Wait, did they confirm that? I missed that.

It's in one of the articles, but if you watch the first video on gamespots page when the keyboard is selecting it's part, it gave the option of "Keys", "Pro Keys", "Guitar", and "Bass"

AH, sweet. So theoretically we could have two guitar tracks going if there is no keyboard track? Thought they would do that, but glad to see confirmation.

Expert leaderboards will have 1000% more people on them :D
thats the idea behind this.

I see people (a very minor group) on youtube FCing all Rust in Peace, Caprici di Diablo...insane things like that. What else they have to do in Rock Band? I would love to play like that but I understand that it would be boring to have challenging DLC every 2 or 3 months...

This minor group now can focus on PRO mode when they have nothing more to FC or just want to experiment something more complex.

Damn, despite not being a drum freak that FCs everything, I feel that I have done everything in Rock Band 2...I boot on the game and I wonder what to do...(finally, after almost 2 years Im feeling that)

guess what...after my first 1000 hours with Rock Band 3, and IF I feel it starts getting stale...I have PRO Mode to try HUNDREDS of songs with 3 Cymbals!

Do you have any idea of HOW AWESOME this will be...at least for me?

Dont try to minimize it. It just is not possible. Im absolutely freaked out with all this info.

And no...RB3 will not sell millions...I think it will do just fine, I dont think PRO mode will make that of a difference with people...I look it as a BIG expansion of a game we already love.

and yes...Im absolutely interested in mastering this wonderful keyboard.

The only DLC we've seen having harmonies in it is the Green Day stuff from last year or so. For whatever reason, nothing else has been documented having them. Now, it could be because the data is hidden in some way, or it could just be that Harmonix didn't do it for some weird reason.

When Rock Band 2 first came out I tried out a little trick I found where I turned on no fail then put every single instrument in and turned down everything else except vocals. What that allowed me to do was hear JUST the vocal parts of songs. Songs like "That's What You Get" and "Rebel Girl" were interesting to me as only the lead singer was heard. All the other instruments other then Drum/guitar/bass were embedded into the background track that I muted in the sound options along with some background singers.

My theory is that at some point they have transitioned into mapping the vocals onto the main track and that they will be ready for the new note chart that RB3 will have ready for it on the disc. Green Day songs probably had to have them flagged due to the engine they knew GDRB was going to use. I guess all this typing is pointless as I should just try a new DLC song to see if I am right :lol God I'm dumb.

That's certainly a possibility. Though the question is; if Harmonix will say there's Pro Drums for old DLC, why not say there's harmonies?

Sidenote: omfg keyboards!!!

Im so happy that now they are handling rolls like GH...that is the correct way to do it.

Now it is possible to have "El Dorado" in Rock Band.

Yep, I'm hopping on the keyboard train. All I needed to know was that I could use a real one and not be forced to pay $100 for a fisher price-esque keyboard.

Vocal parts with harmonies are all the same track (at least in TB:RB), they aren't separated out into 2 or 3 tracks. So that's no real way to tell if anything has been pre-prepped.

When it comes to what is actually in the current MIDIs of DLC, as of last week...

Songs with harmonies:
allyouneedislove, because, beingformrkite, christiansinferno, fixingahole, girl, goldencarrytheend, inmylife, lastoftheamerican, lovelyrita, maxwells, michelle, norwegianwood, nowhereman, ohdarling, polythenebathroom, runforyourlife, sgtpepperreprise, shesleavinghome, sunkingmeanmr, theword, thinkforyourself, vivalagloria, wait, whatgoeson, whenim64, younevergive, youwontseeme

AFAIK that's the 3 Green Days and Beatles DLC.

Since you’re now officially acknowledging additional cymbals, will RB3 support the Guitar Hero kits with the two cymbals?

DS: We do support the Guitar Hero kits, but not in Rock Band Pro; there are too many fundamental differences in terms of their pad layout and cymbal layout for us to be able to map the Pro stuff onto their kit. But we have full support for their kit in standard gameplay.

I can accept this. I'd really like it if they can open up the orange pad to be used for something though, even if I just choose to have it replicate another pad.

I kinda want a RB drum kit now, but I don't have room for all this shit :(

On the Wii the orange is either another blue or another green (can't remember offhand). Superior console, etc. etc...

SUCK IT, BBG. SUCK IT DOWN.

It's a lame feature that nobody ever uses. I had 3 friends over who are all expert guitar players and everytime they play GH they always go guitar, bass, drums.

It's the lamest shit ever to have the same instruments playing.

nah bro, getting put on bass is like an insult. Plus that shit is boring as hell.

and now when we play on PS3 one of the drummers doesn't have to pretend they like playing another instrument.

It's not. It's the greatest shit. And Harmonix have my back.

CSB, have you seen any footage showing how the quickplay menu displays stars?

Holy fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck @ all this information.

