It's not like ME's narrative is Oscar worthy or anything. I talked to Ashley once in the entire game and she wants to bone me before the last level. :lol

Well no, but the quality of writing (for a game, and yes it pains me to use that qualifier) is superb, and that continues right in to the second and, at some points, beats it hands down. Bioware are really good at characters, and getting better at games (or dumbing them down if you want to take it that way) but ME2 does drop the relatively strong story of the first in favour of a more structured and predictable experience. Hopefully 3 will marry both together.

Also Ashley is a racist whore >:(

Should I play The Witcher or Dragon Age next?
I absolutely hated Dragon Age. I tried it on PS3 and PC and didn't like it either time. I'm probably the only person with that opinion though. I still have the PC Collector's Edition if you want it. I have no idea how it works giving someone used PC games though.

I tried the Witcher but it ran like shit on the laptop I had at the time. I almost bought it again last week but I have too much shit to play right now.

I actually have a 10 hour save in The Witcher when I attempted to play it on my shittacular old PC, but I have forgotten most of the story and Act I was pretty boring. Maybe I'll read a Wiki summary so I don't have to replay that crap.

Also, Dragon Age's gameplay is pretty fucking awesome, but mages seem OP.

I grabbed a copy off Goozex. It even had the Stone Prisoner DLC unredeemed so it was like getting a brand new game for $1!

I have still never got around to trying Goozex. Is it pretty cool? I have 100s of games I'll never touch again.

I wish they had shit like that for dvds. I want to get rid of my entire collection minus a couple Troma flicks and tv series.

Since I don't want to work, here's my wishlist with absolutely no forethought:

Normal game:
- Way less behind-the-scenes loading between songs and let us pause at any time
- Countdown timer after resuming
- Star and score overhaul. I at least want to know how much better or worse I played compared to the high score.
- Second layer of sorting. Along the lines of Genre -> Band

Single player:
- Uncheck certain dlc from showing up in world tour
- Challenges that actually have challenges other than passing the song

Local multiplayer:
- Steal Party Play from GH5 but make the instruments turn off after 5-10 seconds instead of two minutes
- Let my gamertag switch instruments without exiting to the main menu
- Global/drop down menu style song list. For example, just show a screen with all the band names. When you pick a band, you get a list of their songs. Anything so I don't have to sit there for 10 minutes while noobs scroll up and down through 500 songs every goddamn time it's their turn to pick.

Online multiplayer:
- Instrument switching
- Robust and different career mode
- Make my highway bigger and the others smaller.
- Friend only game join even if they have to wait for the next song
- Completely optional ability to hear the singer if both parties agree and ping < X amount.

Instruments:
- Add cymbals to the drums
- When I set mic volume to zero, I don't want to hear my voice through the speakers

I passionately agree with these.

It's good for older games. If you don't get on new releases the minute they become available, you will be waiting for months.

Also Goozex lets you trade DVDs too.

Hot damn, I'll check it out. Apparently I signed up in 2008 but I never used it.

"It is also important to note that this patent was filed 6/16/08, and issued on 12/1/09, so these very well may be features that never made it into the final Rock Band 2 product."

Way to post old patents. I heard Nintendo patented a few new features. WiiHD coming?!

Case in point: I just put RDR on my request list.

I might get it by October.
Ah that sucks. How does mailing work? It says you can print out a mailing label but I don't see how you ever pay for the shipping.

You can either buy a prepaid label from the site or take it to the post office.

I was looking at the GD: RB fact sheet and it mentioned it allowed system link 2-6 players. Did RB1/2 even have system link support? I'm starting to suspect that RB3 will allow 5+ instruments for local multiplayer via system link option only. For a real full band, the only options to play are online or system link, just like any other multiplayer game containing more than 4 people (not counting microphones).

I'm worried whether my existing RB2 drum set with cymbals will be rendered obsolete if they have a new iteration with additional pads and pedals.

WTF can you even do with six people in a Green Day game? Are you sure they just weren't counting harmony mics as separate "players"?

As for the obsolete drums thing... That's just something you have get used to in this hobby, especially in the plastic instrument genre. Of course the RB2 set will work, but they'll nerf any of the new additions.

Madcatz should do like the SF4 sticks and enlist a helper company for parts / research.

Casio for help with the keyboard would be epic for keeping the cost low and quality decent.

