Ridley Scott's Prometheus Trailer

There have been leaked set pictures of dudes in Xenomorph costumes, so there's a good chance they'll be in the movie at some point. Ridley Scott isn't just going to come out and say "Yeah, we have Xenos in here" because that would ruin the surprise.

Oh, you mean like you just did.

Got Aliens blu-ray for Christmas, went down and picked up Alien so my girlfriend can see them for the first time in order. She hates scary movies and I think this is going to be glorious torture.

Alien > Aliens

I read that they tried to put an alien 'suit' on a dog and get it to run around so it appeared more tangible.

Apparently the dog didn't handle it well and it just ended up looking silly, so they went with CG/animated effects.
The scene after it kills
Golic
and runs out of the containment bay is one of the most noticable/shitty, IMO.

That's odd - I thought Aliens only looked marginally worse than Alien, and that's keeping in mind that Alien looks like it was filmed yesterday. A little grainer and a little noisier, but ultimately still a really great transfer. Though I suppose you're talking about how it's shot rather than the quality of the transfer. Maybe I need to watch it again.
If you listen to the commentary Cameron admits that the film stock used at the time was a mistake.

I'm watching the sentry gun scene right now, and I am convinced that it is an important scene to the film. Consider this: The marines fight the aliens when they first meet them, and then don't fight them again until Hicks finds them crawling in the ceiling. Why? Standard version just chalks it up to the aliens finding another way in, even though we are not shown and the characters don't talk about the aliens trying to get in.

With the sentry gun scene, we see why the aliens come in a different way. It makes sense, and fills in a minor plot hole.

I actually never saw this movie, I do love Aliens and that new Predators movie, would I like Blade Runner?

Completely different film. The only thing similar I can see was Scott's vision of epicness, attention to detail, and a very good story. Blade Runner is one of the all time scifi greats. If you have Netflix streaming it's available.

Is it smooth and glassy or plastic and ridged?

And protruding from his head in case anyone misses it.

Agree. It's my favorite cut scene. I think it also helps raise the tension, because after it we know the aliens are looking for a way in. Without it, their arrival feels unexpected.

While I think that Alien has much better atmosphere, lighting, and pacing, Aliens is still a mighty fine movie. Just in a totally different way. The fighting scenes in Alien are somewhat hokey, whereas I feel like the ones in Aliens still stand up pretty well.

Alien = Resident Evil 2

Aliens = Resident Evil 4

(As far as pacing goes IMO)

So I re-watched Alien to see if it would quell my urge to watch the trailer...which i've been avoiding up till now, but i caved in (although i did only watch it in 240p)

It looks fucking incredible, but I really wish i had held out. DAMN THIS THREAD.

No. Its a sequel to the Bridget Jones movies with a Fantastic Voyage twist. The crew go inside Zellweger's now massive asshole and find the end of humanity lying within.

Humanity is shit? Pfft. We already knew that! So disappointed. :(

I wish Fincher would have had his freedom to make the movie he wanted to, sadly the studio forced their ideas on him so Alien 3 went kinda bad. I have never seen the extended/directors cut. I guess I should do that.

I seem to recall the Alien having a distracting green/blue screen effect when you see it...

the exception being the scenes when they use an actual puppet.

When I watched it recently someone here said it was only CG in one shot in the extended cut. I thought it was a lot more, but I guess I wouldn't know.

werent the aliens in alien 3 CG?

i remember liking it decently otherwise

Due to the fact there is only 1 alien in Alien 3, I cannot take you serious.

Is this really suppose to be a prequel of the Alien movies?
30 second Google search could give you the answer, or reading this thread on pretty much any even numbered page. But in short .. No its not a prequel. Its a separate movie that takes place in the same universe, rumored to be ~50 years before Alien. We have been told by Ridley himself that the Prometheus story is not a direct prequel to Alien, whatever that means.

Now that you people mentioned Blade Runner, the movie does fit in the Alien/Alien 3 universe, but not really in the Aliens universe.

Actually it fits a lot in the Alien 3 environment, both movies have kind of a similar feeling.

So which movies is this trailer showing in front of?

I'm going to go see Mission Impossible in a few hours, and I'm hoping this'll be in front of it. I'm going with my mother and she's a huge fan of the Alien movies, so I know she'll get a kick out of it.

I think Aliens will have a very small role in the end. There will be no survivors in the movie as they will have destroyed the thing killing them in the movie but they themselves will be killed by Aliens in the end which were also exploring the killing what was killing the humans in Prometheus

I saw it before Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

It's attached to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The best thing to come out of the Alien 3 DVD/blu-ray release is the making-of documentary. Absolutely fascinating and more candid about the movies troubled production than I ever expected.

Hahaha holy fucking shit what the fuck.

I am currently watching the Special Edition of Alien3 and so far I have been pleasantly surprised. I plan to do a bit of a write-up about it in this thread to give my thoughts but I just got to the 1 hour 50 minute mark and SUDDENLY COCA COLA.

That has seriously just killed all the good work the film was doing. It's not even an on-the-nose DANIEL CRAIG USES EPSOM PRINTERS IN THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO AND SO SHOULD YOU moment, it's a EVERYTHING IS OWNED BY WEYLAND-YUTANI EXCEPT FOR COCA COLA WHICH WE GIVE TO PRISONERS TO HELP THEM GET THROUGH THEIR DAY AT THE BLAST FURNACE moment.

What a fucking joke.
