I know there are a lot of cat lovers here, so I thought I'd share...

This was Blue, my favorite cat of the ones I have. My feline sidekick of sorts who spent every minute she could with me when I was around the house.

She was fine last week, then after a fight with one of my other cats she starting breathing funny. Took her to the vet on Monday, they said it was a heart problem and gave her meds. They also drained some fluid from her chest and gave her meds to dry the rest out.

By Tuesday she wasn't eating much, and was very depressed looking.

By Wednesday she was very dehydrated so I took her in for some fluids and appetite stimulants.

By Thursday she was coming back, starting to eat and drink water again....life was good.

Late last night she started to cry a lot and when we checked her she seemed a little worse off...but her temp was down 10 degrees from normal, and she was peeing very bloody (kidney probs) so we decided to take her to the vet and stop the suffering.

Amazes me that a cat can go downhill so fast.

Goodbye Blue, you'll be missed.

That's so sad... the same sort of thing happened to my dog. He was a Shetland Sheepdog (miniature collie) named Charlie. I fucking loved that dog, and I usually don't really care for dogs.

Sorry to hear about Blue, man. May the grieving period be short.

Did you get rid of the cat she fought with?
No...I like all my cats. Though admitedly I am a little upset at that one.

The opinion from the vets (we got 2nd opinions) was that she probably always had the heart condition and recent stress and her age just put her over the edge and she couldn't make it back.

It was odd too, cuz my wife was crying all the time this week and said she can't be there if we have to put her to sleep. When it came down to it though, I was the one that couldn't stay. I'd rather my memories and images be of the living version of my cat.

The plus side was I had those last 2 days off of work and was alone with her at home so I took really good care of her and hopefully made the best of it for her.

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
Being a fellow cat fan, i'm saddened by the news :(
Losing a fellow pet can sometimes be just as hard as losing a family member.

shit that sucks man. did your cats never get along or was it just a random fight over food?
They got along most of the time and play wrestled a lot. I have video of them wrestling to Star Trek fight music, which I will now remember to burn on CD.

Anyway just last week the male cat (Spork) started to get more aggressive with her. Maybe he knew she was getting sick, maybe he was just being mean. I'll never know.

Thanks for the comments...much appreciated.

Damn. I get teary eyed every time I read something like that. I'm so sorry, Mr. Pockets. Blue's suffering is over now. She will be missed always in this life, but I believe you will see her again someday.

I know some people around here like to hate on religion, especially Christianity, and I agree that some of it is bullshit, but I honestly believe that animals have a form of a soul, despite what a lot of people would say.

I have lost several cats over the years, and every time was a very sad experience. Just remember Blue as your friend, and the joy she gave you. I believe that as in life, and now in some etheric plane of existence, she knows that she was lucky to have you as an owner, to be a part of your family, and most importantly, to be your friend.

That's terrible. :(

We put my cat of ~15 years down about a year ago. In fact, it'll be a year to the day on Sunday.

She had a similar breakdown, though it was slower. We were able to prepare for it better, though when you're with a cat for every year that you can remember, and it follows you everywhere you go (as yours did), it's still very difficult. I was with her when she died. Cried a whole lot.

Thanks again for the replies...

It seems so odd to anguish over a cat when I have three more still. But the others aren't as personal to me I guess, Didn't realize to after Blue was gone. She would greet me every morning hwen I got up, greet me every day when I got home from work, sit at me feet for hours while I played WoW or when I watched movies.

When she was sick, I couldn't leave the room for 10 seconds without her crying....was wierd that she just wanted me with her 24/7 at the end there...

My wife thinks it's ironic that I took it so bad when before I was always saying "We need to get rid of a couple of these cats, 4 is too many"

Funny thing is, now I am looking to find a Blue two that is similarly colored...I need my own personal cat ;P

I offer condolences on your loss...

And on a completely unrelated note, the cat's colouring looks like it has a perpetual evil smirk in your picture

I love cats and the special bonds they can form. It's always sad to lose a cat that was especially attached to you. :(

Sorry to hear about your cat. I had to have my cat put to sleep a couple of years ago. She always used to follow me around too, and would sleep on my pillow every night (taking up most of it). Her health deteriorated in the last years of her life due to a thyroid problem, and after she had a couple of seizures/attacks one night i decided it would be best to put her down rather than have her endure another one. Threads like these bring back sad memories...

Nah, thats the general "why the hell are you flashing lights in my face" look that most cats give.

Mine will go crosseyed for the camera.