God, all those articles of info. are sounding SO good. It's so hard not to get fucking hyped. Sucks that the platform aspect of it is going to be broken, but you might as well get the best version of the game that will support all the old stuff. Also, it's awesome that you can play guitar/bass on the keyboard when there's going to be tracks that don't have keyboard in it. Pro mode looks pretty sweet and I really like the guitar too. The price seems fair for the keyboard so I'll probably buy the bundle since it'll be cheaper that way.

Also, nice pics for GM Bull, storyteller, and Baker. :D

when is it cool to post pics for the new collage!?

Another question: You will be able to play keyboard parts if you own a guitar? Did I read that correctly? If so, AMAZING.

I tested several songs and found that the Queen songs I tried appear to have the vocals / harmonies on the main tracks (volume of vocals turned up with background instruments turned down). I went through several old songs and found that many of them were missing background singers entirely (Until I turned up the background instruments in options).

Dissapointingly, I came to Simon and Garfunkal and found that they seperated them out on the main vocal and background instruments. At that point I kinda gave up with my test as there is no way in hell they would miss out on vocal harmonizing them and have songs from months before supporting it. Failed test :(

I was really hoping I was right.

:lol I'm sure 300 people are going to love this mode.

301 :p

What I want to know is whether we can use MIDI bass or guitars? The break-out box only mentions keyboard and drums.

It looks like a concoction of a bass and a slide guitar gone horribly wrong.

It's a Chapman Stick. One of the most beautiful stringed instruments available imo - certainly of any modern creation. There are tons of vids online.

The shit you can do on it is amazing. I'm planning to get one some day.

I love that people are looking at that gif and writing off pro-mode as being totally niche because of how impossible it looks. It's not like you select Pro and it instantly throws a shredding solo at you and then laughs in your face when you fail and procede to piss all over your dreams.

I'd like someone to make a gif of pro mode "I Love Rock and Roll", please.

I've been thinking about it and pro drum mode is kinda shitty because its exactly how I've been playing the game for over a year and a half. On the plus side ill crush everyones scores out the gate because I get at least 98 percent on everything with solos(obviously there are some exceptions, but that's not due to cymbal usage) I guess that's why I was hoping to get a hihat controller so badly.

On the upside, don't have to buy new hardware! I've had my cymbals sine the day they were released and they are near flawless most of the time, batteries do effect their sensitivity though.

So I'm def buying one of the pro guitars and either the keytar set or a fullsize and the midi controller pending info.

Yeah that gif looks pretty simple imo its all on the same string, its the same thing you dudes do with a normal gh guitar, its not like its a fucking sweeping arpeggio or anything.

All this new info is just amazing, ill prolly nab a halftar and experiment with pro mode :D Ive always wanted to learn guitar and maybe this will help me get into it more.

Midi adaptor + td3-kw set = ants in the pants.

I might have to buy another 360 and a small lcd set to expand my drum room.
This would be awesome for having a little break from regular drum training.

It just occurred to me that the timing of these RB3 announcements was a major dick move.
"You know that Green Day game that just came out yesterday? Those tracks are already obsolete, lawlz. Thanks for the $60-70. Love, HMX."
What's really funny is that they're shit for long-time players on plastic guitar, but they would have made great Pro guitar starter tracks.

Can't be arsed reading through this thread. So I have a question for those who have;

Any pictures of the new drumkit?

Will the Ion work with ALL the new features, cuz if so I am buying one of those motherfuckers on payday.

For the love of everything sacred, let my ions work in pro mode!!

So, are they re-releasing the cymbals for RB3? You can't get them anymore in Europe (or at least most German and UK stores I looked). Europe's fucked again probably :(

But I thought playing guitar solos on a real guitar was easy, just like playing one on a plastic guitar with 5 buttons.

I wonder if you could just play these pro songs in practice mode on auto play and use the numbered notes for use on a proper guitar.

burnfout said:

I don't see why it would not work, just need to buy an extra cymbal, been wanting to do that for a long time but now I can justify it.

RB2 already recognize the 7 inputs of the Ion separated as toms and cymbal in freestyle so... I really would not understand why it would not work.

Older songs that had keyboards -- Freezepop's "Brain Power," for example -- are those being revamped for the keyboard?

We're sort of thinking through the legacy songs now in terms of how we support them in Rock Band 3. We know that all DLC and most of the disc songs will be able to be imported into the RB3 library. But in terms of how we augment tracks for Pro and also for keyboards, expect information forthcoming about that stuff. It's complicated.

I do have a couple concerns about pro mode on guitar.

Tuning - kinda going into what Baker said, how are they going to handle alternate tunings such as drop d or drop c where chords are barred instead of fretted as standard power chords? It will sound horrible on the realtar.

Also, for solos and complex guitar parts it's VERY difficult to not look at your guitar at all. While Pro mode will surely be a great tool to help you learn to feel the fretboard better, how the hell are you going to follow fast solos and not look at the guitar?

True. Even pros (Petrucci for an example) look at their guitars when playing, the same thing for Keyboard solos.
