Richard Burns Rally - time attack challenge

op_ivy

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
ok, heres the deal. play RBR, post your best time attack you can get tonight (not best ever, honor system). use whichever car you want, tuned however you want. use xbox, ps2, pc, i dont think it really maters, they should all be the same, or similar.

first stage up is:

France
Joux Verte II

my first run of the night...

5:21:61

not to bad, fairly happy with it. i went pretty fast throughout, with only one relatively major error. on a downhill hairpin, i cut the corner a bit, and almost rolled my car down an incline. i had to reverse, then throw it in first again... costed me a few seconds at the very least.

I've never heard of this game, is it not available in the US?

maybe on pc, i honestly dont know. its one of the best rally games i've played though. very sim.

Looks nice. I wish we got more Rally games in the states. I haven't played one ever since CMR became XBOX exclusive over here (well, PC too).

Damn, I didn't know they had this out for the Xbox. How does it compare to Colin McRae? Also, if I wanted to buy it, would Kelkoo UK be pretty reliable? Would they ship to the states?

its much more sim then cmr. its a hellava game, the graphics are decent (a bit better then cmr) but the framerate is pretty bad on xbox (dont know about ps2, and i'd imagine the pc one is just fine with a good rig). as long as you play from the bumper cam though, its a pretty steady 30fps and definitely playable, but its worth mentioning so that you arent dissapointed. i'd imagine frame rate wores would hate the game based off of this alone.

another warning, as i said, the game is sim. its pretty hardcore, and quite difficult to learn.

i'll be posting my replay of that time i got earlier probably tomorrow, so check back to see the game in action.

and i have no idea who that site is... sorry :)

Tanx man.

I've read a fair amount about it over the past year or so. The sim guys really seem to love it. Would you gauge it as being harder than Nascar Racing 2003 or Forza?

I'd love to buy it, but I don't know where to get the Xbox version here in the states. Kelkoo is chain store based in Britain I think. Maybe some limey's will chime in on where to get it.

never played nascar, but it definitely harder then forza. think along the lines of ferrari f355 challenge, with all assists off, and of course this is rally, so long 3-5 minute stages of windy an narrow dirt/tarmac roads.

Very cool. Sounds like I'll love it.

EDIT: Oh, and I'll quit pestering you with questions now. :)

I just recently noticed that EB has Richard Burns listed on their site...for $20. Apparently coming out in a couple weeks?

wow, cool!

shame the ps2 version isnt too, as from what i understand the framerate is a bit better, plus i'd love to pick it up for my gt force wheel :)

holy fuck, that one is hard!

the first 3rd is super fast. you can haul ass, pretty straightforward, no trickey parts. the next 3rd is the summit. its still not all that hard, you just have to remember to slow down more for corners, as you wont get as much grip on the rocks and gravel. the last 3rd is he fucking bitch. its all down hill, 50% rocks/gravel, 50% red dirt. there ae several pits and ruts in the road to boot, so be carefull! YOU ALSO TEND TO GAIN SPEED VERY quick downhill, and inertia and gravity make slowing down for big corners really tough.

i must have played at least 6 or 7 times before getting this time. i made one big fuck up where i had to throw it into reverse, but i also lost time trying to be cautious in the downhill.

The PS2 version had steady frame rate and the TFF was just as good as the PC but over all the PC is where its at with all the mods. They might have fixed the frame rate for US xbox version.

I had to reinstall and lost my save so I dont have that French stage yet. Hopefully I will be able to unlock it tonight.

those are times you just got, not best ever? impressive.

how about Joux Verte II though. thats really the one i spent the most time with, and feel its a pretty good run

ok, shot the video, but now i'm having problems getting it off my camera and onto my pc...

i've tried to go through the standard "camera and scanner wizard" and i've tried opening up the cameras contents through explorer and directly copying over to my pc's hdd...

but no matter what i try to do, i get an error message saying;

"error copying file or folder..... the i/o operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request."

anyone have any suggestions?

the file is a little over 200 megs, and my ancient pc doesnt have a "high speed usb port", or something (it tells me everytime i try and hook up my psp... but as far as i know, its never been an issue other then speed).

hey Gek, regarding prospect ridge, see my post above. i was actually racing prospect ridge II, not "prospect ridge". that 5:03 time must be what i got in the rally career, i'll have to go back and race that to see how i compare.
