I'm more intrigued by Alita: Battle Angel, as i only found out the other day, being a fan of Rodriguez films, looked up what Alita was and it sounds like a cool Cyberpunkish thing, so i am looking forward to that.

Really looking forward to it, and it's Cameron's baby so I'm expecting some mind blowing shit. Rodiguez has his full tool box to play with. Can't wait!

Like 90% of the reason the original is so great is because it's 80's as fuck. The way it looks, the way it sounds, the special effects, the pacing. By definition, making an updated version is going to strip a lot of that away.

No thanks.

Yeah, this one was never in need of a remake.

Sad news.

What's next, "Predator"?

This is something that could be decent if done right, but we'll never match that 70's/early 80's New York grit again.

This is a big reason why I wouldn't be interested in a remake of The Warriors. They are never getting that kind of NYC ever again, and it added so much character to that film.

Yeah. New York looked like shit back then and it really added to the atmosphere in films set there

This would require extensive set work like the Get Down to get right.

Also no thanks to this remake in general. Tho at least Robert Rodriguez is respectful of the gawds and would try and do it justice I think (but come well short)

It was actually shot here in St. Louis and they actually could, since things haven't really improved any in large parts of the city. (outside the area gentrified by hipsters, anyway)

However, I'm sure it will be shot in someplace like Canada or Eastern Europe that looks even less like NYC

This remake has been gestating for so long I thought it was dead, but if the studio is really going ahead with it then Robert Rodriguez seems like a great choice. I recall that almost three years ago three actors were rumored to be on the shortlist to play Snake: Jon Bernthal, Charlie Hunnam, and Dan Stevens. I wonder if any of them are still interested or being considered.

Either way it seems the better approach would be to take the general concept of EfNY just do a new city and a new character. Then they'd have more room to play with the story without as many comparisons to the original and Russell's iconic role. Plus of course we'd need a six-film arc and cross-over universe with another franchise setup in the first movie.

...Why? The movie's been aped so many times a remake is basically redundant.
He certainly hasn't presented a case as to why should anyone like him.

p.s. Sin City is a fluke.
I liked the Mexico trilogy. Granted, it's been a while since I've seen them.

I know who can play Snake Plissken...

I'm going to say it right now, this remake won't hold a candle to the amazing atmosphere and style the original invoked. Especially with the soundtrack.

I'm definitely interested. Rodriguez is dope. Not the best filmmaker by any means, but he can make stylistic movies and show his influences well.

Sin City also isn't all that good
It truly isn't.

I expect this to suck, just like his Battle Angel will (him directing it rather than Cameron was bad enough, the screenplay coming from the co-writer of Terminator Genisys is even worse), just like everything else he made after From Dusk till Dawn has.

Hunnam and Stevens are too fresh faced to be convincing as a hardened badass, but Bernthal would be pretty damn ideal.

I'm skeptical of this too because Rodriguez seems to be stuck in cheapo green screen mode for his last 3-4 films but what the fuck, I won't stand for y'all talking shit about the Mexico trilogy, Sin City, or Planet Terror.

Are you a Mexican, or a MexiCAN'T?

Shit I'm down. From Dusk till Dawn is one of my favorite movies (along with it being the best vampire movie ever) and Planet Terror is my favorite zombie movie.

I know as a filmmaker Rodriguez has been all over the map, but the Mexico Trilogy is solid, Sin City is great, and The Faculty is an underrated gem.

I doubt this will turn out any good. I can't think of anything since From Dusk Till Dawn from Rodriguez that I really liked.

Planet Terror, the Mexico trilogy, From Dusk Till Dawn, and The Faculty are all great, in addition to Sin City being good.
I even like A Dame to Kill For.

I know Rodriguez has a ton of respect for Carpenter. He constantly plays Carpenter's movies on his network, and if I remember correctly even conducted a great interview with the man a couple of years back. I don't think this is a good idea though. At least in the sense of recasting an iconic role such as Snake. However, I guess if a was held to my head and I was made to choose a director for an EFNY remake I could do much worse than Rodriguez. He's got a better chance of providing that EFNY feel than the random studio hire does.

We'll see how Battle Angel comes out before I allow myself to get any sort of hype for this. It's been a while since Rodriguez has hit a home run for me (liked Planet Terror and Machete was worth a viewing I guess).

Trivia: Robert Rodriguez is responsible for my username since I was a huge El Mariachi fan during my teens.

Not sure about this, love the original and LA.

Why can't they do a sort of sequel like Blade Runner is doing?

The original film was probably my first cinematic experience back in 1982 ('83?) ( i was 12/13 yo) where i went to see it with my cousin in an open roof cinema.

I still love this movie and was not satisfied by the sequel. I am certain that Rodriguez will do wonders though.

Yeah, he was on Rodriguez's The Director's Chair.
