You can turn it on it's side and use it like a regular gamepad...
 
I had this thought a long time ago, but now that the controller is shown I'd like to revisit it again.

Do you know why the Arcade scene is still alive (and going strong) in Japan? It's because those games offer unique experiences that can't be faithfully reproduced in the home without expensive (and oftentimes bulky) add ons. I figured along time ago that (with Nintendo talking up the slow decline of the Japanese home gaming market for so long) that they would go for an interface that encouraged games similar to the unique ones found in Japanese arcades. I also figured that a free form one handed 3D controller would be the best way to do that. I have no doubt that this thing will bring in causal users like crazy. This thing is going to change the way we play games.
 
i think it looks cool and seems like it could be A LOT of fun and offers a new fresh experience but i just cant see it getting mainstream success. id like to be proven wrong though.
 
Well.. it sure istn anything what i thought it would look like. But after watching that video im kinda excited, atleast its never done before (so a revolution).

1) It's not a gimmick (see DS)
2) Don't like it? That's fine, you can use the wavebird.

With one analog stick that is on another part of the pad? Or can they be put together somehow? Or do you mean just the tv remote looking thing? Because it doesnt look like something I'd like to hold sideways for too long (I think I still have some marks from the NES pad on my hands). The video doesn't play too good and I'm at work, so can't fiddle around to make it work.

I do, but this is still kind of cool. :)

We'll see what they do with their games. If they don't make everything into simple, easy, pick-up-and-play crap I may buy one.
 
It's funny that the ad it made me watch before seeing the video in IGN said "believe".

I'm still on the fence with this, but if given the right support the Revolution could be amazing! I only wish Nintendo would release both the revolutionary controller and a more traditional controller out of the box. That way, all their bases are covered.

...I'm warming up to this idea though. It's just that I fear Nintendo may fail.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. You don't want to play "regular" games with this controller. Regular games are the "old way" of thinking, or better yet, obsolete. You shouldn't be demanding to play regular games with Revo's controller. You should be demanding to play game software that transcends the current stagnant pool of gaming we have been all too happy to sit in.
 
This controler converts to a nunchuku way too easily, there are going to be alot of kids with dents in their heads after this thing gets released.

Win button indeed.
 
Damn...that is the stupidest looking thing ever. They took "trying to out-do your competition by being unique" to a whole new level.

Yeah. I've always loved how Nintendo knows what I want to play better than me. I'm probably still goin to get the system at some point, but I'm not too excited about it at this point.
 
I mentioned it in the other thread, but I gotta say it again:

A Survival Horror game, akin to Silent Hill where you control the flashlight with the wand, could be one of the best things ever.
 
It looks great for mini games, but for everyting else its going to suck (i guess it might be good for FPS games)

Too much effort needed to play some of those games, i cant imagine swinging my arm for tennis or soccer for hours. But it would be great for golf
 
I'm 100% SOLD.
Games haven't really evolved since the PSX/N64 Era. (Samething, better graphics.)

Now I can actually PLAY next Gen GAMES.
This is Next Gen, better graphics are not.

Can't wait to play a Zelda and actually have a true sword fight. :D
 
The people who keep bitching about having to move their arms for "HOURS" need to:

1) Stop being so damn lazy

2) Get off the fucking couch and quit playing videogames for "HOURS"

3) Not buy a Nintendo Revolution
 
Honestly, that video shows exactly why Revolution = Jackpot. Everyone will want to play this. Nintendo's new demographic is 2 - "how-old-can-you-get?".

Here's one for the mods: if Nintendo does not succeed like hell with this, ban me for eternity.
 
The amazing thing that this commercial does is that it does not show a single screenshot--it focuses completely on the players. This is key--it makes the experience of a game about you, the player. This will speak volumes to the non-gamer.

Don't forget gesture controls, by swiping the controller. Move it sharply to the left or right reloads your gun, or does a quick turn. As IGN mentioned, swiping it down suddenly puts Samus into the morphball mode. A platformer's jumping could be entirely controlled just by gesture: move Mario with the analog, make him jump anyway by flicking the controller in that direction. Still leaves A and B open for other moves, not to mention the triggers on the analog stick.

It does both. Gyros allow you to rotate, tilt, and roll the controller. The sensor allows you to point directly at things on the TV, like a light gun.
 
It uses an antenna of some sort that is placed on or under the tv. It does not have to be pointed at the tv. It's some sort of wireless/proximity thing. This way all forms of tvs work.
 
Let me say again. The all white Revolution and controller makes it the most aesthetically pleasing console this generation.

After watching the video, I still have no clue how it will play with games. I think they just hired some actors to role-play what they think the controller will be used for. Still, I'm intrigued since the controller can both be very conventional in terms of playing old famicom games and very strange.
 
BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!!!!! This is why I love and continue to support Nintendo. FUN FUN FUN, Not HD rubbish, lighting technology and all the other eye candy tech nonsence floating around and being used to cover up the fact they next gen will just be a facelift on this gen with not real move forward in terms of gameplay.

Why not. if the pointer function that emulates a mouse is as good as they say, FPS and strategy games will thrive on it and both are good on-line.
 
I'll have to try and see this for myself first. Rev is not going to be my primary console, but it sure will be my second.

You kidding? As odd as this controller is, multiplayer spaz-sessions seem to be a given
 
Wow. That's not at all what I was expecting...and that's a very good thing indeed. Never thought I'd say this, but I'm really excited to see what experiences developers can come up with to support the controller.

My gf isn't really into games that much. The only game I was able to convince her to try out longer than 10 minutes was Lumines (although I didn't get my PSP back for 3 hours, but that's another story). She did, however, get into Samba de Amigo on a coworker's Dreamcast in a big way, and so did her game-hating girlfriends. I can see her enjoying Revolution's gaming experiences in a very similar manner - natural controls are the best way to get non-gamers into gaming, and as mentioned earlier, these are the kind of experiences that normally you only get in the arcade. Colour me surprised and interested in picking up a Revolution now...and that's not something I would have said yesterday.

Well done, Nintendo.
