Revolution Controller = Future of LARP?

"With good use of the expansion terminal, isn't it possible to make, for instance, a versus shooting game without the use of the monitor, where the fight is through the controller alone? I feel that it is a great controller that can inspire many ideas, even aside from videogames."

-Takanobu Terada

so yeah, this quote got me thinking, could this controller out of nowhere, start a revolution in the way LARP goes down? i think the potential is obviously there.

god that would be hilarious i think. just imagine. well, if done in a "lightning bolt!" kind of way.

They will say "wow"

Excellent idea. Nintendo could make the move from non-games to nothing actually on the screen at all!

The Revolution should fuck being a box of wires and electronics at all, and just be a big cardboard box you can get into and 'imagine' an innovative world all you want, while gibbering to yourself. Like in that episode of Rugrats.

No one else finds it ironic that -- as far as this thread indicates -- people who play Halo 2 all day are teh l33t, but people who LARP are worthy of ridicule?

We need to get our standards in order, don't ya think?

And, to address the topic, it's theoretically possible, I suppose, but as someone whose never LARPed, I can only guess that the person-to-person interaction at the heart of such role-playing would be utterly ruined by the "virtual" experience. An MMORPG is much more feasible for qualty gameplay on a system like the Revolution.

Nope, nothing ironic at all. There is a world of difference between someone turning on their TV to play Halo 2 and someone getting dressed up in medieval garb and then going to the forrest to pretend they're a wizard or something.

There's no reason to attack someone for their hobbies. Remember that role-playing is a social event. All those creepy, black-garbed people playing Vampire on college campuses across the country ... at least they're geeky together.

Now, how many of us have sat up -- alone -- playing Final Fantasy X until 5 a.m.? (Or maybe that's just me.)

I momentarily forgot what LARP was and thought this was going to be a thread about Rev controller use in some educational or medical software. :|

edit: That Zelda pic is hideous and a big reason why some people can't tolerate cosplay, much less accept it as a legitimate hobby, without ridiculing it so much. Ugly, out of shape people who don't realize how terrible (more than usual) they look in their homemade costumes.

Not according to ghostlyjoe - its deadly social oppression.

FIGHT THE POWER!

Did I really come off that self-important and heavy-handed?!? Trust me, I'm not taking this as seriously as you seem to believe.

Let's be honest, though. Live-action role-players are the spiritual siblings of hardcore gamers, at least on a mainstream coolness scale: One step above Trekkies and people who dress up like Frodo Baggins.

I'm not ashamed to be a dork, but I'm not in denial either, and I'm always ready to take up the cause for my oppressed brethren: Viva la resistance!!!!!

:)

If Nintendo were somehow contributing towards the future of LARP, I'd probably have a larger distate for them than I do right now.

It can't be a good sign when where already finding excuses to justify the revolutions design.

"But You can cast it like a fishing rod and play fishing games.."

but, but SHUT UP!!

Buzzkill! Either make fun of LARP or go away.
