Revolution's keyword: "paradigm shift"

wouldn't ya think whatever it is that Nintendo has a large group test the waters 1st before going public? sorta how a pilot for a sitcom is done infront of a live audiance if it fails then back to the drawing board before millions are invested and so forth.

That the Revolution would be a kind of hybrid gaming console/nintendo gaming network (hardrive and all) that allowed you to download Nintendo games past, present and future.

I thought he was off his rocker, but we'll just have to see. Maybe he was on to something. He said he heard it from several sources 'in the know', anyway...

Here's my take on the situation. Nintendo doesn't want to charge people to play games online. However, Nintendo has no problem porting and repackaging 20 year old games and selling them for $20-30 a pop. Combine the two and you have a Nintendo online gaming service, at least partially funded by downloadable classics for $5-10 a piece. I know I'd pay $10 a game to have those games any time I wanted. Imagine, a library of NES, SNES, Gameboy and N64 classics at your fingertips.

Not sure, actually....

That's an interesting question. I'd imagine it would be stand alone (certainly they've got to feel confident that they are on to something, and wouldn't want their potential user base to be limited by how many GCN's were sold in the past...and they couldn't expect new users to fork out the cash for a GCN and Revolution just to get started...but it would certainly solve that BC problem :))

i was just about to say that if they just reached out to appeal to people's (ok, my) consumerist instincts, they'd have a winner on their hands. new game comes out, you can download it instantly onto a disc or game card or whtever.. i dunno :p but it would certainly make it easier to justify purchasing a new game (especially if they were cheaper and online enabled). this 'paradigm shift' could be not in the way the games are played, but how they are obtained. maybe. i would imagine that if nintendo games were substantially cheaper than their hard-copy disc counterparts, it would be a lot easier for people to choose them instead of sony/ms.

Imagine if the system had a DVD burner with a LightWrite-esque system, so you could burn the DVD of the downloaded game, and then flip it over and burn a monochromatic color image on the top of the disc. Would be interesting.

What is a paradigm shift???no im not english.....:P

It's marketing speak for something that's actually quite dull and insignificant, but that you want to pimp as revolutionary and world-changing. See Segway for a fine example of a paradigm shift in personal transportation.

Revolution is the most intriguing next-gen console. Xenon and PS3 are evolutionary designs that offer nothing new or exciting. I hope nobody forgets that Nintendo was the company that was first to include analog control with a console. Then everyone else followed. What Nintendo is doing for Revolution will give them a much needed boost in market share, and garner deserved respect for being originators and innovators.

You'll see.

I hope for nintendo that the "Revolution" will live up to his name. I'm scared it's gonna be some gimmicky features that nobody really want.

IAWTP. We don't have countless threads discussing what the dual shock 3 will be like.

Whether the revolution makes it or not, props to Nintendo.

Doesn't mean Dual Shock 3 won't be revolutionary. Just that Sony aren't talking about it at the moment.

The big difference is that Nintendo are pimping the hell out of the 'promise' of Revolution, which is a *very* dangerous game to play. Us fanboys can imagine wacky stuff that Nintendo would never be planning, so they run a very real risk of showing it, and the entire internet going 'meh'.

Right now, they should be playing the Sony PSP game. Sit tight while everyone beats on your 20 second battery, then calmly release to hyperbole.

Winning the internet fanboy war doesn't mean anything in the end. They can get bashed like crazy pre-launch and still have an awesome consol (see xbox)

And besides, I don't see most of this attention on Revolution coming from Nintendo themselves, this forum is going crazy over every little PR soundbite.

I swear, the next person who ought to know better to come out with this lie gets a one-week ban.

But Nintendo are the ones pushing how their next console will be revolutionary. Their definition has differed a lot from ours in the past, so they are running a risk IMO.

Sure, internet fanboys do not dictate overall consumer tastes, but the first year or so of a consoles life is selling to us mostly.

I just wanted to say that I hate it when people pronounce Paradigm as Pear-a-dig-um. I remember back in the Project Reality days when I called the Nintendo hotline for info, even the prerecorded guy listing some of the companies involved pronounced (Paradigm Studios) this way.
