Revolution Controller Video

Ok can someone answer my questions:

1) Does the controller vibrate or have any FF?
Yes. Rumble built in.
2) Is it an actual light gun/laser pointer? If so, does this mean that Revo games which use the laser pointer function will have no HD or Widescreen support?
No. It uses wireless and gyroscope technology to detect position and direction pointed
3) Is this Nintendo just clearly going after the mainstream/female/casual market? Do they really feel hardcore gamers are going to embrace this controller?
FPS should be absolutely incredible with this set up, although I'm a bit worried about the length of the cord between the control wand and the analog grip attachment. Shoot enemies by tilting and pointing your virtual gun... nice!
4) How long can you hold you flail your arms around in front of you before they become tired? Because you're going to be finding out in 2006!
Meh.
5) Finally WTF are Nintendo smoking man? Because I got to get me some of THAT!
Makes two of us.
Seriously though, it really is cool to see Nintendo just flying in the face of convention and doing something new. I hope it pays off.
Indeed.

...except what they're smoking.

two threads discussing the same thing at least this one is safe from the trolls :)

That was awesome O_O I can't wait to see some games for it.
Lightsaber fighting games <3 Mario Tennis <3 Mario Party <3

The best part about it is, I didn't expect anything just so I wouldn't be disappointed. I'm going to buy this day 1 :D

Also, I have to say: They were afraid of Sony copying THIS??

I honestly think Sony will copy it. They will improve on the design like all good Japanese companies do, but it will be inspired by the Revolution controller.

Pretty much the same as the MG4 threads. :)

So the Revolution = Non-games ?

Not bad, actually. This could actually work for Nintendo.

You think that the controller will be used just for non-games? You have no imagination man.

OMG that is SEX. the thing needs to come out. Nintendo are you watching this thread?

I think it looks good. Technically, it looks almost exactly like the Xavix console we have in the states, except instead of Revolution's shared controller component Xavix gives you new controllers in each $60 game. Both consoles have the motion sensor in front of the TV and orientation sensors and buttons on the controllers.

I've read good reviews about the Xavix so I can only assume it'll get better with the Revolution and the budget Nintendo has (I've never actually played a Xavix.)

Shit...WTF is this...They created the perfect controller with the SNES and since then the only they have done have been horrible and atrocious gamepads that have just worked for certain games.

I don't like it.

I don´t know what´s your case, but sure my N64 and gameCube pads worked with all my games :lol

I cringed when I first saw the thing, but in the right hands (Nintendo) it could be a cool little device. I hope devs concentrate more on making origional rev games that take advantage of the controller, rather than watered down ports. I'd buy this thing for Zelda alone, sure hope it doesn't turn out to be another Virtua Boy (although the concept here seems more solid than both Virtua Boy and the DS for that matter.

is there any actual videos of people playing games with this thing? links please!

Otherwise its just as revolutionary as the eyetoy?.. just you get to push a few buttons too

OK, so where do 'gamers that don't want to look like retards while playing', fit into Nintendo's new system strategy?

I don't want to jump around my room, or slash my arm like a sword like some 7 year old playing Lord of the Rings. WTF?

I foresaw the one-handed controller a few days ago, because for 3D movement control you need your hands free from each other. But I couldn't figure out how it could work (I pictured all the buttons from GameCube's controller being on one stick-like controller). Of course, Nintendo pulled it off better than I could have imagined. Godammit, they're brilliant.

This controller can do everything and more than current controllers. There's no gimmick about replacing buttons with actual movement. If this can play Zelda, Mario and Metroid (which it should be obvious that it can), it's no simple gimmick.

If you don't accept this controller, you will be left in the past. Multi-platform releases will be hard for Rev only because they'll be stuck in Sony and MS's old way of thinking. With 3D movement, you don't need a ton of buttons to play games anymore.

Welcome to the Remote-lution, bitches!

I had only one thing to like about that video, the possibility of sword fighting.

great.....here comes wario ware revolution bleh.

You're too cool to play videogames. Go do something else with your time.

Yeah, he uses the same argument old fellas used to use years ago. "I´m not playing videogames, I´m not a kid, you know..."

i'm fine with yelling at my Nintendog in front of my whole family and my friends so a little flapping of my hands won't be a problem

I think a photoshop of the Star Wars kid OR for bonus points, George Michael Bluth from Arrested Development with a revolution controller is in order.

MAKE IT HAPPEN, GAF!

Atleast the physical activity will makes us look less like nerds. :p But seriously, why is looking like a seven year old playing lord of the rings a bad thing? You guys need to chill out on external appearances and feed your inner child :p

Look you guys, if the game is fun, I will play it in my home (with the blinds closed) and have fun. Buy why the hell do you think SONY PS products became so popular? Because SONY knows how to sell, and they know how to sell image. The main reason that many people don't buy into GC is because it is not as 'cool' as the other systems. It is true, image is big. SONY knows that people want to try to look cool, if it is listening to music or watching movies or playing video games. I am just saying that people are not going to want to sit in there room with 3 friends and wave their arms like birds in some game like a bunch of silly looking kids.

I get lots of physical activity myself already so let that tired argument rest. Like I said I think the idea is neet, but I think it is not really going to work very well for long time gamers like Nintendo wants us to believe.

I perfectly understand how Sony rules the image game and how MS outdoes Nintendo in this as well. I think Nintendo is trying to compete in the image war by basically copying Apple, but the problem is that videogames are already so male centric and as such insecure that Apple's andro hipness might just bight them in the ass. Like your concerns with how you look playing videogames. No one looks cool playing games, infact it's often quite funny to watch others play a game and lose. Sony some how musters up this conception that it's mainstream or in any way edgy. Apple is edgy as well, the Rev is an obvious homage to Apple products, but that Apple edge is cross-cultured. Sony and MS have been doing it my focusing on one single demographic and so far that seems to win over anything else.

I just don't understand this sort of sentiment.. that "Sony makes it cool!" when we all know that's a lie. For all I know the revolution concept could end up catchy. Suddenly it's a remote instead of guns and cars that's [it[/i]. In the end though it's all a company telling you how to feel when I think people know better, so why be anyone's bitch?

People are worried how they will look moving the controller around - you will look like you are doing something interesting rather than like a zombie staring mindlessly at a screen - you feel stupid playing bongos in donkey konga at first too but people love watching someone play - it's funny - and then they want to play themselves.

I think it's utterly brilliant. I had no interest in Revolution yesterday - none whatsoever - now I am jazzed for it. I expected the revolution controller to have a crappy underwhelming gimmick (I am one of the ones not impressed by the DS), but they have really wowed me. Kudos nintendo.

Well shit, Nintendo lived up to the hype. This is going to work.

Notice how the main device looks like a remote control. Don't you believe that's a coincidence, it makes older people feel like it's something they already know.

At some point in the video there is a guy in white moving the controller very slightly up and down...

He looks like a gynaecologist, and I really wonder what is on the screen he is... erm concentrating on so intently... :lol

I'm really curious to see what 'new' types of games come out of this :D

OMG! Nintendo is most definitely *not* teh kiddy!! :lol :lol :lol

i'm afraid we will see many eye-toy type of games, i don't really see myself playing long sessions this way.

ofcourse by using it as a normal controller it should be ok for a variety of games. But i see Nintendo with the DS and now this is going for a whole new demograph and i don't think it is really my taste, but who know how it turns out when i play it some day..

well it seems the revolution would definatly compliment a ps3 or 360 owner

in that most of its "in house games" will be unique and most "3rd party games" wont feel right on the rev

i kinda see it as ps3 360 fighting up one street while revolution is going in another direction
