I was waiting for a picture like that to dash all my hopes of Pro Mode actually being fun and/or worthwhile.

It looks pretty daunting, but that's actually fairly easy on the guitar, depending on tempo of course.

I wonder if they'll at least let you still sing? I'd hate to have to back out of a setlist because someone chose an old dlc song that doesn't have harmonies.

They already figured this out in TB:RB, so there won't be a problem at all.

Gamespot video also confirms they're applying those new guitar tweaks to drums as well, so Young Man Blues might be FC'able now!

Don't know if anyone here has wondered this, but as a person who plays tons of games and hangs around people who do the same it happens that we all buy our own Rock Band's and each have consoles. I like playing the game with my roommate, but we have the issue of the whole one save and one band thing. Now I don't see a way to fix that issue, but what about individual characters? Anyone think Harmonix will seperate out the band member saves from the entire Rock Band 3 save? I want to be able to move my guy around on whichever xbox I go to. I could then just carry DLC and character (and hopefully high scores) wherever I go

That's not the real-tar though is it? I haven't read any of the articles yet.
Naw, that's the half-tar.

Here's realtar...

Have they given a price range for the pro guitar? I want more information about that.

As it is, I'm thinking $130 for the game and keyboard is maybe a bit much, but who knows, there could always be good deals.

:lol I'm sure 300 people are going to love this mode.

and suddenly I'm reminded of the first time I saw Bark at the Moon, or Visions on drums. and both are easily 5* able now.

that's totally doable. challenge get. and you cannot be expected to sight read this stuff. it's GOING to take practice. don't be silly.

almost every rock band legacy song has cymbal charting. that is insane. It sucks that RBN is assed out. I'm tempted NOT to buy any RBN songs now. :(
If they take a song down and update it, and you bought it before, can you download the new version? I know you can do it with official HMX DLC. It's why a few of my DLC songs don't work after doing license transfers.

Though the whole idea for Rock Band since its original release has been that it's more of a platform unto itself than a series of individual games, the additions in Rock Band 3 appear to be totally worthy of an all-new piece of software. It'll also be compatible with all of your existing exported or downloaded Rock Band tracks, though older tracks won't suddenly receive vocal harmonies, keyboards, or pro guitar parts. Also, it's worth noting that due to changes in the file formats Harmonix is using for downloadable content, song packs released after RB3's release won't work in Rock Band 2, effectively putting an end to continued support for the first two games in the series.
Oh wow.

Gerstmann seems to be confirming that RB3 DLC won't work with RB1/2. Sad, but perhaps not all that surprising.

It's very, very surprising. I guess it makes sense in the way that the audio files will be chopped up in such a way that they may not make sense in RB2, but they should just release two versions of the song, one for Rb3 and one for RB1+2. Not cos I really care all that much personally, but they're just throwing money away.

having to hit dumbass impossible drum rolls and alt strumming something that the fucking guitar can't even pick up has always been one of the stupidest things about music games. I'm not saying make every alt strum or drum roll section a line but if it's shit that 99% of people can't hit then come on.

I think at this point, it's all or nothing with RB3. I've never seen any developer go completely crazy like this before.

I still think the band leader is the best addition. I have gone into drunk rage modes at idiots continually smacking the drums when I'm trying to pick a song for them.

After watching the gamespot vids, I'm excited about pro mode again. It's just going to be really weird not being able to sight read anymore. I guess I'm going to have to learn chord names too. I know all the main letter ones but my brain doesn't specifically know what all the minors and #5's are.

ok, what is actually happening in that gif?

I mean, what are you strumming and pressing. Do those numbers refer to a certain button?
Which string to pick and which fret number to hold down I would assume.

I think I'll probably pick up the Halftar at some point. It's a reasonable price, and I'm happy to try it out and see if I can learn some skills.

I'm very disappointed that they're apparently not doing Pro Bass (according to Archie in the chat). Very, very, very disappointed.

I think pro mode was made for autistic people.
That's exactly how you would learn how to play a song on real guitar. It's just usually you can learn at your own pace, not in real time while the song is kicking your ass. :lol

And I really want to see a walkthrough of the quckplay menu, because right now it's a huge step back from Beatles in terms of appealing to my e-peen.

It being a demo, I can't imagine they'd have any reason to show the quickplay leaderboards. They've already confirmed them for the game, so you've got nothing to worry about.

Also, the tabs aren't coming at you head on. That really has to make it tricky, with the orientation and all.

I'm 95% leaning towards realtar now. However, the pessimist in me can almost guarantee the fuckers will break after a couple weeks.

It's also going to be uber-annoying on songs that aren't played in standard E because you will be able to hear the noise coming from the guitar conflicting with the actual song. I'm not going to retune the guitar mid-setlist.

They really have no reason to do a pro bass mode. Most of the songs they pick for bass are the same 3 notes strummed through the whole song.

BigBlackGamer said:
you think RBN authors will go back and re-chart for pro modes? that would be awesome if they did. I doubt it though. :(
I have a feeling that the only reason they can do legacy for drums is due to the animations matching what is actually played. If the drum animations in the RBN stuff is actually fine, then I'm 99% certain that it will work in Pro mode just fine.

I forgot all about that. :lol

It's not just a case of me wanting them in the game, I want them implemented exactly like Beatles, that is, if I scroll through songs, I see the leaderboard as soon as I hover on a track. It's not the end of the world if I have to press a couple of buttons to see it, but it's a step back for me.

All this stuff sounds negative, but it's just easier to nitpick. Game looks awesome obviously (before Archie comes in here still PMS'ing if you say anything negative).

It's going to look different, no doubt, but it's going to function the same way. I'm guessing they went down this route to finally eliminate the issues they've had with all of the dead space that's permeated their quickplay UIs since the first game.
