Revolution as a stealth content delivery platform?

What do you think the chances are that we'll see Nintendo open the download service not just to games developers, but to other media providers?

I think Nintendo's been smart here and we're going to see a lot more of this than they've been letting on. They've got the infrastructure there, all they need is the content providers. The system comes with 512MB of storage, which although it isn't a huge amount, will be easily expandable by SD cards (which really are dirt cheap now) and possibly by USB mass storage devices. Not to mention that the Revolution will be a part of your home network. Also, with the Revolution contoller, they have a much friendlier interface to these services than the traditional gamepad.

iTMS or Napster on Revolution? Do you think it will happen?

I also think no.

what do you mean here btw.. ohh n/m i see. its the remote aspect.

No, that's Sony and MS business model. Nintendo has no media to offer outside of games.

Well they were talking about getting into the anime business in Japan, Revolution would be a very efficient distribution platform for that.

Also, although Nintendo itself has little in the way of other media to offer, there's plenty of companies that do Nintendo may work with them. Take Apple for example (not that I am suggesting in any way it will happen; it seems to be every Nboy's wet dream that Apple would team up with Nintendo for some reason), they have shown by putting iTunes on Windows that they don't have any problems with offering their service on platforms that aren't their own. At the same time, their interest conflict with those of Microsoft and Sony (by the way, the shows how easy the United States and Japan are on big business, these companies should have been split up into seperate divisions a long time ago), so they're unlikely to work with them on the matter.
So that leaves Nintendo as a possible option if they wanted to expand their distribution, although obviously Nintendo would have to be a MUCH bigger player than they were this generation and widen their demographic for this to even have a possiblity of happening. Which is, in an interesting coincidence, precisely what Nintendo is trying to do. They want gaming and as a result, the Revolution, to become part of every living room.

If Nintendo expects world marketshare by 2007 (if this sentiment is shared by all of Nintendo, and not just J. Merrick, himself), then obviously, they have more up their sleeve that they haven't revealed yet. I mean, that's a bold statement from a high official @ Nintendo to make a statement like that with 2 behemoths fighting for the same top spot.

I think Nintendo definitely has some secret stuff, yet to be revealed that will take many people by surprise...just like those non-games.

I think it would be an good route for Nintendo to take, but the system would need more storage capacity, IMO, which would increase costs. And we know Nintendo's all about a low priced, universally accessible system. Of course, they could release a multimedia version, but their thinking is probably 'what's in it for us?' I think it could help their image, though.
