The first Trolls movie only made 350 million. And if I'm going to be honest, advertising for the sequel was much better than the first film.

Don't worry, they won't. Trolls is a low tier film that that won't make heaps of money.

Wait, the article says 5 million rentals? That's $20 per rental in America and similar pricing around the world ($25 in Australia?). That's only about 100 million, take away the 30% cut from platform holders and it's about 70 million. The math doesn't add up, how could it have made more money than the first film?

Jesus, the amount of people in here that are frothing at the mouth for cinemas to die, just because they have some damn issue with society and being in public. Stay at home, wait for movies to release at home and watch your movies at home, let everyone else enjoy their theatre going experience. I for one could not imagine watching Bladerunner 2049 or Dunkirk at home on a shitty 55 inch TV as a first time experience.

I think I read that amc theatres at least isn't going to file for bankruptcy and they're just going to postpone payments to the landlords and landlords prefer this option rather than bankruptcy because those large spaces are harder to flip and get someone to lease it and they have a chance of getting paid again once this pandemic comes to an end.

I anxiously await the day that I never have to set foot in a movie theater in order to watch a new movie. The screens here are lousy anyway, there are always people coughing, talking and crinkling candy wrappers.
I want to be able to press pause, turn on subtitles etc... Movie theaters are old news.

Movie theaters are very clearly going the way of the Dinosaur... at least the ones that dont adapt. (and survive this COVID madness) Look at alamo drafthouse. I dont go there for the movies, I go there to watch a movie while I eat a (real) meal and drink a few beers. I get free tickets for AMC and Cinemark regularly (both with close locations) and have not used one. Not going to drive my ass to the theater to watch a more than likley meh movie and be stuck with $10 popcorn and $6 soda. Not even for a free ticket. Alamo realized I like to eat and drink beer.

We are in the era where the average home televison is 50+ inches and at least 1080p. Thats pretty damn good sitting in a living room. And we have fast internet so you can just pipe a 4k image into my house. Why would you go to the movies again?

I am married and have friends over to watch movies regularly. Theaters suck. They are dirty, overpriced, and food isn’t good. I get no joy going to a theater vs at home it’s always fun. I use a Benq Projector and 120” screen. No need for paying theaters for a bad experience.

Im done with theaters. i´ve never watched a drama or paid for a dumb comedy in a theater, i dont see the value proposition in it. you go to a theater to watch blockbuster in the vein of Mad Mad Fury Road or Star Wars ... until some asshole ruins the experience.

Turn them into Netflix Social Hubs, where everyone can watch netflix newest series together. In other have Hulu or Amazon show their content ... or

Turn them into Porn&Hub Theater
let everyone enter and let them watch
