Even though it's visually similar, a RB gold star is so much better (in a gameplay way) than a GH one. So it's all fine.

Agreed ... They don't come around to often for me so when I get one I get excited. Even my kids like it. :lol

Cross posting this cause I can.

I was really wanting to learn guitar and piano, but didn't think normal means of learning those instruments would work for me. But maybe RB3's pro mode is what I was looking for. As for Pro mode drums, I'm always wanting to hit where a cymbal would be, just from my small amount of time spent on real kits.

I haven't had the time to discuss the Pro mode stuff with Bebedora. I'm not sure what she'll think. But she did just by a full sized keyboard a few weeks ago. I'm thinking it'd be too big to play with in RB3.

If it has MIDI out it should work, but you'll need the MIDI box.

Agree, i hate the way GH does it.....Having it score based is so much better. Ive got gold stars even with a 98%, if i miss one note in GH its "sorry you suck no GS for you"

and :lol :lol at that crash cymbal so high up

TheGreatDave said:
You'd assume so. It's dumb.

In an ideal world, there would be six stars, which turn gold if you get an FC.
If gold just meant FC, you could have three gold stars, lol.

Is there any chance I'll be able to use my own MIDI to USB converter I already have, instead of shelling out $40 for the official one?

EDIT: for PS3

Maybe on the PS3 or Wii, but almost sure that it won't work on 360.

yeah, it would be for the PS3 for me.

I guess it all depends on if the drivers are compatible. I sure hope so, as I'd be much more likely to buy RB3 if I didn't have to buy anything extra. I just want to use the keyboard and MIDI-to-USB adapter I already have.

Probably not, seeing as you'll need the d-pad and buttons to be able to navigate in the game.

That and it doesn't specifically say MIDI to USB (At least on sites I can read at work), it could be MIDI to Wireless (Which I would prefer).

well you don't have to use the d-pad and buttons to navigate with the guitar or drums right now, so I don't think that would be an issue to navigate with the keyboard keys.

But GM Bullfrog has a good point that it might be something other than MIDI to USB.

I want to see them show the chart differences that happen in pro mode when you have a real
-tar vs having a half-tar connected.

Also, I can't see other midi breakout boxes being used. The box isn't just a midi to USB converter, it also houses the system-specific controls. Basically the things that prevent someone from using their own midi keyboard or guitar.

Because of the 17 fret vs. 22 (or however many their realtar has) thing? I'd imagine it would be like the keyboard thing, where they show you the chart shifting along the neck.

Ok, logged off of work ... It's USB.

• Rock Band 3 MIDI PRO-Adapter – Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3 / Wii

Designed for use exclusively with Rock Band 3, the MIDI PRO-Adapter allows musicians to use their real MIDI keyboards or MIDI drum sets to play Rock Band 3. Plugging directly into the console via USB, the MIDI PRO-Adapter works as an interface between the console and MIDI instrument, converting the MIDI messages into console controller data which the game translates into on screen action. The MIDI PRO-Adapter features a velocity sensitive adjustment for MIDI drums designed to reduce cross-talk during play. A full D-Pad and standard gaming controller buttons are located on the PRO-Adapter to deliver seamless console integration and navigation of the game menus. Ships with a removable clip, allowing MIDI PRO-Adapter to be attached to a belt, or rest on a table top or similar flat surface.

MSRP: $39.99

Don't think there will be any shifting ... You still have 6 "strings" on the half tar (The width of the highway), just not all of the frets.

I believe AMUSIX's point was it forces you to buy a $40 piece of hardware from them instead of using whatever you already have.

For those who are curious, the PS and Wii versions of the instruments are the exact same except for the Vendor and Product identifiers; you literally change the value of 8 bytes in the RB2 executable on the Wii and the PS instruments work flawlessly.

I meant shifting up and down, (in the background) as opposed to side to side on keyboard.
Like it might shift one and the 17th fret on the controller becomes the 18th fret (and the 16th on the controller would now be the 17th, and so on)

DLC that comes out after this announcement won't work with Pro guitar, either, though... Just sayin'. I really, really wish we weren't getting GnR now.

Ever tried seeing how long you could hold your hands up in the air? The strongest person in the world will tire eventually even if they're not holding anything.

I keep my ear to the ground around the people doing all the hacking on the Wii version (not pirating or cheating...actual hacking), and do a little bit of stuff myself...

You need a dpad for CAC/Band editing/Name input which I believe is forced in career mode or whatever. Also actually quitting the game.

They said in multiple interviews last night that the halftar would just be nerfed for the missing frets. Kind of like using an RB drum set in GH. It just moves frets 18-22 back over to 13-17 (or something along those lines).

it's a standard 14" crash, he only uses it for accents, it's not like its a crash ride that he plays 8th notes on.

Yeah I decided last night that I'm gonna buy the real-tar unless it's more than 300 dollars, I don't need anything to play pro drums so I'm only in for the keyboard really.

I realize that, but that's not what it seemed like Charron was saying.

Yea, I'm saying it's one he obviously does not use for ride, because if he did, he'd be sore after two measures.

Oh so you're just saying it looks funny, and it's not that ridiculous for playability?
Because of his technique it's pretty practical, if you notice he doesn't use a ride.

I think it would look less ridiculous if he had more than one crash, the shell and the hat.

sorry, what I meant was that there will be differences in the charts to account for the different number of frets. Essentially, instead of a trill played on the 18th and 19th frets of the b string, it gets transposed to the 13th and 14th fret of the e string.

I'm curious to see this done, and how they will handle those solos that wail on the highest frets of the e string.

What a shitty game that was. Completely reinforces all the negative aspects of the crap that is soccer.
France qualified to WC in controversial manners....they are not good at all, and Uruguay is usually a team with strong defense and temper. You could not expect much from this match...if either team scored a goal, it would be over.

I loved Mexico vs South Africa; those cocky mexicans dominated the match, then a BRUTAL counter attack by SA and GOAL! Then Mexico went nuts and attacked even with 4 people with nothing to lose...they eventually tied the game and went further for the victory that never came....

In the last minute SA in another counter attack hit the ball in the post!

That is the beauty about soccer...Mexico is by far the better team...but SA scored the goal and everything went crazy from that. It is not like other sports where usually the better team destroys the weaker one and you have hours of domination knowing from the 10th minute who will win.

Soccer is the best sport in the world, that is why the World Cup is enjoyed with so much passion in all the planet.

I didn't see the Mexico match. :( I did DVR it though so I'll watch it when I get home.

I was so close at beating Green Grass and High Tides again last night on expert guitar, but I failed at 96% of the song. :(

The Rock Band 3 boxart is ugly and I don't know how I feel about the new song selection screen. I still prefer the look of the RB 2 one.

It has less to do with needing the buttons and more to do with the fact that the console won't be able to determine that it's an HID without it. Since your keyboard doesn't have anything in it to tell the 360 that it's a keyboard controller, it will not function like one.

That make more sense?

Soccer is not the best sport in the world but that's just my opinion. I watched 2 games and both were so damn boring.....to each his own though, I'll still watch more games but so far it's been a bore.