Well there's already the Ion drum set and the "real" Fender guitar.

I kind of wish I bought that guitar now when it was 60% off at amazon a couple months ago.

Edit: By the way, I only watched the first 5-10 minutes of Glee so far but I can't believe they snagged that crazy Twilight youtube girl to be in the show. I didn't know if I should laugh or hide.

If even half of that stuff makes it into the final game, it becomes easy to see why they needed an extra year for it.

Somebody post the hypetrain gif!

Theoretically speaking, Dave, what would your defense be if RB3 has open strums for guitar and a rhythm guitar part and GH6 (as we already know) doesn't?

"Neversoft did it first"

I object to the idea I need to defend GH. It's not like I want RB3 to be worse than WoR. Just because both RB1 and RB2 had some silly little flaws that stopped me enjoying them as much as I could have doesn't mean I'm not going in to RB3 hoping it can be awesome.

Probably something about innovation.

2/10. Stupid Bemani fans use that all of the time and look where that's gotten them.

No offense to you, Nisa, but you probably already know that your brethern aren't typically the brightest bulbs in the drawer.

Re-reading that list and there are some fucking awesome features there. The different gem representation, four pedal drum kit, and the option to record a performance for later use by your friends, are all fucking awesome. New drum kit kinda confirmed with all the new features, but the guitar seems to be the same (based on no added features like a slider, etc. which means I won't have to get another guitar).

It seems like HMX's comment of moving in a more realistic direction are actually going to happen. I just hope the game doesn't get too complicated. Also, how would the new gem representation work for older DLC, disc songs? I am sensing a quasi-splitting of the market.

I hope you are forced to rebuy the songs.
so I can justify jumping to the PS3 side

Me specifically, or are you using "you" as a plural, which it seems like based upon the spoiler? If it is the former, that isn't very nice.

All this news is making me a wee bit nervous about RB3.

That one. PS3 :drool

The market has to splinter eventually, I could see some of the RB1 DLC not ever being compatable with new features. I really wouldn't have that huge of a problem with it TBH, because if they are actually changing a substantial amount of the gameplay I'm not going to expect them to redo all of the DLC to suit the new features too. I'm sure a lot of the DLC from the past few months has some new functionality rolled into it too though (I hope).

I don't think they can go much higher than 10 dollars, the only other way would be to do bundles like: 200 songs for 10 dollars, 500 songs for 20 dollars, and for 30, unlimited songs.

People continue to extract the Wii DLC, and unless it's hidden (more so than Harmonies were, which people found in the Green Day DLC) the songs released to date don't have any hidden playable tracks. But I find it believable that when RB3 comes out, you'll download a patch (like in GH5) that updates some, if not all, of your previous DLC. They've probably been planning this for awhile, so not putting the tracks in the files themselves doesn't mean the track work hasn't been done...

I'd imagine that such a patch would target the big songs they have available, i.e. The Who, Queen, Iron Maiden, Don't Stop Believing and the like. I can't imagine they'd go out of their way to support the likes of Hautewerk with such features.

In any case, I can't imagine a scenario where they'd simply not be able to play in RB3 at all; they'd just be locked to a "legacy mode" of sorts.

In my mind, they've been planning this since a certain date, and since then they've been adding the features to the songs but not including them in the DLC files (to prevent leaks). Then they'll just push them all to you when you play RB3. Maybe not all DLC will have it, but I bet anything in the last year was made with the expectation of what RB3 would be.

It's a strange position to be in, to say the least. They cannot eliminate hundreds of songs for play within RB3, it would just piss off too many people, especially when they talk about "platform" and the fact that RB 2 is exportable to RB3; but they need to innovate enough to keep the game from being RB 2.5. They also cannot have a situation where the RB store splits into RB/2 and RB3 song downloads. There would come a point where producing tracks for both stores would be more work than it's worth. I don't envy HMX management; they have to walk such a fine line. Look at how pissed off people were when they found out The Beatles stuff is locked to disc.

"Legacy Mode" makes the most sense.

EDIT: WTF is "Pro" mode?

All currently available songs will be playable in RB3. There's absolutely no question about that. Whether they have additional new features or not remains to be seen. As for post-RB3 DLC being compatible with RB1/2, I'm sure it will as well, although the new features obviously won't be playable in the older games.
