Revolution´s Official Name?

Nintendo X said:
Project Reality ----> Ultra 64 -----> Nintendo 64

The first two were codenames for N64, however, U64 was a arcade hardware, and codename for the system...Its sad, because it was more recognized more than N64 ever was, because some big names were powered by it.

Bzzztt.. wrong! Ultra 64 was the official name of the N64, in America. Nintendo couldn't get that copyright for the whole world though, so in the end they changed the name to Nintendo 64 so the system would have a universal name.

"Coming home in late 1995 - only on Nintendo ULTRA 64" :lol

Ah good old Killer Instinct arcade....still waiting 10 years later for the port btw. (yes I know there was KI Gold)

so when the hell did they announce the final name for gamecube? for a system that is launching in less than a year it is kind of odd they don't ahve a name for it.

My bet is that it stays with Revolution.

They announced the final name at Space World 2000.

it's not so bad, but perhaps it's a bit too hip?

I think it'd work pretty well if they market the device as a high-end toy, and not as a video game console.

Well, it's ahead of the 360 schedule.

I'm surprised no one has suggested (unless I missed it, sorry if so) that they'll follow the SP/DS thing. Nintendo RV (I like the look of it, but sounds like Harvey), Nintendo RS...something like that.

The name should NOT be Revolution.

It is far too complicated, ambiguous, and too long of a term for the mainstream.

Revolution is probably the best project name ever, but it would make a terrible final name. I mean, four syllables (count 'em!).

Re-vo-lu-tion

vs.
Three-sixty
Play-station
Game-cube
Sixty-four
Game-boy
Ex-box

Don't you get it? Even the name will be a revolution!!

Play-Stay-Tion
N-Six-ty-Four
Game-A-Cube :D
And the way you're splitting up your syllables it would be "Revo-lution" :p

Anyway, everyone will call it "Rev"

I dunno, I just want them to decide on a name so IGN can open up a dedicated channel. Then we can get more news.

- Of course, we didn't know about the "360" untill around April of this year.

And I think it was still a rumor then, wasn't it?

I'll throw another onw out...

Nintendo AC

AC stands for Animate Control.

Or how about....

Nintendo DC

DC stands for "Dynamic Control"

Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System.

I don't know why they got rid of the _____ Nintendo thing they had going on. Hell, even the N64 was initially the Nintendo Ultra 64.

You suck at syllables.

Really? I didn't remember that bit. I lost track on what happened to the Ultra 64 name.

Pardon me.

Nintendo's totally gonna mess it up. They have a possibly interesting premise going with a sleek design, and they're gonna go for a stupid name. Something like the Nintendo Wiggle Wand, is my expectation.

i think they should call it the Nintendo Entertainment System. No numbers, no subtitles... nothing. just the NES.

:)

GameCube 2
Super Gamecube
Gamecube turbo
Gamecube advance

Is the gamecube name really that tarnished?

Nintendo really need to either stick to the Gamecube name \ or create a new name that they can stick to over the generations. ( like gameboy, playstation and Xbox ) How are you meant to leverage a brand, if you continually change the name?

perhaps it won't be called a gamecube because it doens't look like a cube anymore?... :lol

Nintendo's biggest mistake was to abandon the NES name, really, after the SNES, they should have just called the N64 NES3, and the GameCube NES4.

This is something Sony understands and Nintendo doesn't, Nintendo still thinks that just having the Nintendo brand on the console is enough, when it is clearly not.

yeah, they managed to keep the Game Boy name for a while, though I'm not sure what the DS may mean for that brand now. it's too powerful a brand name to completely abandon but then I don't swallow this third pillar stuff from Nintendo either*

Hopefully they return to the NES name this time around.

*okay, that just doesn't sound right. swallowing nintendo's pillars? -_-;

My money is on Revolution too
you realise the revolution branding was removed from the latest shots of the rev at TGS? Not an absolute confirmation that they wont use the name, but it doesn't look good for those who want it to be called the Revolution.

Nintendo Famicom Revolution?

Nintendo Entertainment System Revolution? (NES-R)

Of course they tend to choose names based upon an inherent characteristic of the console.

N64... 64-bit processor.
DS... Dual Screen.
Gamecube... shaped like a cube.
Virtual Boy... immersive, kinda like the VR machines doing the rounds at the time.
Gameboy... er, um, shaped like a small male child. ;)

Might the Revolution do the same?

The code name Revolution obviously come from the fact that the new controller will revolutionise gaming... based on previous naming conventions it's possible that they may keep this name... however, if they don't keep the revolution moniker what name will they choose based upon the characteristics of the system?

The name will come from either the Virtual Console feature or more probably the controller.

Either that or N5. ;)
