the shit is happening. Second step is to slow the movie down. Get rid of super fast cuts and stupid action scenes and heavy metal that only Halo fans will like.

Second step is to put slander against Jovovich on twitter, because she is totally smug.

Zombies, mutants, t-virus, nemesis, b movie plots, bad dialogue, one dimensional characters, plot holes, etc.... seem to be emulating the games fairly well in spirit.
So pretty much every zombie movie ever made is Resident Evil in spirit?
Just look at the god awful CG Resident Evil movie.
The problem with the CG movie was that it looked like a Japanese Leon cosplayer had killed the real Leon, scalped him, and was wearing his hair like a hat.

The games pretty much ended after CODE: Veronica for me, after that it just wasn't RE anymore. Sounds whiny, but seriously, 4 and 5 are nothing like the rest. Argue that the series needed an overhaul, but I think it could have gotten an overhaul that stuck to the roots, which made it successful in the first place. I'd rather be isolated in a freaky fucking mansion with moaning zombies and puzzles to solve than Gears of War'ing up a thousand Ganado around every corner.

As for this reboot, lol, Jesus Christ. Reboot! 3D! Reboot in 3D! 3D allows absolutely shitty as hell movies like The Final Destination to be successful. If that isn't a sign of the celluloid apocalypse I'm not sure what is.

Also the cast sucked. Who the hell thought Jason O'Mara worked as Wesker? : /

He wasn't Wesker. No Chris Redfield for him to play off of, no diabolical dialogue and overacting, just... sitting at a boardroom table. Fuck that.

I'm glad that they're going to reboot it; they'll have even more chances to get it completely wrong.

It amazes me. Resident Evil, while campy and filled with absurd science, has a relatively solid mythos established and they come up with these horrible plots that have nothing to do with the games.

We all know that the games have relatively bad plots and dialogues. And, of course they wouldn't transition well to the big screen in a direct manner.

That said, the premise of the first Resident Evil game could still make for a decent movie. Just think about how chilling it is playing the REmake. All the film makers would need to do is put together a similar atmosphere and then just patch up the dialogue and make appropriate sequencing for all the events.

Resident Evil could somewhat resemble horror again. It just takes a little creativity.

Fuck, just make a movie that follows the same plot as one of the games (preferrably 4 plz)

These movies could be so awesome but they never are
Any of them would work but I think 4 lends itself a little better to film narrative. I say either the first RE or the fourth one.

The Resident Evil film needs a Chris Redfield vs Wesker showdown.

Copying the storyline from the games wouldn't be too bad. Heck, I found RE4's story enjoyable with the Illuminati and that.

A Resident Evil 5 movie would be nice.

Yeah. They just diverted too much from RE's core functions(on your playing level enemies, hard hitting unpredictable action sequences, and simple but connectable story) and have made it a generic sci-fi-ish apocalyptic type of movie with one known actress. Keep the characters, action, and start connecting the storyline back to the games. I mean Wesker should be a BIG part of the series by now....

You don't have to make a movie that directly follows the plot of the games, but at least include the fucking characters. The first Resident Evil would have worked just fine centering around Jill Valentine, and the second could have then followed her in the aftermath and been very RE3-esque. (Just, you know, cut out all of the "superhuman" BS.)

It really doesn't take much to build quality scripts off of pre-existing characters, and at least at that point there is some connection to the source material.

I think a Leon-focused movie based on RE4 with RE2 flashbacks would be sweet.

So the movie would just be Leon saying one-liners and kicking people while Ada flips around in the background?

Best....Movie....EVER!

I wish they did as everything was originally planned.

Hire Romero, and use his script. It was fucking epic. Such a shame they fucked it all up. =/

This right here!!!!! That script was fucking awesome.

Why do they even try to reboot the franchise?
You can't reboot a pile of steaming shit, you just can shit it again.

I mean the concept for RE Begins sounds exactly like the first movie wich's not even considered a classic!

Those greedy bastards in charge just want to pull some money from moviegoers who will recognize this turd as the "real" Resident Evil not to speak of the diehard RE fans who will see the movie anyway and then complain if it made enough profit to warrant a sequel or whatever.
