Well that would be neat if it was the USB dongle that was rumored in the "Pokemon" thread. Where if you didn't have a wireless router, and your computer was connected directly to your modem or a wired router, you could plug this into your computer and just have your DS data transferred through that (Eliminating gutting your existing setup.)

Edit: Looks fake. The USB grooves are showing wear. Why would a protype be that worn?
 
You'd think someone at one of the American sites would have asked NOA about this by now. Perhaps they're not getting anything out of them (which may point to it being true).

This must be that dongle I was talking in the "Pokemon will be 1st" thread. Unless it's fake, of course.

It looks too much like the DS unit w/ a USB plug pasted on to look real.

thats nearly true... but its not glade plug ins, its their "scent stories" technology. the

I really doubt this. Nintendo never uses the same design for two machines in a row.

if the network depends on proprietary base stations, it won't work at all in the states, will it? this country, you'll notice, is freakishly large. this whole thing sounds ridiculous. if they entire controller is rub-sensitive, how would it distinguish intentional rubbing from incidental hand shifting? i'd ask why you'd want to rub your controller anyway, but this is supposed to be a nintendo product.

yeah one more thing to think it's fake. NOA must be aware of the fact that this probably wouldn't work in the states...

nintendo knows that NA is a big market for them.

Each game would probably disregard input from any area of the controller not dedicated to gameplay. Games may have different zones that are active depending on the implementation. I'd imagine most would only use the sticks and buttons.
 
well jonny night train and others have been saying the revolution seems to deal with connections that may also use ur computer screen. didnt iwata or someone say that would play some sort of roll or am i just crazy?
 
Hell, even the night before the E3 unveiling there was a pretty well received fake image of twisting and bending control wheels and no normal interface.

How expensive are gyroscopes, though?

And couldn't similar motion tracking be done (cheaper?) with a camera, or infrared camera?

Though I'm not so sure about Nintendo going down the camera route either, since Sony seems to have gotten there first, and I doubt Nintendo will want to be seen to be following them.

I think the POINT of this thread is to demonstrate just how enmired in their own bullshit philosophies Nintendo is, and how we'd all probably believe it if Iwata announced that the Revolution was controlled by you thrusting your fingers through the eye sockets and into the surprisingly lightweight brain pan of the severed head of Reggie himself.

Its a thread based on rumours. and you go as far to say this ^^^. I'm pretty sure; they're bloody well aware of the potential for

a) PSP to overtake DS; dethrone their handheld reign
b) and I'm FUCKING SURE they're examining their CONSOLE DESIGN post the gamecube debacle (not getting into it here).

so please take your vitrolic comments and hold off til we get something official. I don't know what you do for a living; but if you work as a gaming jorno (?), you'd do better than to be so biased against any gaming company. They've made their mistakes but... guess what? They're still rolling in the bling. I have to say; something I wonder if the whole N is doomed isn't some underground MS viral marketing trick to sway perception. It sort of is working but really if you look at the numbers, its not.

No, the increase in the amount of bling for Q3 of this fiscal year is down 43% on the amount of bling they earned last year in Q3. :P

The bling amount is >100% of what it was last quarter.
 
Nintendo raised its forecasts then cut the new revised numbers. If my memory is correct, It's still more than twice the amount the earned same time last year. Regardless, it is a lot more than what they earned last year. Bad news for equity holders expecting higher earnings, but it's not really bad for Nintendo coming off a product launch that should have drained profits with all the extra marketing costs.

I'm not bothered in the very least by rumours or the speculation that follows. In fact, I don't mind fueling it muself. It's really not a big deal to me if it doesn't all pan out.

Some people seem to be of the philosophy that you shouldn't discuss what could be if you don't know what is. But we can only speak about what could be while we are in ignorance.

Problem with Nintendo is that the guys at Kyoto see the world a lot different than people on GAF or heck even people in the industry. They've shown that they will go out on their own and do some really none sensical business decisions, some good but many that has come back to haunt them, especially in the last 10 years or so.

Since much of that history was officially under Yamauchi's lordship, I hold out some hope Iwata would be more practical and so far his moves to tie up with 3rd parties to farm out some franchises has been a positive move. But I think saying never is always a bad move with Nintendo.

I'm expecting the Revolution to be a boardgame with a mic and gyration controller. Anything more is bonus.

Yes, lowered expecations.

a) DS is turning out to be an excellent 3rd pillar so far. I'd say a great denter in the PSP domination path. The next GB whenever it hits should do alright too

b) I'm sure they're not that dumb. Come on... they have according to some gaffers - LOTRished LOZ. They're making moves

Some how i doubt Iwata or Miyamoto would ever set foot on American soil again if the Revolution turns out to be something that can only play NES, SNES, N64 and GC games with that shitless rednet community crap they had for the SNES back in the day :D

Odetnin: pick up a copy of Computer Games magazine from the past three years. Look for Doug Erickson. I've worked with the Ziffies doing filler content for their mags in the far-flung past, as well. Sorry, I'm legit.
 
I think the touchpad story is true because
a) it's cheap (Touchscreen in Pads = too expensive)
b) it fits to NDS ideas
c) it fits to "feel" and "different" concept Nintendo is promoting
d) it's technologie that is sucessfully on PC market, but not in the gaming-area, so console-only-ppl believe it will be some unique innovation from Nintendo (like the analogstick, force feedback, touchscreen and other inventions they just copied and labeled them "revolutionary")

e) it's nice for fps 3D shooters and other pc-like games that get more and more popular in Japan. No moving parts like a trackball, no mousepad needed...
f) you can scribble and draw on it, perfect for kid-games and edutainment and linking with NDS game ports/sequels.

How they handle the "noline community" is the only remaining sticking point for me. If it's basically one big proprietary WAN, the 20 hardcore gamers in the country will buy it and then wait for someone to come up with a way to tunnel it through the real Internet.

But if they offer AC power / "burst"-like local connectivity on top of an Xbox-Live like subscription service (or even just a free match-making client that works over any 802.11 network), then this thing's going to be hella convenient to just plug and play. Even more developers will put network code in, because every Revolution can use it (a la System Link, but not just for hardcore LAN parties), and the average urban/suburban consumer could get some form of 'online play' just by turning the console on. For a lot of people, that might be the only taste they need to invest in the expanded "real Internet" subscription model.

At first this whole thing sounded like a terrible idea, to me. Which is saying a lot, since my pants were basically creamified at every oddball tidbit about the DS we heard as it hit the fan last year. But it's growing on me really quickly. Especially if they keep a stick or two, a trigger, and some buttons so games still have some responsiveness or click to them.

But hell, who wouldn't want to be able to pet Princess Peach's backside with your ring finger as your thumbs rescue her from Bowser's clutches?
