I would just like to chime in with a small comment about all of this puzzling talk from Iwata concerning the "noise" and "power consumption" levels.

As noted in my HDTV questions thread, my abode, she is tiny. Due to this, noise emissions tends to become more of a problem compared to those who have larger living/gaming areas.

My original PS2 that died sounded something akin to a freight train when it was on, forcing me to turn up the volume much louder than should have been required. On the other hand, my GC ran (and still does run) silently, with only the drive sounds when it's loading. Where I had to have my volume at say 20 to hear over the PS2's fan of doom, I could play comfortably at 7 or so with my GC, and hear perfect audio with all of its nuance. It's barely noticeable. To hear that the Revolution, like the GC is being designed to be small, unobtrusive and very quiet while running, makes me very happy.

I imagine, this will make other people who live in small, enclosed areas (read: Japan) also very happy.

That's part of the reason I bought a PStwo (other than the old PS2 being, well, dead). It runs as quietly as my GameCube.

The other thing I'd like to note is that Nintendo also seriously downplayed the "Dolphin"'s power before it was unveiled. This is not to be hope to the delusional Nintendo fans out there. But I would like to remind people that they were having the exactly the same idiotic discussions that Nintendo would not "be able" to compete, hardware power-wise before the GameCube was officially unveiled. Whether history repeats again is something I couldn't tell you. Perhaps the Revolution will lack the power of the PS3 and Xbox360, but no one knows anything about any of the systems yet.

Because of this, I'm not bothering with "next-gen" until there are actually games out for all of the systems. The gain in power is exciting, yes, but for once I can actually agree with Nintendo on something: it doesn't matter unless there's games for it. (This is NOT to imply there won't be games for PS3 and Xbox360 either, so stop typing your flamebaits, you idiots.) I'm just not excited about them yet.

I'm sure I will be next E3, when there'll be games for all the finalized systems (alpha kits do not count) out and ready to play.

I really, really, really doubt it. The technical limitations on such a thing are monstrous. The infrastructure would have to be one of the best that North America has ever seen. The controller would cost way too much.

Nintendo's all about keeping THEIR cost down. This really doesn't account for that, either.

I call bullshit.

I expect the Revolution to be basically a normal console (Nintendo has stated that the revolutionary part has nothing to do with the consol itself but rather the controler). I expect that the controler is basically a wireless GC controler with gyros (2 of them one near the control stick the other where the GC controler's rumble feature is located) plus some moderations (preasure sensitive buttons, ect.). The way that the controler relates to the DS (when Reggie said that the DS is a good hint...) is in the way that it senses movement through the use of the gyros. No touch screens, no hybrid of a portable/ console. As for the overall power, I believe when they stated that it would be 2-3 times as powerful as the GC they meant that the games will easilly look 2-3 times better then say RE 4 or LoZ: TP.

I'm sorry, reasonable and rational posts have no place on this board. I'm going to have to ask you to leave.

It's weird hearing alot of the Nintendo fans liking this idea, when it's basically Nintendo admitting defeat and leaving the console business. Which also means that in order for fans to get truly next gen versions of Mario and Zelda and all the possiblilities that next gen will make possible, Nintendo would have to make them for 360 or PS3.

I just really don't see how a Nintendo fan could really be happy with this unless they have finally come to the conclusion that N doesn't have the ability to hang with the newcomers in a business they started.

But if this is true, which i really hope it isn't, i guess Nintendo could save some face by still acting like their in the console business but for all intents and purposes are admitting defeat.

Holy shit, all we have is qoutes will you guys fucking shut up and wait until we get some concrete specification, and stop fucking speculating! Thats how all those retarded Revolution expectations got started. For once take what has been said as simply general talk nothing more and wait.

Dude, chill. Speculation is fine at least it gives us something to do and think about untill they finally reveal concrete info.

You have to admit that the thread title is misleading... Not to a point of freaking out like he did, but still, we're only speculating, nothing has been "revealed"...
